Thanks for the reply, genericaccoungt1967. It's so funny because I started undergrad in an engineering program and then flunked out of physics with applied calculus (a "weed out" course). I always regretted not working harder and becoming an engineer but then I saw that all my engineering pals couldn't find work or were getting laid off. I guess these things are cyclical and perhaps engineering is hot again. As for me, law school was absolutely the right choice (albeit 21 years ago).
Engineering sucks nuts. Try getting another job after being laid off after 50 and find out the door is locked and welded shut on you. An absolute scam and a fraud. Way too many engineers graduate every year and many will never have a satisfactory work experience in their lives. Engineering is a waste of time, money and effort for most.
@Cubatraveler Well said. I wish engineering graduates were outspoken about the engineering school scam the way that law school graduates seem to be. Alas, it seems that engineering is one of the last sacred cows of the education industry.
@smlevy42 -- It's possible that you never come across lawyers who are qualified to work as patent lawyers but who couldn't find jobs at law firms. Although patent law is a better job market than law in general, it, too, is glutted, at least for people with chemistry and biotech backgrounds. If you don't have a PhD and decent grades from a decent school, good luck getting an entry-level biotech or chemistry IP job.
@smlevy42: I know several people who are qualified to do patent prosecution but cannot find jobs. Joblessjane is correct - most of the people currently getting the good patent jobs went to top tier schools or have advanced degrees in a technology. Law school is a mistake no matter what you want to practice. Make the smart choice and get an undergraduate degree in engineering and go get a job and work your way up. You end up making more and have a better quality of life than most lawyers.
I like the dialogue; a nice play on some humor and even better were the references to the mothers brother's half cousin's niece's friend who... that was the best part.
Its awesome, being educated and having white trash friends.

Perhaps her sister's brother's cusin's drug dealer's mechanic's friend should have told her not to be such a low life.

Great vid! However, I've never known a poor patent lawyer. Now, a poor copyright or trademark lawyer, maybe....
