Listening to this makes me wonder what the heck happened to music nowadays... modern music usually is catchy and sounds nice, but some things--especially heavy metal songs--makes no sense...some things I have no idea why we even label them as "music"
brought new life to harpsichord music. Pianist Ross is een geniale harpsichord-user who plays with more joy, every time he touches a new part of this Sonata K13 G major. He belongs to the interpreters 'who stay home', and his language is simple. Scarlatti found what he was looking for:being in your best mood and giving the sounds to people who love both men. I am a Baroque-lover but cannot play without having heard parts of the 'Goldberg Variations'.
Whom who love shall not spread fears and sorrows to simple musician ! Mr Scarlatti, don't cry; don't cry on infortunate destiny of man and music splendour !
@cjr3559 There are still ways to create differences in touch and dynamic range on a harpsichord, though not as obvious as on a piano. But it does not totally lack either of those.
Less obvious perhaps, but I can appreciate these subtle differences just as much.
so true, words cannot add to reality, they can only take away.
they can arrange, catalog, organize and simplify reality into concise bits, but they can never hope to capture the complexity and drama of feelings and sensual experience. they are artifices, simulacrum, reality is forever just beyond their grasp.. and yet they are necessary, and beautiful in their own way. a madman once said: reality, images and sounds, were a poor imitation of thoughts, and words.
Soler is even closer sounding to the odd spanish variety Scarlatti brings to his bipartite sonatas.I find there are so many of these that are just fabulous music .these two g maj kirkpatrick 55 and13 i must learn !
all the connoisseurs have said that the best performer of D.Scalatti has been S.Ross. You can also think of R.Kirpattrick & some others. I have listened to Horowitz with Scalatti & he plays him with a romantic style, more suitable for Chopin, destroys the magic & sprit of this composer
First, excuse me for my bad english, but I´m writing from México.
I can see we like the same pieces, Scarlatti is one of my favorite composers among Handel and Bach; and of course I have too the collection of Scott Ross, now I´m joining the records on "Brilliant Classics" where the complete sonatas have been playing on harpsichord and fortepiano by Pieter-Jan Belder, you must listen that.
that dude sure was somethin !

Very nice, Domenico. But jeez, keeping track of your sonatas for keyboard is becoming a major headache for me. 555 of them.

I'm certainly no expert, but Domenico Cimarosa's sonatas are quite similar and as delightful. At least imho.

Wow. Great phrasing, timing. The placement of pauses is masterful. Great job, Mr. Ross! I'm sorry you're not with us anymore. RIP.
