  • Honest tooooo God, where is the Discovery Channel?!!!

I love that I watch this an none of my friends do. I aint tellin no one!!!

  • @Lean540 Mum is the good word...thankee.

  • my goal is to come and go on a trip with you guys one day if you let me.

  • epic scenery shug. great adventure.

  • @enjoythewildUSA Sure hated that trip to end! Appreciated.

  • @shugemery It still doesn't top last's years adventure to Linville with you and your brother singin' like a couple of song birds hopped up on Kentucky shine during a lightning storm. That was utterly awesome.

  • Pruny feets means alot of miles,,,,,,,,or a long time in water, either is fun, both are exhilirating. Lol.

  • It aint a campin trip without potted meat and beanie weenies, And the pruny feet,,,, gotta get the pruny feet at least once.

  • @JSD3530 I enjoy the pruny feets! Beanie Weinies were a gold mine find for sure.

  • I love your videos man!!!

  • @FALKORDOG Thanks feller...the Gorge is an easy place to be joyful.

  • Love that music... you sell that stuff? u da man shug....

  • @GeoXplorador I'll send you a link

  • In your video where are you camping ?

  • @amcstay Down the trail from the top of Hawksbill.....at a big bend. We just went into the woods back there as it was raining and lightning. Maybe halfway down if I recall.

  • Are there places to hang a hammock up there ?

  • @amcstay If you poke around there are a spot or two for maybe two hangers.

  • Wow looks like you had a blast.

  • @vmperkins I still re-live that trip n my dreams.

  • What is a beef tripe? And what does it look like? What is the bag limit on the beef tripe?

  • @kyletango I gut. A crumpled wet hat. As many as you can tote.

  • 5 hot dogs? Enter him into a contest.

  • @kyletango He is a for sure 4th place....

  • I'm way down here, in Tejas ...

First, I wuz considerin' a Hennessy ... "Pizza" talked me outa that.

    Then, I wuz thinkin' about gettin' a Balckbird+Superfly ... better, but 'spen-SIVE ! ...

Now, I'm thinkin' on gettin' a "Mosquito" (brand) hammock (made by Asian child-slaves ?) ... All cammo and tacticool ... much cheaper than the "Big Bird".

But, down here ... in the desert and on the beach, would have to go to ground purdy often. ... Right now ? GI-Bivy + SnugPak Jungle Bag + Pad + poncho

  • @phrankus2009 It is a whole different deal down your way....do what works the best. Carry on Sir.

  • @shugemery Heard DAT ... ' still am thinkin hard about a "bivy" hammock, even if I end up on the ground, half the time ...

... Main reasons are wetlands (coastal swamps/marshes) and "Fahr-Ants" (scourge of The South). I, also, just turned 52yo and both my knees hurt all the time but I don't use a brace, yet, because both knees are equally weak, when climbing or sitting-down/standing-up. Any-hoo, I have not begun to research trekking poles but need max hight exttension (not shiney).

  • hey shug, its kerry in texas. man what purdy country ! do you have or ever take a skeeter net with ya on these hikes ? and whats the best trail food to pack ?

  • @cowboysaver1971 In May it is not buggy at night so I leave it home.

I just eat freeze dried meals for the most part....nothing fancy.

  • Thanks Shug,Hickory and the guys from Hammockforums.thanks for sharing!!!

    MikeSr39

  • @MikeSr39 Our pleasure...

  • I just watched all five parts of these Gorge Videos again for the eleven-hundreth time. They never get old. Hope I run into ya at the Gorge Rat Spring trip. I'll be getting in a little later than most.

    Cheers,

    Jeremy (Carolinasbackpacker)

  • @TigerRagFishingTeam I had such a fine time on that trip....I still think about it.

    Thanks for all that.

  • @shugemery

I need to hook up with y'all for a trip next time you are in my neck of the woods (NC). Might have to change systems though, the hammock looks interesting. Not as young as I used to be (42) and looks like that could be what the Dr. ordered. Need to learn more about it. Hammock forums the best place to learn? Thanks for the reply.

  • Your music sounds great Shug. I know I said that to ya before...but great bluegrass intro! Great brothers cover at the end too

  • @dogsisivle I never have but heard terrific things about it. Now I wanna go!

  • @shugemery It's our favorite place to mountain bike but the hiking and camping is amazing too. Not very popular either so you end up having the whole place to yourself. I'll PM you some pics.

  • Been there. I figured you must live around here (W. NC) (Sw VA) (E. TN) The Grand Canyon of the East, Beautiful. I too am a picker. Yall sound good.

  • @ConquerTheWild Grew up in Charlotte .... now live in Minnesota.

    Thankee.....

  • @chitlinray That is me ........ my buds doing harmony.

  • @shugemery that is you in the musical background?

  • @chitlinray Yep .... me and my friends just jamming .... we love the bluegrass....

  • Shug, you rock. Like that Whippin' Post. Sometime, wold love to hear One Way Out (Allman Bros, too) by your band. "Well there's...one way out, man. Lord, I just gotta get out that door...."

  • @coolkayaker1

Thankee .... fun to pick. We aren't a band though .... just friends pickin' and jammin'.

We love eating bad crap in the woods .... eat healthy at home.

  • wow beautiful - i think this is living... hammocks, tarps, traveling light, eating all kinds of weird meat with friends above the clouds

  • @mojokiss

It is SOOOO living. !!!!! As I get older ... I just want to live more and feel life.

    Thanks for noticing.

  • Potted meat...Man's food!...right up there with Sardines in mustard sauce. Funny how it's hard to get acclimated to city noise after a few days in the wilderness.

  • @clockguy2 And anchovies with capers! Yeah .... civilization is tough ....'cept for pizza!

  • shut..I gotta give you props for eatting that potted meat..isn't that the US answer to a Scot's Haggis? After Desert Storm, I swore off Spam and Vienna Sausage for the rest of my life. :)

  • @bonsaihiker

Mine too .... now I want a 16 day trip! It was easy to film ... just natural.

  • I gotta ask you cause I do this a lot too, how do you keep your boots dry-ish? Gaiters and rain pants? 5 days in wet boots and my feet looked like 5 miles of bad road. Just curious cause I feel I am reinventing the wheel.

  • @keinehausfrau

Man .... my boots were squishy soaked. I don't think there is such a thing as waterproof boots if your hiking in rain for days.........

    Thankee

  • @shugemery You guys pick up any toenail fungus from wet boots?

  • It looks like it was a great trip. I really enjoyed this series of videos.

  • @TN3045 Well ... we are just friends picking in my shed.... so we don't have a CD.

    Thanks though

  • Gratz Shug...may you have many more adventures bushwacking as good as this one. Thanks for taking us along.

  • @cajuncyclr IO hope to ... I really do!

I et Spotted Meat as a youngster. I think now I'd sub Underwood Deviled Ham!

Stomcrow is young enough to hack it though.

I liked Hickery's Krispy Kreme hat too, or is that a Kelly Kettle hat?

Like you, I've never been to the top of Hawksbill. Started once and a storm ran me off. Gonna try again.

Loved the whole shebang! Thanks again.

    Ken

  • @nohill4climber
