My grandfather went down on the Montevideo is a reference to PeterGarrett's grandfather (a prisoner of war) being killed on the Montevideo Maru which was sunk by the USS Sturgeon during WW11. It was the biggest loss of Australian lives with over 1000 dead.

Martin's got the fastest flicking plectrum in the business. I'm surprised he doesn't drop his pics all the time. I don't know how he does it. Midnight Oil are a lot of things: charismatic Frankenstein singer, incredibly adventurous music theory, show stopping arrangements - but also 'precision'. And many remark on the staggering precision of this group. And that's Martin's bag. Has anyone else ever done this? Listen to his work on D&D. No one else can do that. And what a heartwarming clip!

Peter Garrett and Midnight Oil may be one of the most powerful and moving bands of our time. They are a true example of using music for the good of humanity and the world. Notice how they always have Aboriginal peoples in their video- they champion the cause of the weaker and oppressed in our societies and make them true equals!! Love Garrett like a brother man!! Wish they were still playing around the world but their message lives on!

Great vid, did you know this song is about Pete's mum and dad. Check out the scene where he's in front of the burnt down house (his mum was burnt to death in Sydney when Pete was a teenager), listen to the songs lyrics again, it'll make ya cry!!!
