I've been playing trial for a few days and I'm wondering if this tournament was all about "fitting". Because there is no actual action in Eve, no manual skills you could improve, you just click and wait and all depends on the fitting. I wish this game involved more (any) action but that would probably caused much more server load and 40k players on one server wouldn't be possible...

By "action" I mean everything that's in games described as "Action" games. Eve seems more about economy and strategy so tournaments in my view test how wealthy teams are.

Many new players are let down by apparent complexity of the game, which later turns out to be simply complex-looking interface design with (besides spreadsheet economy) nothing more than WoW-like MMO's. Well... anyway I wasn't even commenting on this before - I was just asking - what personal skills you develop by playing Eve PvP? What skills are tested in the Tournament? From what I see it only tests ship fitting.

@kid29a Yea. I totally see where you are coming from kid. For me, I personally enjoy the game because it requires strategy and planning. I can see how it would seem like fitting is the only part of the game that really impacts things, which is true... but I have found that lots of PVP doesn't require a good fitting, but being quick to think. Afterburner, orbit 500, afterburner, approach, afterburner, webify, ect. Like wow, lots it based on action - reaction fighting, if you will. Cheers.

Yeah I was exaggerating, most large alliances are built on massive fleet actions, I play the game a decent amount and have done since 2007 :). The only thing is I play fleet friendly 'realistic' roles such as a Rokh large rails and large ships, however the vast majority of small PvP fights are fought in tiny interceptors which don't deal a vastly smaller amount of damage than battleships considering the size difference and it's extremely silly when frigates scare of battleships

This game is 99% people flying in frigs at 2000m/s killing a battleship and 1% Haw-some fleet battles.

Seriously it's just plain stupid that tiny frigates can destroy battleships, there's needs to be some serious balancing of T2 Assaults/interceptors that fly like they are on crack.

@ScienceGaveMeAHadron Maybe not 99%, though there definitely needs to be some realism taking into account here - those types of rigs just don't have the weapons payload to take down Battleships or similar.

Though having said that, not all PVP is this entertainment only value tournament play that we see. They are plenty of serious tactical engagements, that last a lot longer than ten minutes.

@SadisticStang There needs to be some balancing factor put in that acts both ways, as you said the large ships cannot hit frigates so there should be something similar acting the other way, the difference in health isn't that great since you have no hope of damaging a frig with large guns. Frigates should deal a very small amount of damage to battleships. As you see in this vid the people who win are PL with large amounts of small frigate variants.

Notice how the destroyers, which are spposed to be designed to kill frigate sized ships, were totally impotent and useless in this fight. way to go CCP, a useless ship! :thumbsup:

you take control of one guy in the game, you can pilot any ship you want but it will take training... you only pilot a single ship in the alliance fights

you get one ship at a time (you can have as many as you want in your hangar) you start as one race but there's nothing to stop you from starting down another race's path at any given time, though you may have to train different (extra) support skills to not be terrible if you go with a second race.

You control a single ship and you can buy new ones. You can make a fleet with other players but you still only control your ship, the others control theirs. To get a ship from another race you would need to train the appropriate skills, which may or may not take a while. (A few days at most)

They had ECM to deal with the small ships that ran away. Catching them would have been a bonus. They hit all of their bombs on the big ships to soften them up enough to quickly drop them. Had they held back their bombs, the larger ships may have had time to spread out, and they would have all tanked better.

Co2 lasted a hell of a lot longer and responded better to the threat of the bombs than any other team PL went up against. they showed that they earned their spot in the finals match

Bombs are perfectly balanced...you need a lot to kill big ship so it's not a problem, and you need a noob in small ship to kill him with the bomb. So everything is like it should be.

PL didn't defeated us in this match because bombs are overpowered, or torps, or bombers as ships. They had killed our fleet cause they had lot of EWAR on those bombers, and that EWAR in combination with SB was perfect counter for our BS heavy fleet.

Combine this with 2x rooks and you will get situation where I couldn't lock anything for at least 2 minutes even I wasn't perma jammed by rooks at all.

As soon as I got first lock that rook gone down but unfortunately for my team fight was already lost and most of my mates were dead.

Sensor damps (resolution) + ECM = hard time for BS :)
