Comments here are very telling - is it the fate of our beautiful planet to be laid waste by empty greed, the nihilist pursuit of profit? The beauty of Handel's peaceful statement tells us that this demonic project must NOT be permitted to succeed.
I discovered this great componist in 1985. You did not so long ago...THAT is what classical music is about.it never cies and touches new souls centyries aafter it has been composed
You know - I listen to some hip hop, R& B, urban soul, and contemporary jazz and urban gospel....BUT THIS??? This is AWESOME AND AMAZING MUSIC!! I never ever segregate my ears...whatever sounds good and beautiful I'm all over it. Classical music has always been a fav. I listen to it in my car, and mp3 at times. This piece I stumbled upon, and it's just so amazing. Thank you for posting this!!! It's saved as a favorite of mine.
This piece actually works quite fine even when arranged for a more modern orchestra – the one thing I truly miss (except for the singer) is the harpsichord.
Beautiful - both the music and video. Thank you for posting this wonderful music played with images of the world's most beautiful scenery of the Lake District.
Isn't this magnificent music... just as is Handels entire Messiah... and of course.. look who hes honoring in his greatest masterpiece.. none other than the Lord our creator.... just a side note.. this is such a beautiful song.. yet it came from an opera thats a complete comedy... bet most of you didn't know that.
I thought I knew what good music was,until I became a fan of classical music this year.Other music I feel in the broad sense of the word is on a "sensual" level,but this,this elevates the heart and soul to other domains/realms that perhaps in a funny way of putting it,fills almost to the very ends of our most capacious minds,it would seem.I now think of the more popular genres as just "orchestrated noise," if you get my drift ?
@mrrex35 SO HAPPY classical music really is getting more and more attention :)) yess. you can take classical music to any level you want. when you're drowned in deep thoughts about life or mere daydreaming.. you can either take it really seriously to the next level, or just enjoy it. that's why it's very special and only special people can really grasp this genre :) welcome to the club!
@mrrex35 "fills almost to the very ends of our most capacious minds..." I definitely agree with you, and that's one of the greatest things about Classical music. The greatest possible thing, to me, is that with more listening with your ears and mind your "capacity" keeps increasing, and you begin to hear and see things that you've never noticed or felt before even with the same music. The boundaries keep expanding, and the joy keeps coming as you become more experienced with this music.
@TwelfthRoot2 I cannot understand why it has taken me this long to discover music that is actually an art form?
It really makes you wonder,ponder,contemplate things of beauty and life in its simplicity;alas,my only regret is that I have not found it sooner,that I may relate certain compositions with certain memories that are of the dearest sentiment.
i want to be sure that I am clear here. You said that Mother nature was cruel. I said mother nature was (is) nothing. If we are only animals evolved from slime, we are nothing. How biologists rank humans is of no importance or even relative to the discussion.
My belief is that we are in fact something. We are more than a memory to our progeny.
@hexcane Hmm. Except that Handel wrote all his stuff in England. Lyrics of Messiah were written in English not German. I think that Xerxes was written in Italian like most people of the time thought they should be.
when i was a baby my mom use to put this song on her stomach and i heard it and when i was five i never heard the song i started singing it and my mom smiled and she said how do you know that song and i said i heard it somewhere that proves beautiful songs can be heard from a baby and i love this song i want it played at my funiral and this music will be in heaven i love you dad your listening to this right now rip
Yes it is beautiful and the London SO has done it well, BUT as a composition written for piano/cello duet this is not faithful to the composer's intent. That said, it is really difficult to find pianists, cellists or violinists who can ACTUALLY play it to produce a great listening experience. I have on CD Wolf Harden on piano teamed with Takako Nishizaki on violin and it is magic, but nowhere to be found on YouTube. I'll try to find time and produce a video to upload with their recording.
Beethoven agreed - apparently he esteemed Handel above all other composers: 'He was the greatest of us all - I would kneel, head bowed, before his tomb. Go to him to learn how to create great effects, by such simple means'.
@PhysicalsimForever i love Ludvig van beethoven he was the best composer i knew and mosart was also one of the most popular classical composers in my head i love classical music it makes me relax and it makes me happy it just makes me feel good i love classical music nice video with the classical music and lovely pictures good job

These comments are all wonderful. It should be pointed out that while Bach`s music is more intellectual, which is not always true, Handel`s IQ has been estimated at 155 while Bach`s at 130 and Beethoven`s at 145. One of mil differences in the two baroque masters is that Handel is generally warmer, Bach more cerebral.
@shnimmuc Dude, what are you even talking about? Bach, Beethoven, IQ "estimated" at.......BY WHO??? IQ tests weren't even invented until the early 20th century.
@gjc82071 Dude, These IQ are estimates done not only on the art of the composers, but on their writings and non- musical endeavors. IQ estimates have been done on thousands of people long dead, such as American Presidents. The components of such findings are based on the above. They are done by psychologist, those specializing in the brain, and scientists. There are books about IQ out there. READ.
@shnimmuc I don't believe it. I have read about it & I disagree with what's basically a guess. Science is good @ determining many things but not dead people IQ's. The assumptions are completely unprovable & arbitrary. I don't see how from just listening to music a dead person wrote 200yrs ago, I don't see how you can ascertain their IQ from that. At least not in any way that would be considered reliable. Even if you could, which you can't, it has nothing to do with their musical ability.
@gjc82071 Your argument is not with me, argue with the people who wrote the lists. It is all approximate even with a modern IQ test. I do think there is some validity in looking over a persons work, whether dead or alive and determining a ball park figure as to whether or not that person was a bright, or very bright or super bright or dumb. You are entitled to your own belief. If you don`t like the this practice, fine.
@shnimmuc Part 1. Of course it's not with you. It ain't personal. I just disagree with the methods used to determine the IQ's of people who died, B4 the test was invented . The insufficient data makes it an approximation, of a guess. 1 example: You, like myself, have probably taken @ least 1 IQ test, of 1 type or another. I don't see how anything written by any of the great composers, can be compared to any of the questions/problems on the tests, (A is to B as 1 is to ?, etc). continued
@shnimmuc Part 2. I also disagree with the IQ of the great composers, having anything to do with their creativity, musical styles, etc. IQ has little to do with creativity. (it's a left vs right side of issue) Some autistic people have low IQ's, but are very "intelligent", & or creative, musically, artistically, or otherwise. Anyway, none of this is personal & I apologize if you took it as such. To me it's just an interesting topic to consider & comment on. Youtube is good for that. :o)
@shnimmuc this may well be true, but many people with IQ above 200 are not geniuses in any sense.
Thus, I am not sure what high IQ proves. It seems to me that it proves nothing. One can be the greatest creative genius in history and still not score very high on IQ tests. These tests are too simplistic to measure the complexity of the creative process and the human mind.
I speculate that God has not chosen to bless certain individuals with extraordinary talents. I believe that he has blessed us all alike. Handel discovered his talent and shared it with us all and glorified God. What are you doing to share your God given talents with us? What have I done ? I have done very little. Handel is an example for us all. Pray that God will help you in discovering your gift. Thank God for Handel and his God given talent.
I played this in a double reed ensemble about 2 years ago, on first bassoon. This is my favorite Handel piece ever. Yes, it even beats the Hallelujah chorus. Beautiful.
But, what i really meant was : Bach and Handel were both genius's in their individual right. In brief, Bach was the technical,Christian metaphysical master. Handel was a showman businessman who created thematic materpieces for his public. However we should never underestimate Handel . Handel's far reaching Intelligence and immaculate ability to perfect a scene or convey a feeling, was overshadowed by his public extravaganza's. Handel was every bit as bright as Bach, But, each had his approach.
I don't think we have to say only german orchestra can play it well, it's not true. . everybody can play Handel, everybody can fell this emotion. Everybody have to enjoy this
Absolutely beautiful! The music and the scenery. Some of the scenes remind me of the Pacific Northwest and some look like the Lake District of England. You have lovely taste and an exquisite sense of aesthetics. One of my favorite works by Handel.
@divofan My condolences to you. Your saying this tells me the importance of the peoples, specially my dad and mom. Recently (1/5/11), I have lost my best friend suddenly.
it is cruel of mother nature to give us the gift of life and to doom every one of us to have it taken back away. we are given life so that we may do our part in the circle that is the reason for life itself. death is part of this circle and therefore, without death there can be no life. so always bear in mind, whatever your mother may have passed away from, she did not die in vain - she died for all of us, just as she lived for all of us too :)
What?? Given your view his mum lived and died in vain. Not for you or me or anyone. By this idea, we are simply animals evolved from slime and back to slime we go.
Sorry, you can't have it both ways; either there is something behind all this or there is not. And most certainly mother nature is not.
i believe there is something behind this too, did i say i didn't? i'm not saying at all that nature is behind anything, but we know that right now, the job of the animal kingdom is to keep life going on this planet. or do you think, as humans, we're better than that?
I used to play this on record many years ago. Your video backing is a superb tribute to the music, both for relaxing and removing stress. I have now retired to an area where I can look out onto such lovely scenery as you have added, the music adds the final dimension! Thanks
Though I feel more with Chopin's music; this piece of Händel is one of his most beautifull ones. Like bevjosefchuk, it was played at my father's funerall (and the funerall of my grandfather's too, two years after I was born). For that reaon it moves me to tears.
This was probably the most beautiful performance of Handel's Largo from his opera Xerxes that I've ever heard. Listening to this performance on my surround sound speakers was simply stunning !! And the video was awesome too. What magnicificent scenery. This is so typical of the perfection achieved by the London Symphony Orchestra. I would expect no less from them.....
The music expresses the highest philosophy in language that does not understand the reason.,this is song loe lvoe love love is wonderfullllllllllllllbeautifullllll xxxo veruy very very nice
Lovely, though the "moving water" effect in all those scenes is repetitive and definitely not needed for those photos, of either the waterfalls or the lakes.
This goes to show that Handel was really in touch with the beauty of the world, something that I aspire to achieve! Thank you for sharing his vision with us.
Merci !
I've favorited your Handel's Largo video!! So thankful you made it home safely after waiting for the ash cloud to lift. Thank you for using this as a response to my Hawaii video or Spring Shares Her Beauty (or both!!!).
If only leaders of the world and all her citizens together
Lend their ears to Handel, in `Largo
What a world it will be
Peace in our hearts
And food for our souls
A moment with God.

@NormbrettaMod thanks for your nice comment.The pain is still theren and it even gets worse after all this time.
divofan 6 months ago
@divofan
it is cruel of mother nature to give us the gift of life and to doom every one of us to have it taken back away. we are given life so that we may do our part in the circle that is the reason for life itself. death is part of this circle and therefore, without death there can be no life. so always bear in mind, whatever your mother may have passed away from, she did not die in vain - she died for all of us, just as she lived for all of us too :)
NormbrettaMod 6 months ago
@NormbrettaMod
What?? Given your view his mum lived and died in vain. Not for you or me or anyone. By this idea, we are simply animals evolved from slime and back to slime we go.
Sorry, you can't have it both ways; either there is something behind all this or there is not. And most certainly mother nature is not.
aurafeeche 6 months ago
@aurafeeche
we are animals, yes. is that a problem?
NormbrettaMod 6 months ago
@aurafeeche
i believe there is something behind this too, did i say i didn't? i'm not saying at all that nature is behind anything, but we know that right now, the job of the animal kingdom is to keep life going on this planet. or do you think, as humans, we're better than that?

I used to play this on record many years ago. Your video backing is a superb tribute to the music, both for relaxing and removing stress. I have now retired to an area where I can look out onto such lovely scenery as you have added, the music adds the final dimension! Thanks

Though I feel more with Chopin's music; this piece of Händel is one of his most beautifull ones. Like bevjosefchuk, it was played at my father's funerall (and the funerall of my grandfather's too, two years after I was born). For that reaon it moves me to tears.

O " Largo" de Handel pra mim e a mais bela obra de musica classica e esta performance esta maravilhosa
marcelovideira1970 1 year ago
This was probably the most beautiful performance of Handel's Largo from his opera Xerxes that I've ever heard. Listening to this performance on my surround sound speakers was simply stunning !! And the video was awesome too. What magnicificent scenery. This is so typical of the perfection achieved by the London Symphony Orchestra. I would expect no less from them.....

Beethoven, Bach and Handel are the three greatest. Mozart doesn't quite do it for me in the same way as these three.

Lovely, though the "moving water" effect in all those scenes is repetitive and definitely not needed for those photos, of either the waterfalls or the lakes.

I know its just personal opinion, but I like the water effects in the video, especially the closing scene, they bring everything to life!

Bonjour Kerry

Merci !
