OK..try this on for size...I used to be a tram driver in Melbourne driving 1956 vintage 'W' Class trams (streetcars) with external PA system...imagine 20 tons of original lead zeppelin barreling towards you with this full crank on the external public address system! I GAVE GOOD TRAM!
I've seen this work played by the same Orchestra on a video, but was removed from YouTube. Where can i get that video, or maybe the DVD? Anyone know who is the director?
It was actually modified to become the theme to Plan 9 From Outer Space. The composer Gordon Zahler was a paraplegic who mixed and matched various classical pieces.
@peppersax This piece was part of a ballet called Stal/Steel. The other movements have been lost though and were never performed. His music was repressed by the Soviet regime for not fitting into the Socialist Realism ideal that they were looking for. His piano music is a bit more challenging to listen to at first.
@dreamtownuk I tracked down the Die Hard version. It's easily the worst version I've ever heard. At least half of the horn melody in the first section is cut out, the trio is bad, and the coda is just godawful.
The best version I've heard is the Chailly version with the Royal Concertgebouw (I believe he replaces the metal sheet with anvil, which I enjoy), followed by the USSR Symphony Orchestra version—such intensity and power! Salonen with the LA Philharmonic gets third; not a fan of his coda.
I love this piece. Exhilarating! This is a great performance too - it follows the tempo changes in Mosolov's score and you can hear the violins and horns. Also the video images you placed with the music are very good. Thanks for posting this.
Some commentators below wanted to see the score. Well, I have the score, but it is a _paper_ score, not PDF.

Love this piece, although I think this is not a very good performance of it

Great song. The only note that contains tonality is the last one xD

@Tuck213 What are you talking about? How can a single note 'contain' tonality? Anyway this piece is tonal!
