  • I love this movie... god, and I loved Shun Oguri's little part... haha. Understandably, it may not suit everyone's preferences, but I did love the fact that they all spoke english. It was interesting.

  • THEESE TIME? WE WEEEEN!!!

  • hes got a heart and balls to match

  • You gotta be alive to spend your money....

    ...stranger.

  • I loved this movie so freakin' much...I'd choose Heike's side...

  • :sigh: Masanobu Ando....

And Yusuke Iseya is so cool!

  • good movie, but i wish it had subbes on the dvd (i have the dvd)

  • really? Aw!

there were subs on my dvd?

  • Yea, there was on mine as well. Did you get the blu-ray?

  • no subs on the dvd, but dont know about blu-ray

  • Jigan!!

  • about the english: wasn't this movie directed by Takashi Miike and intended for Japanese audiences? Hence, there is no need to understand the English. It's just for show! Quinten Tarantino (sp?) always "presents..." foreign movies and people end up thinking he's the director. Think "Hero" for example.

  • i dunno. From an artistic standpoint, i see the value in having them speak english. Besides reinforcing the whole meshing samurai/gunslinger thing, they all have to whack their faces up to pronounce the words which adds a certain dramatic charm to it all.

  • I see what you mean but I rather have a movie a can understand. I don't know about you but the terrible English distracts me BiG TIME from enjoying this movie at all.

  • Really? I thought it was hilarious, all the moist poorly delivered lines in history and all.

  • It would have been funny if this was intended to be a comedy. However it's a stylyzed action movie meant to be a fun adventure. Not expecting any comedy in this. I hope it gets reddubbed as an option for people like me.

  • Redubbed? Aw come on that would suck! The heavy Japanese accented Engrish is what makes this movie so unique! It's an awesome idea if you ask me. I've never seen actors forced to make a movie in a language that they couldn't even speak.

  • Hell yes, This has to be one of the greatest movies I have ever seen...

  • The guy in white reminds me of Mugen from Samurai Champloo. Anyways the director fucked up. The actors should have NOT been made to speak English. I can't understand shit! I hope they redub this thing for the DVD. Cuz I will not put up with this bullshit. Talk about fucking up badly.

  • xD Yeh he reminds me of Mugen as well, thats the first thing I thought when I saw the trailer.

  • gah...It looks great. Although..admittedly...i would turn on the subs anyway. ;p I'm not trying to bash them at all and I am flattered, it's just that it would sound better in japanese. ^_^

  • umm yeah, thats called "slang"

  • uhmmm. does anybody noe where i can watch this?

seems guud and alotta attractive men lmao.

  • yeah! who's the long haired guy in white? next to the guy talking? he is hot.

  • hahaha CHYYEAAAHHH!! haha some of the ppl on the white side speak better eng.

  • Well dumbass:

#1:They're saying their lines phonetically, which means they learned their english through sound.

#2:They're Japanese, stupid. What do you expect, them to be white skinned and brown/blonde hair?

  • #1: If they can't speak the language so it's remotely understandable, why speak it at all?

#2: So you're suggesting that Japanese are inherently gay-looking? I was referring to their Liberace-reject costumes and emo hair.

  • My fav is actually Oguri Shun who plays 'Akira', Shizuka's husband who was killed...it's a pity he is rarely in this film...but I've loved him for many yrs! He is so hot! I love him in all his acting roles I've seen!

  • This film looks really interesting. I like Masanobu Ando a lot.

  • I am an American white woman and I love Japanese men! I am totally obsessed with Yusuke Iseya. I loved this film. It was funny. It's not meant to be taken seriously. Sometimes you just need to go to the movies to laugh and have a good time. Anyone in Japan know where I can get more info on Iseya? I would love an autographed picture.

    Domo arigato gozaimasu!

  • Ando's English sounds so good!

He looks good in this role after seeing the trailer.

  • I love Ando. ^_^

  • Ando is only hot to Japanese girls. Hideaki Ito is the hottie here, not Ando. Japanese taste is so different from Western taste.

  • Maybe you're right. I'm japanese and my favourite is Ando Masanobu san. But it so strange to hear that not Japanese girls think Japanese guys are hot. For example I don't think european guys are hot (sorry, that's only my opinion). But Ando san is nice and looks very cool, so he's the best in Japan!

  • I'm not japanese, and I don't really find japanese guy's attractive (then again, I've never actually been and seen that many) but in my opinion, he's gorgeous :)

I love to watch him, he's a brilliant actor

  • I'm American and I think Ando is sexy so... Oh and i'm not asian by the way.

  • Mmmm, I'm white and I love Masanobu Ando, he's gorgeous.

  • Ando is so cute- is that is his actual accent when he speaks in English? When he speaks Japanese, he sounds different...

  • >D andobabe

    thx for upping :3

  • Ando is simply gorgeous even if he has silver teeth!

and the other guy has very good english...i think i can manage.

  • they dont swap ls and rs.. there is no l sound... its a rolling r sound that sounds like an l.

  • I'm the same, He's such a gd actor and really good looking too!

  • I know! It's a shame he's so talented and good looking but so underrated at the same time. It's like just because he's not an idol and at one time was never in some cheesy boyband means he's not worth their time. Shameful.

  • I love Hideaki Ito. Why do Japanese swap Rs and Ls? I love Japan (Not a Japanophile!)

  • hey it's you again! Yeah he's the only reason I'm remotely interested in this movie, but anyway it's just their accents I guess, can't really explain it

  • It's because in Japanese, one of their sounds is a mix between an R and an L. Try saying "eddy" over and over really quickly. That "dd" sound actually comes out like how the Japanese R/L is, so learning the difference between the two in English can be hard.

  • @Guang12

I don't know if it has been answered yet, but when I was learning Japanese, my teacher who actually was from Japan explained that in their language there was only the R-sound in the alphabet and no L, though the R sometimes sounds more like a mixture between a European R and L which makes it sound weird to Europeans whereas most Japanese people don't hear a difference between the letters R and L in western languages.

  • engrish everywhere

  • That was uncalled for. There is no need to be racist.

  • You think most Americans speak ebonics? That's one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard. Sure, I'll agree that most Americans are fucking retarded (though I'd say most of the world is, as well), but very, very few actually speak ebonics.

  • The guy who goes "No, join us!"...is that Sakai Masato?

His English is weird, yet oddly cute.

  • Yes that is Masato Sakai. He plays Taira no Shigemori.

  • Who is at 1:10?

I don't have any idea what they are saying! Aww. Why did he make them speak english?!

  • That's Iseya Yusuke at 1:10

  • Any moron could tell that this is a comedy. LOL Quentin Tarantino is even funny in this flick. Love that tall Japanese cowboy, Hideaki Ito...seriously. I've seen him in other Japanese movies or series. He's a hottie.

  • ...LOL.

This looks funny as hell, it has to be a comedy.

  • But you know, the philosophy you describe is seriously pushed by Kim Ki-Duk. Have you seen Bad Guy? That's a truly evil film.

A young girl has to be torn away from her well-dressed college boyfriend, and sold into prostitution, so she can love this rageaholic psychotic guy. And Kim Ki-Duk suggests that it's a good thing, because she has lost her illusions. Rigghhhhtt...

  • Frdiggy, I think Miike is mocking this excessive, nihilistic attitude. That's his speciality.

I haven't seen this movie, but that's what Ichi and Izo are about. People who can't feel anything, until their only emotion left are fear, sadism, etc.

By pushing this Japanese absurdity to the limits, Miike does show how rotten the world is. So there is some morality to it.

  • Really? I'm really interested in this movie and I thought it looked entertaining at least, but I where I live this movie will never get played so I don't have a chance in seeing it for a long time. Do you think you could tell me about it, mainly Hideaki's part as gunman, if it's not any trouble.

  • Edited so closely and quickly you can't really make out the action. His English is beyond terrible to listen to that I found it more distracting. Plus he doesn't do anything but draw his gun some 2 times and sit around eating noodles, plus get beaten up. Really, he's just a wax face with a Shinjuku host club hairdo if you ask me.

  • haha, that sucks. That's really disappointing.

  • miike purposely filmed it WHILE all the actors were learning english so it would give them an interesting accent. must be tough to do a film in another language you're currently learning!

  • ...i like this new "spaghetti" western made japan...i like more yusuke iseya

  • thats awesome i really want to see it!

  • They sound funny, but the movie look's very good.

  • The english is actually pretty good, especially masanobu ando's
