@dedetube All USA G&L's are custom ordered. May we suggest ordering one through PGS instead of eBay :) We can put together a custom spec'd guitar just for you. Feel free to call us. 503-670-4949
I got my S-500 back to 1997 and it's still my lovely one. Just out of interest, although G&L guitar has it's own character, where S-500 would be if put a head-to-head comparasion in fender product list?
hey andy could you do a video on the legacy? thinking of ordering one from pgs but couldnt find a video from you on it. just the standard legacy thanks (:
@NickWeiland The neck face? Do you mean the fretboard or the shape of the neck? I think if you order one to your specs instead of getting a stock, you can pick between different neck shapes and fretboard radius levels. The only downside is you have to wait for it to be built but I've heard the wait time isn't that bad for g&l
@leftylesvideo I just came across your question to Andy. If you are still looking and haven't rec'd your answer as yet. go to GANDLGUITARS in YT and you will see a good demo comparison between the S-500 and the Legacy. I own a S-500 and an Asat Special and rate these guitars nothing less than superb and a lot of bang for the buck compared to a Fender (which I also own three of) and would put these G&Ls above the Fender quality control Good luck.
can you explain the PTB system/toggle switch a bit more? what happens when it's "on"? (i assume that's when it's in the up position). does it change how the tone controls work? hope this isn't a stupid question. thanks.
@swing8th - PTB system is passive (PTB = Passive Treble Bass), so it's an integral part of the S-500's tone circuit rather than something that is switched on or off. It's basically two separate tone cut knobs, one for rolling off treble and one for rolling off bass. This differs from the standard strat tone control that only cuts treble frequencies. The mini-toggle give you more pickup combinations than a 5-way switch allows, like all three pickups together, for instance. Hope that helps!
@KidGloves2112 - Our website is a good place to get ideas about what features you might want, but for detailed info and ordering custom G&L's we would recommend giving our guitar guys a call at the shop, 503-670-4949. Thanks!
@ProGuitarShopDemos - I'm from Brazil and making a (long duration) long distance call like that would directly affect my budget so i can actually purchase the G&L i have in mind. haha
isn't there any way this ordering process can be done via email?
picked up a usa s-500 for really cheap from a local shop. really liked the guitar but hated the pickups, they sounded like crap on my high gain amp. i changed them to seymour duncan hot, vintage, and cool rails. WOW! now it plays the heaviest metal or it can also twang. the mini toggle switch gives it a unique growl :) perfect mod for an awesome guitar. every time i take it to my local shop, everyone wants to play it lol
maple is a little thinner and brighter, while rosewood sounds a little fuller and warmer.
Problem with maple fretboards is that they wear off quickly, unless they have a finish on them. But then, a finished fingerboard feels sticky when not painted properly, but you shouldn't worry about that with a gnl!
@14soul This would be a USA model. Tributes I've heard were good too with USA pickups. I have both a USA strat and an S-500. I think they are both great. The pickups on the s-500 are ceramic magnets so they are more touch sensitive and more powerful, but can be a little harsh sounding. If you have a warm amp, these pickups are really great and can do strat sounds 90% The other 10% you would get from the strat. You'll end up with both eventually, but probably play the s-500 more. Good
Andy, your starting to cost me a great deal of money with all of your demo's I've bought now 4 guitars become of your video demos' I'd like to say stop please, but "GAS" I do have, much to the shugrin of my wife bless her heart. I just purchase this in a quilted tobacco burst, vintage white pick guard, black p/us and knobs, sliver turners, gunoil neck finish with maple fretboard. A beauty to say the least. Thanks, and I mean it.
Kudos to Leo,he never gave up trying to improve the original strat. Im liking the G&L guitars more than ever . Andy always brings the best out in others, great demo .
I wonder if their PTB system would work for Guitar projects... my brain tells me that perhaps they're more suited to the G & L design a there may be little details I don't know of...
@RobbyBobbins Agreed, I'm just saying it's also understandable that some people don't like it. I like lead tones for heavy stuff (heavy that doesn't equal tons of gain, tone is the key) and also prefer the sound and feel of a humbucking strat than that of a les paul (a bit muddy tone for my taste and not very comfortable instruments) but if I buy a strat I'm going to want that genuine single coil tone at the bridge. So only two strats would do the trick for me :-)
@Aparashi - S-500's have G&L's Magnetic Field Coil pickups and 5-way switching with a mini-toggle. Legacy's have vintage style Alnico V single coils, 5-way switching and no mini-toggle.
hey. ampeg amp question. is an Ampeg Gemeni VI worth anything if it works and looks good??? also wondering about an amp head called an EMC 400 and i think a 2 12 cab thats with it. any info??
@francoUcazzu - Just to clarify, Andy was playing through a Fender DRRi just like always. The Ampeg's just a background prop. Great amp though, nonetheless. Thanks!
@RobbyBobbins It's not exactly the same, single coil with a split humbucker, is it. For one thing, the single coil would be considerably higher gain than the split coil. It's not very easy to get a matching sound out of those things.
@jimmyp73 because les pauls are heavy and generic? Also, a strat with a humbucker still sounds like a strat. Some people prefer the humbucker on the bridge, me being one of them.
@louisalive heavy and generic? comon no flaming anything here on these videos. i could go on to say that the 60 cycle hum on a strat is death, but you know what. a good guitar is a good guitar whether it be an aged strat or an aged paul.
@JoeAuriun Since when... yesterday? Or last week when he recorded the ASAT vid ?? WFT man. people gain wt for a bunch of reasons, not all fun. the s-500 are ceramic wound pickups thats why they sound so warm and buttery. they make me mouth water...LOL
