  • LOL "Stop drinkin my beer!" i ♥ Joe Cartwright

  • lol I love how Little Joe was about to say a smart response for a message for his pa and then changed his mind when he saw his brother's faces. The humor in this show is great!

  • my fav show of all time, if anyone knows where i can buy the complete series,(ie not boxsets of select shows) please message me,,thanks,,,

  • @doogwood The whole series in not available to buy unfortunately. You can buy the Official Box sets for Seasons 1&2 which have been released by CBS. You can purchase them from many retail places such as Amazon. You can also purchase individual seasons from 1 through to 7 from Amazon Germany. They were licensed to be made by a German production company but they stopped at season 7 because of falling sales. They are in dual languages - German & the original sound recording. Hope this helps.

  • @Bejules thanks alot this info really helps

  • This is one of my favorite episodes.

  • I think it was funny, and kind of strange that Ben sent his sons to their rooms, especially Adam and Hoss. Joe I could see more being sent to is room since he is quite younger than his brothers. Only you have to think of the era they are in too. They were to obey their parents. I'm sure even if the boys objected, Ben would still make them go up to their rooms.

And yes Ben could still give them a good spanking if needed! LOL

  • @MsDanceDiva234 Well you also have to remember back in the 1800s, if grown sons were still living at home, the father was still the head of the house and gave the orders, and if the father told them to do something or go somewhere they did it. So it wasn't unusual for back at that time era, but it does sound strange now, because our society has changed so much. But it does make it interesting to the story:)

  • @14mslukas True! :)

  • I think they do it out of respect for their Dad. I mean teenagers these days have no respect for their parents. Keeping your child under a firm hand says you love them and I think you Cartwright boys know that. Any other thoughts?

  • I can't decide whether i think the sending to bed is just wrong or just entertaining lol. I know back then you did exactly what your father said whatever age you were but it just doesn't quite sit right. Love the relationships between them all in Bonanza and Ben as a father is perfect.

  • I totally love the awe and respect they boys have for their Pa! Besides, if I'd had a father that loved and cared for me the way Ben does his boys - well - I'd go to bed when he told me to!! One more little thing; he could still whip any one of them!! LMAO!!

Thanks so much for the post!!

  • @jehukjehe Well said and I very much agree. You've also got to remember the era that this series was set in. There were very different standards around than there are today. You didn't talk back to your father. He was the head of the household and you lived by his rules.

  • The standard now is single female family supported by the tax payers and court ordered child support with the occassional DUDE there sleeping over with the MOM. Boy the Femanist via the lawmakers did a great job of destoying the way life was and throwing the fatheres on the street and in jail. They made fathers obsolete , the kids now have the Government to take care of them cause all men are deadbeat wife beaters. RIGHT?

  • @jehukjehe a trip to the barn!!!

  • @jehukjehe whipping them?even Adam?LOL!

  • i agree it is pathetic how 3 20/30 year old men still get sent to bed by their dad!!i wish they had stood up to him and stopped acting like he would spank them or something if they don't listen.

  • "STOP DRINKING MY BEER" lol

  • Ben sending Adam and Hoss to bed!!! If that doesn't beat all. I wish one of them had stood up to him and reminded him they were grown men, not little boys. I'd have moved out, too.

  • @maryanne151 lol yes that would have been good to see. don't think Ben can face his boys are all grown up!

  • i can see Pernell's point that its strange how 3 grown men are so subordinate to their pa still (sending them to bed) but at the same time its the family interactions i love most about this show. what does everyone else think?

  • @Jess80gam I agree. But it is what is part of the charm. love the whole family scenes and Bens authority.

  • @Jess80gam YES! i fell in love with the family when i was 12, and they played a huge role in my life as a teenager. Rediscovering them last year when i turned 60 i found that this was a family serial clad in Western garb and scenes from eps like this one and the values they imparted have stayed with me deep in my soul all the time. i LOVE these scenes where Pa is telling them off. See Springtime for example... LOL

  • @blessall4ever I am relatively new to Bonanza, i watched some with dad when growing up but theres so many i haven't seen, reminds me of my dad watching it and i totally love all the family interactions. I will look up Springtime episode, thank you.

  • @Jess80gam I think it is hilarious, that Ben is sending them to bed, but I wouldn't interpret too much in it. Probably the writers just had to find a way to get rid of Hoss and Adam to let Ben and Joe have their father-son talk in private. And it is quite obvious in every episode that Ben is the boss of ...well... everyone and this scene only affirms this and conveys: if your Pa owns the Ponderosa, you go to bed, when he wants. LOL

  • @Jess80gam true. but the family interactions are some of the best things about the show.

  • @DumasForever53 yes i totally agree its a hard balance for the writers
