  • After watching this go and watch Canada vs Russia 2010 olympics, to see how much the game has changed.

  • I'm american but i hold a lot of respect for the Canadian hockey team's gutsy tough intimidating playing that they imposed on the soviet hockey team while doing it in the USSR during the height of the cold war. An american team has never done the equivalent of that unless you consider Rocky IV to be a real sporting event with Sylvestor Stallone going into Moscow to KO Ivan Drago.

  • @Gyro911 ))))))))))

  • they wouldn't protect eagleson today!

    crook stole their pension fund!!!

  • @TheTzdope Who cares the fact that they did protect Eagelson in the USSR against soviet soilders with Machine guns showed how fearless and patriotic they were. That's an academy award hollywood script right there if it was an american team doing it

  • @Gyro911 eagleson was indicted on fraud charges a few years ago and guys like esposito and orr hate him today. my point was that if they knew then what they know now, things would of been different in 1972 moscow!!

  • @TheTzdope Which is completely irrelevant on what happened back in 72. The Canadian players physcially fought against soviet troops with machine guns while in the soviet union to get Eagelson away from them. That transcends athletic courage and would be described as war heroics

  • I don`t think these guys how much this series meant to Canadian hockey, the future of Canadian hockey could have been a lot different if we didn`t win.

  • I swear that friggin' game took 10 years off my life

  • The play-by-play commentator in this clip is Foster Hewitt, who broadcast Toronto Maple Leafs games for over fifty years.

His call was seen/heard over both CBC and CTV in Canada, and on some PBS stations in the United States (distributed through WGBH Boston).

At the time, Canada had 20 million people. It is said that fifteen million of them watched this game (although it began at 12 Noon EDT on a Friday afternoon!).

That would be the equivalent of 225 million Americans watching a Super Bowl.

  • We are the best at hockey , no doubt about it. Im Proud to be Canadian and i agree if Orr was in this tourney along with Hull then it would of been a sweep .Henderson is battling cancer now too and still isnt in the hall of fame even tho Tretiak is . I hope they get Henderson in before its too late . There is nothing better then hearing. "Henderson made a wild stab for it and fell. Here's another shot, right in front. They score! Henderson has scored for Canada!"

  • If Orr and Hull were in this tourney it wouldn't even have been close. Orr, perhaps the best player of all time (the most dominant--his numbers back it up) would've eaten up the Russians on their own, bigger rink.

  • The Ref was lucky it wasn't me...I would've fucking murdered that fuck.

  • the Soviets were better.

  • @dshiflo FUCK YOU

  • @fuckcalgarysucks

    go down USA, go down.

    -->Tea Party<--

  • @dshiflo what?

  • Bobby Orr = MAYBE 1 russian win AT MOST in the whole series

  • @armatageshanks06 Dont forget Bobby Hull, who didn't play because he was in the WHA (correct me if I'm wrong).

  • ask the poles, the finnish, georgians, hungarians, germans (especially those living in former east areas) even the english or the irish don't like russians. why? they are fucking dicks. they were headed in a good direction until, unfortuantely, stalin took over. nobody likes them. i rremember this game and i was rooting for canada and then moved their. i even rooted for the usa vs russia in the 80s. russia today is okay country but they are still most racist and unwelcoming of europe

  • @AlexVernonFlyer hitler should of destroy the soviet union ..instead of poland from the beginning!! and he should of concentrated on finishing these fuckin communism instead of killing the jews during the holocaust!

  • @pompei1968 jews and communism cannot be separated. from marx to the bolsheviks. jews conceived of and dominated the communist movements. under communism, churches were destroyed while synagogues were protected. the soviets created the jewish holohoax myth . they admit to manufacturing fake smoke stacks and gas chambers to create sympathy for jewish communists.

  • @pompei1968 connect the obvious dots. youtube 'More on the Holocaust Deception '...tell us all here what is not true about it. jews dominate the media today like they did to the Germans, so forget admit fiction hollywood holohoax versions....by the way, hitler was an asshole who was a jew, loved israel and created a coin in its honor...youtube search ' Adolf Hitler Founded Israel '...any honest person will start to demand why these facts are suppressed by zionist lobbies...fuck you

  • @pompei1968 HItler fialed to do so since the soviets out toughed him. THe german's could'nt match the soviets will to fight which is ironic since Canada played with that approach here out out willed the russians.

  • but unfortunately these smart revolutionaries all died before they really solidified their power. that is when dirty fucking stalin stepped in. stalin must have been hitlers secret brother because he was a bigger dick that hitler was but he kept it all in russia instead of anywhere else. but he really set the wheels in motion for the cold war. my grandpa was only 22 when he was shot by the asshole soviets in 1956 hungary and they KILLED OUR PRIME MINISTER!

  • the reason everyone on here hates russians and not canadians (except for the russians) is because the russians are dicks. everybody hates the russians, even most of themselves do because they've been dicks throughout history. okay, karl marx started it all (he was GERMAN! which are smart people) and lenin and trotsky were some of the smart russians, even mikhail kalinin and what they wanted was echoed across europe, a place where workers could rise and ordinary people could have a say in things

  • This was the most exciting game for me along with the USA beating USSR in the 1980 Olympics,Team Canada beating USSR in the Canada Cup 1987 featuring Gretzky's pass to Lemeiux I can ever remember.

  • The Russian commies love their motherland so much they left it for the American dollars. Sarcasm but it's fact.

  • Canadian men = No helmets( real men)

    Commies = Helmets(pussies)

  • Did they ever see any of those Soviets again? They didn't take losses well as far as I know..

  • in retrospect, we should have probably let them take Eagleson.

  • Crooked refereeing has gone on forever, why I don't know, but they always slide out clean on the otherside of the game.So many instances come to mind, but the one for me is the Womens gold medal game, forget whether it's 02 or 06 but the American ref was so friggin biased for the states but, Hefford's goal sank the states anyway. And don't tell me Kompalla wasn't paid off in this game, just don't.

  • Comment removed

  • Russian players are pussies, the cheated with the ref in game 8 but canada is that much better becasue they won anyways, fuck russia

  • Thumbs up for Canadian National Pride!!! And a gold in the Olympics!!!!!

  • im watching this im skaing my head on the calls and it was 40 years ago

  • If game 8 ended in a tie, would there have been overtime?

  • @liduck52

actually, this was the last game in the series. The Soviets had 1 more goal then canada coming into this game and there was no overtime. So Canada had to win this game in order to win the series.

  • 2 greatest teams in international hockey history.

  • give it to those cummi bastards!!!

  • @bodmon2233.. bball is for wiggers , like u, a 29 yr old taking a history exam?? lol

  • @bodmon2233 lmfaooo same here

  • @bodmon2233 i bet you failed.... at more then just the exam.

  • @bodmon2233 fuck you nigro faggot

  • @bodmon2233 basketball is stupid, hockey is awesome, football is for fags (save for CFL), and baseball is in the middle. now GTFO

  • This was the Greatest series ever to be played. This is a must for my Youtube Videos

I bought the DVD in full. In Canada, you can still get this and others for 60.00

  • 2010 games and Canada absolutely kicked Russia's ass, like they never had before in going on to win another "best on best" gold medal.

  • Russia shocked the crap out of us. We had no clue they would be so polished and precise. The four 1st games worried us When we were in Russia the pressure was on and even though I hated Bobby Clarke and the Broad Streeters but loved em in the team.Espo was hated by us Hab fans but we were glad to have. What a dink he was, going after the ref, but man he could shake things up and put puck in the net. Cournoyer was my total hero though! I friggin cry when I watch this stuff.

  • Two of the better goalies in Hockey History...yet neither could stop a beachball in this game, it seems anyways :)

  • this phil esposito is a very smart guy.

  • where is the cheapshot from bobby clarke?

  • The gretest moment in canadian sports.

  • Team spirit was higher in Canada, for example the Soviets would have never defended their official like Canadians did, so they finally won the series, no wonder, not Henderson though a lucky man, it's Esposito whose play was the key to the victory.

  • soviets were always sore losers, no matter what sport.

  • hey there! totally agree!! Russians/Soviets are Mister excuses...their sticks were to short...their skates weren't sharp enough...always something!!! They could never face the reality that they were never as good as Canada!!!! the latest was 2010 Olympics....where Canada wiped their ass again...Remeber Putin's speech lol??

  • @Kael7777 And what about 2011 juniors final? Whose ass was wiped again?

  • @tvlad81 yea ok 2010 olympics 7-3, ring any bells?

  • @metallica606 well, shit happens, but, Russia won Olympics 23 times, Canada - only 22... Latest contest was (2011 juniors final) was our success..so the question is settled, Russian team is at the moment obviously the best

  • @tvlad81 yea but the juniors are just amateurs. The last professional world competition was won by Canada.

  • @metallica606

The last professional world competition was world championship. Russia was deafeted by Czechs in final. But where was Canada? Apparently somewhere lower.

  • @tvlad81 , every russian gold has an asterix beside it if Canadas best players were not involved.

  • listen fool!! I am talking about your best against ours!! not some kind of bullshit cover up like you russian are used too ..ok!! you russian always like to cover up things and bullshit throught your mouths!!!

  • @Kael7777 i dont like russian guys at all but their chicks are pretty good for a nice hard asshole fuck.

greetings form good old Germany.we love and do respect Canada.the USA is a different story but always better than these lying crazy russian bastards.

  • @TheHockeyfreak1964 dude seriously you can't even get a chick so fuck off. soviet union fucked the shit out of the wetsern hockey world and noboby will ever be better than the soviet Big Red Machine. canada cup all games in canada man that is so fucking fair. fat candian fans boo soviets out and they have to play. but canadiens only were for the summit series in USSR. you were are and will be pussys.

and can you tell me why they are lying?

  • @SovietBear91 you have a point.... remember when the soviet army played the Flyers? Didn't they destroy them! No.... the soviets got beat up and tried to leave before the game was over... don't be calling pussies when Russian players are not known for bangin'.

  • @CodeOuch are you retaraded flyers attacked soviet players wich were without the puck and the fucking

referees did nothing. soviet where there for play hockey and not for a brawl and remember soviet players had the order to stay cool and dont start a fucking beatup. because if soviet players would beat the shit out of your pussy players your fucking wetsern media would call them barbarians. but flyers are heroes because they attacked players wich were witout the puck.

  • Fact: After Canada tied the game, the guy working the goal light behind the Russia net refused to turn on the light because he knew it would count against them. It was a perfectly legal goal. Not to mention the refs continually calling bullshit on Canada. They proved themselves to be sore losers.

  • i dont think Espo ever left the ice in this game

  • The referee for Game 8 was hand-picked by the Russians and was a last-minute substitution. He went to work right away, calling a lot of questionable penalties. When you add in the goal judge who refused to allow the tying goal until a near-riot, and Russians spearing Canadians behind the knee with near impunity, it makes me a lot less apologetic for Clarke's dirty slash on Kharlamov.

  • Anyone know where we can get video of the whole game, not just the highlights?

  • well, in the 2010 olympics...... they where terrible.

  • @tjackson76 you are now one of my heroes :)

  • In Soviet Russia, Henderson screws you!

  • What an ugly uniform the Canadians had!

  • You must remember the Soviet hockey team played together for years while the Canadian team was put together just before the series. That is why Canada got better as the series went on.

  • The fact that Zach Parise chose to play for the U.S shows how flawed he is. His dad played in the WORLDS BIGGEST HOCKEY GAME EVER! And won for Canada, yet he chooses the easiest team to make. Sad.

  • @MAPLELEAFSdennis As much as I'd like Parise to play for Canada, it wouldn't really make sense if he did, imo. His parents may be Canadian but he was born and raised in the US.

  • Dryden couldn't stop a beach ball against these guys

  • the most intense sporting/cultural event i have ever experienced.

  • A perfect series, so sick.

  • Interesting that during this series, the Soviet's home rink has ads on the boards, while no ads in the Canadian rinks.

  • old video but nice

    CANADA PWNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 7:31

  • I love it, all the bias officiating, off ice bullshit, and greatest d-man ever Booby Orr out, and Canada still pulls through, what a team! What a country! Fuckin eh!

  • @CaptainMcDangle not just the greatest d-man but the greatest player in my opinion

  • They should have given them 2 minutes in the sin bin for bad haircuts.

  • @azynkron it was the 70's you idiot

  • @azynkron today's haircuts are way worse.

  • You know. it has been 38 years and I still get goose bumps...it was simply a good time to be alive and a great time to be a Canadia....it was a time that can simply never be forgotten......

  • 6:15

  • you know this was one helluva series, I was just looking at the goalies. cant believe that the goalies back then were able to stop anything the pads were soo damn small

    The greatest series ever

  • Comment removed

  • For the person who asked, the guy who was pulled over the boards after the Cournoyer goal was Alan Eagleson, head of the NHL Players Association at the time, and was one of the key people to organize this series. Supposedly, he was being hassled by the Russian authorities. It turns out that the players should have let him fry. It's a shame he is in this video, as he became the focus of the greatest scandal in Canadian hockey history. He ripped off an incredible number of players of that era..

  • THE defining moment in hockey.

  • @lovelylass13 i still nearly cry when i see our summit whining goal...

  • @QCprepper Moi aussi. :)

  • How freaking much there were spectators?

  • Got to love Vladislav Tretiak - but I'm happy we won the games! :-)

  • Chris Cuthbert is the only person today that comes close to Foster Hewitt's caliber in calling a game. I was so disappointed when he left the CBC but now, as it would happen, am so happy because he called a historic Golden Game! :-)

  • The game is over and Canada has won the series. They've defeated the Soviets!

Love Foster Hewitts voice - the voice of hockey!

  • henderson has scored for canada!!! long live canadian hockey

  • burrr, the Canadian keeper seems weak, maybe it's the lack of massive pads!?

  • Could someone please tell me what happened after the goal? 6.50-7.30

Why is that man (coach?) living the game?

  • @reel1981

Canada scored to tie the game, but the goal judge didn't turn the light on. In the stands this was noticed by tournament organizer Alan Eagleson who created a ruckus. He was being dragged away by Soviet officials when the Canadian players skated over beat the officials away with thier sticks and took Eagleson to the Canadian bench.

  • He was part of the Canadian management: and the KGB, or something, was trying to arrest him. The players were made aware of it and skated over to bring him back to their bench.

  • @FryingBryan If the players knew then how badly he was ripping them off they would have let the KGB take him.

  • Not bad for playing a man short most of the tournament.

  • JUST GREAT !!

  • I agree with one guy here that said - you shake hands with your opponent once the game's over. That's the rule of thumb when it comes to true sportmanship aethics. Plus knowledge of history is also a key. The level of perks & benefits that Russians got pales in comparison to what the Canadian players were enjoying. Politics shouldn't be mixed with sport. The media in the West was no different than the old Soviet media, blowing it up into something it never was.

  • Let's put the jingoistic shtuff aside because half of the comments here sounds like it's straight from a TV beer commercial. Purely from the game point of view it was an awesome spectacle. And the credit should be given where it's due to whatever side. Don't forget that Canada lost the 1974 Series - where was Orr then? Doing homework before speaking is amust. All the media drummed up political hype aside you will see it's just a humans vs. humans game. Lets agree on that, like Canadians do ;)

  • To answer your question, Canada was represented by WHA players in 1974 with no NHLers, hence no Orr. Maybe you should do some homework, too. The political stuff was fodder for fans, but I agree the players didnt care, and the games are great today because the action was incredible, not because of the politics.

  • @sluggtube 1974 was WHA players u fucking dumbass, so Orr was playing in the NHL, thats where he was. Doing homework before you speak is a must, take your own advice u communist fuck.

  • @bloodwitch0789 Orr always had problems with his knee, and never got to play the Russians when he was in top form. This series was the first Canada Russia series, and it was all NHL.

  • EH O CANADA GO

  • dont say this cheer its terrible (and im canadian

  • ? What are u talking about?

  • The series would have been won long before game 8 if bobby orr was in the lineup

  • amen

  • Maybe. Or maybe it would have been lost.

  • how do you spell Canada -- H E A R T

this is why no one I repeat no one will ever play this game like a Canadian

  • All the little things about this series will be forever disputed. But no russian will ever give the canadians credit for this win because of Bobby's cheap shot on Kharlamov. That's what stupid about it. He robbed Canada forever of being an undisputed winner of this series.

  • don't know where you live, but here in Canada we KNOW we won that series

  • Little wonder, you live in Canada and you KNOW it. I just say that such cheapshots always ruin it.

And there is one thing about knowing. We all know that 2+2=4, but God alone knows if that is true.

  • @ATAS987654321 no he didnt , they won it with heart, against biased refs and dirty tactics

  • He did it. You watch it 100 times and he did it. Dirty tactics were used on both sides to an extent not even imaginable in today's hockey. It was a political thing back then. And biased refs are always pulled ot of the box as an excuse for everything in hockey, so don't even start. And let's face it, if somebody would do the same thing to let's say Crosby in Stanley Cup finals he would get shot for that.

  • the greatest moment in Hockey History. nothing comes close, no stanley cup, no olympics. this is the Gold Standard. The best playing the Best for the 1st time.

  • EXACTLY. Why can't anyone understand what this series was? Bragging about a team always winning (Soviets back in the day) is just wrong. They played their best against amateurs. This was Best VS Best for the first time. And Canada barely came out with a win. This proved the Russians were not amateurs. And even after this, it still took what, about 20 years or so for hockey to finally allow pro's into tournaments? But apparently this is to hard to understand for people.

  • The difference between Can & USSR players was that the Russians were playing & training in their off-work hours, whereas Canadians were playing hockey all the time as their career. A russian player would work during the day at a factory and practice hockey in the evening. Hockey wasn't their profession, it was their passion that didn't pay much. Very few people in the West understand the realities of living in the USSR at the time. One pro for the USSR though - there was no unemployment there :)

  • the NHL hardly paid what they did today back then. Many of the players on Team Canada also had day jobs.

  • ti chistiy dolboeb povidi svoih cadcoev poucitsya igrat v hokey ti hochesh skazat chto 2 sezona podryat russkie toje fipuskali pro vs ametr

  • this game easily beats the faggot ass miracle on ice bullshit

this is the greatest moment in history

  • no summit series was bigger because it was canadian and canada hockey moments always come first dumbfuck

  • just like nobody in Canada gives a shit about Miracle.

  • @tjackson76 though i do like the movie

  • here here americans don't even care about hockey and they suck at it

  • y were we shaking hands with a communist country?...i cud see them shaking hands if they werent threatening to blow up the west side and vice-versa with the americans...but they were evil at the time

dont shake hands with the enemy!

  • It's hockey, you shake hands are the games are done (Well, on a high level, not after a regular game). It's called respecting the team you just played.

  • its not like it was trudeau shaking hands with the soviet leader its hockey

  • canada cudve easily won all 8, 7 at the least, but we thought it was gunna be a cake walk and they took us by surprise. also if bobby orr wasnt hurt and if bobby hull didnt go to the fucking joke WHA, we cudve beat them in our sleep. but the summit series wudve been better by like 1000% if it were 10 years latter cuz canada wud have: gretzky, dionne, messier, bossy, trottier, coffey, bourque, ranford etc. but this was good too, even if i wasnt alive to see, but we wud be better with orr and hull

  • If Bobby Orr wasn't hurt.

    If Bobby Hull didn't go

    We could have

    We would have

    That's all irrelevant

    We won anyway

  • at 1:21 , I wished Parise had followed through and clubbed that piece of garbage Kompalla ... he was blatantly blatantly biased. This game would have been 5-1 Canada.

  • Tretiak is the best goalie in the world. He was ranked number #1 but he couldnt play for the NHL cuz he was part of the Soviet Union.

  • the best goal in hockey history

  • @MrJacob77 Totally agree, a canadian just paid ove $1 million dollars for the 19 jersey and he is going to take it on a cross country tour and Paul hederson will visit as many malls and centers as he can it will start in january and becasue he is fighting lukemia and he is 67 he will visit as many as posible.

  • thats right

  • He is bad, because you see only goals in this video.....

  • i guess it comes close but still this is The greatest moment in hockey history

  • And we owned you the oylmpics after that anyway.

  • Espo is still the man. Luv ya Phil.

  • Dah Dah Canada

    Niet Niet Soviet!

  • Greatest moment in Hockey History, nothing comes close

  • Game 8. School let out early for the game. Maybe 30 or 40 of us sat in our junior high school lunchroom watching a portable b/w set. It was tiny and must have had a 7 or 8 inch screen. Henderson scored and chairs flew. We could have burnt the school down and don't think the staff would have cared. They were holed in the staff lounge watching the game.

  • my mom skipped class to watch it that day only to find that the principal called off classes so they could all watch the game in the school's multipurpose room

  • hahaha, love to read this kind of memory stories ,,hahahaha
