Yeah god sat around for 8 billion years or so and was just digging himself and what he created. This made some sense when people toiled their whole life, starving much of the time and working themselves to death. At least they had the idea of heaven. This life is all you get, live it well. Live a life that your friends and relatives can look back on in enjoyment. If there was a god, I'm afraid he might look down and wonder what had happened. There are 2 separate issues: 1) recent creation of earth (<10,000 yrs ago) and 2) recent creation of man. I don't see any exegetical way to avoid adding up the numbers in the genealogy lists to come up with recent creation of Adam. The "Day=Age" theory makes no sense to me as I believe that certain plants can't live without certain symbiotic animals (like bees to pollinate them or whatever).

Let's not confuse the issues. If one believes that there could be an unspecified period of time between creation (1:1) and "waste & void" (1:2), this in no way implies any angelic rebellion on the earth or pre-Adamite race of "men." But I think most Biblicists believe that there was a pre-Adam creation of angels, not necessarily having anything to do with the earth.

To have a "gap" does not require one to translate the verb "became" either.

Generally Hebrew scholars deny that the Heb verb means became. I don't know any who says it could mean "became." Still, I think that there cud be a gap there like 1) The earth was created. 2) The earth was waste. No time specified. Go study transitive. Best wishes

I don't believe that the Hebrew grammar implies a transition, but that it ALLOWS a gap (not ASSERTS a gap or a change). A transition would be deduced from what Isaiah says about the earth not having been created tohu. Grammar is very important in Bible study. It is part of determining what the Lord means instead of reading our own fanciful ideas back into the text.

I know some scholars try to make "sons of God" to mean offspring of Seth and "daughters of men" as Adam's offspring, but that is not what it says. I don't know how they did it, but they did. Although Jesus did say that we will not have the institution of marriage in heaven, but will be like the angels, it does not say we will be sexless in heaven or that angels are sexless.
