I really enjoyed Crisis Core. being a fan of FF7 this showed the events leading up to FF7. they did a great job with the story in this game.
It had a great story and had good game play. the only part of the game i cant stand is how random you level up (it doesn't really work off XP), you kill someone and level up but get killed right after and you have to re do it but this time you do not level up (and it can be a long while before you do again). but other then that its a great game

@TheJorus (7) Changes in characters..like the yaoi looking relationship between Cloud and Zack, the fact that Zack fights an army at the end, has an ending speech that contradicts Cloud's deus ex machina story arc in the original game, the addition of a goddess that was never mentioned in the original thanks to the fact that VII covered EVERY aspect of the lifestream, considering Cloud was in it literally.
I am not a fanboy of VII, but I sure don't like good things being changed and they were.

He's even having trouble carrying the sword (didn't do it that slowly earlier)

In the Crisis Core ending, he nods and thinks to himself about how he cares for Zack and will live his dream. This means that Cloud knowingly LIES to everyone about being a soldier which is not the case at all.

The characters never looked like one nationality. Even in FF VIII, where the characters started to look real, the characters looked Caucasian. But now because Hinorobu is gone, Square decided to make the characters look like Japanese pop stars. Just look at Dissidia's FMV's. Squall does NOT look like Squall, he looks like a Jap cosplayer.

How also can I feel emotional for people (even if they die by the hundreds) if they act like stupid anime characters like the characters in Snow's resistance? They have a giant scorpion robot shooting at them and bullets hailing all over the place and he is whining and asking if he can take a nap because he feels dizzy. They show no signs of realism in horrifying scenarios, so I can't care.

I was expecting for Serah to die, but no, she became a crystal. The story would've been deeper if she had died, or become a C'ieth. At the end of the game it's pretty shocking to see almost all the party members transform into monsters.

It's why generally everyone is crying for a remake of VII, which should never be done...and it's not that VII was amazing and it deserves a remake. XIII had a good story. The gameplay was boring, it could've been for PS2 (because PS3/new gen console graphics are overrated) and they repeated way too many times why they're in a mess (increasing the game time by 10 hours probably).
@TheJorus (2) I guess the first 12 games in the series don't count given that was how they were. Square dropped the ball and were lazy is the bottom line. Interaction with the world and locations is vital to any story where you save the world. If you don't know the world, the cities and towns and the people that live in them then there is no tension or drama behind what you are fighting for.
@TheJorus (1) The problem with XIII is that it takes 25 hours for the game to get good. Had there been exploration, a better leveling system and characters that weren't complete morons, I could have take any direction in where Square decided to start off the story. Instead, it was linear and boring.
Even Square acknowledged that they tried something new with XIII and that alot of people hated it. Their excuse was: "We didn't want to take a wester-audience approach."

So going back to Sephiroth, he was normal until he finds speculates his origins and reads under the manor. Let's not forget that Hojo injected Jenova Cells into Sephiroth while Lucrecia was pregnant. This explains why he was so amazing at things at a young age.

Safer Sephiroth had one wing, but that was for the aspect of being a last boss and nothing more. It's something that needed no attention.

I really, really wish they hadn't had Zack moving like he had escaped from Kingdom Hearts here. Seriously, real people do not move that way, it looks ridiculous, and it screw ups the voice acting, since what would work suddenly doesn't match the motions.
Why the hell do they ALWAYS have to turn into a ridiculous ass monster? Can't for once they stay in their real forms? The fight scenes are infinitely more epic - You can actually SEE you are fighting Genesis, and not some weird form.
Because Final Fantasy villains ALWAYS have terrifying monstrous forms as their final shapes. Look at Sephiroth's "Saviour" form in FFVII for example. ESPECIALLY in FFVII's universe, crazy monster-forms seem to be the "this thing is super powerful" indicator.
@Pyre In a way, I agree, but some of their forms are so distracting it's hard to believe you are fighting Sephiroth/Genesis/Angeal or whatever. Also, they don't need terrifying forms to prove their individual power - Many of the fight scenes from FF7 and Crisis Core still give off a sense of furious, unchecked strength - And they don't need a massive, twenty foot red knight that doesn't resemble them.
@OperatorFive yeah they don't need that but it looks more badass square enix actually tries to give you a good sight (sometimes than a maximum of gaming pleasure) ... but that's not a problem since the REAL FINAL BOSS is genesis in HUMAN FORM !!!!!! (you'll fight him again after genesis avatar)
This is pretty much a side effect of Advent Children and the expectations it created. Sephiroth in that movie is supposed to possess all the power he had in the final fight of the game...but he's human instead of a giant eldritch abomination.
But then, like someone else pointed out, they echo FFVII and have the very finale of the fight be against Genesis' human shape.
So this is possibly what happens to Dante after going all the way into hell ending up in a completely different world with a cooler trench with armor shoulder pads on it and growing a wing like sephiroth.....Or perhaps genesis was doing his own Cosplay version of Dante XD

I really enjoyed Crisis Core. being a fan of FF7 this showed the events leading up to FF7. they did a great job with the story in this game.
It had a great story and had good game play. the only part of the game i cant stand is how random you level up (it doesn't really work off XP), you kill someone and level up but get killed right after and you have to re do it but this time you do not level up (and it can be a long while before you do again). but other then that its a great game

@TheJorus (7) Changes in characters..like the yaoi looking relationship between Cloud and Zack, the fact that Zack fights an army at the end, has an ending speech that contradicts Cloud's deus ex machina story arc in the original game, the addition of a goddess that was never mentioned in the original thanks to the fact that VII covered EVERY aspect of the lifestream, considering Cloud was in it literally.
I am not a fanboy of VII, but I sure don't like good things being changed and they were.

@TheJorus Too bad Minerva shows up. The whole speech Zack gives Cloud contradicts Cloud's condition at the time. So Cloud understands Zack, picks up his sword and proceeds to Midgar to blatantly lie to Tifa and company about being a Soldier 1st class?
That makes little sense compared to Cloud barely making it to Midgar, with slurred speech for Tifa to watch over until the beginning of VII.
Remember, Cloud was supposed to have a warped mind here. He doesn't at CC's ending. Square fucked up.

Ever thought that during that walk the mako addiction (that's still there, even though he's walking and talking abit), and a traumatic event of seeing your best friend die, wouldn't mess up his head until he reaches Midgar? He's even having trouble carrying the sword (didn't do it that slowly earlier)

In the Crisis Core ending, he nods and thinks to himself about how he cares for Zack and will live his dream. This means that Cloud knowingly LIES to everyone about being a soldier which is not the case at all.

The characters never looked like one nationality. Even in FF VIII, where the characters started to look real, the characters looked Caucasian. But now because Hinorobu is gone, Square decided to make the characters look like Japanese pop stars. Just look at Dissidia's FMV's. Squall does NOT look like Squall, he looks like a Jap cosplayer.

How also can I feel emotional for people (even if they die by the hundreds) if they act like stupid anime characters like the characters in Snow's resistance? They have a giant scorpion robot shooting at them and bullets hailing all over the place and he is whining and asking if he can take a nap because he feels dizzy. They show no signs of realism in horrifying scenarios, so I can't care.

I was expecting for Serah to die, but no, she became a crystal. The story would've been deeper if she had died, or become a C'ieth. At the end of the game it's pretty shocking to see almost all the party members transform into monsters.

@TheJorus (4) The new fans came because of KH and it was the only way they were going to identify with the character...because asking them to play a game with outdated graphics would be too hard. It's why generally everyone is crying for a remake of VII, which should never be done...and it's not that VII was amazing and it deserves a remake. The game was fine and is fine and Square ought to focus on making a new FF that is worth a shit considering XIII and XIV both sucked dick.

@banglefaar Well I agree with you about that. They also came via anime (AC really draws them). Maybe if they watched the good stuff, watching anime wouldn't be bad, but they only care about One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and Inuyasha (terrible BS).
XIII had a good story. The gameplay was boring, it could've been for PS2 (because PS3/new gen console graphics are overrated) and they repeated way too many times why they're in a mess (increasing the game time by 10 hours probably).

Interaction with the world and locations is vital to any story where you save the world. If you don't know the world, the cities and towns and the people that live in them then there is no tension or drama behind what you are fighting for.

Had there been exploration, a better leveling system and characters that weren't complete morons, I could have take any direction in where Square decided to start off the story. Instead, it was linear and boring.
Even Square acknowledged that they tried something new with XIII and that alot of people hated it. Their excuse was: "We didn't want to take a wester-audience approach."

When I saw the wing show up in Advent Children, I asked myself why? But the thing about wings that took more of my attention in CC was what did they symbolise. To Cissney it was freedom, to Genesis (who didn't really care about it) and Angeal (fgs stop crying about your wing and put it back in your back) it was a sign of a monster. So going back to Sephiroth, he was normal until he finds speculates his origins and reads under the manor. Let's not forget that Hojo injected Jenova Cells into Sephiroth while Lucrecia was pregnant. This explains why he was so amazing at things at a young age.

Sephiroth went insane because he read the books in the Manor and because the Jenova cells that are injected into each SOLDIER called to him. @banglefaar But it isn't a reason enough to start killing people and taking over the world. Everyone idolized Sephiroth because of his abilities, they though of him as a hero. If everyone would be afraid of him and his abiltiies, it would be a reason enough to go nuts, it would be a realistic reason to go nuts.

@TheJorus But Sephiroth went insane over the fact that he associated himself as the son of Jenova...who really is an alien from outer space that landed on the world years ago for the ancients to fight off. The only reason he was so bad ass was because Hojo (his father) injected Lucrecia's (his mother) fetus with Jenova cells. This caused Sephiroth to be insane in the long run. He just didn't know because that was the unfortunate crime of what Hojo did. Vincent even says this before you fight him

Then instead of Zack being killed with no parting words with a fucked up Cloud (due to the months of experiments that Hojo put both Zack and Cloud under) to crawl to Midgar for Tifa to find and help, Zack fights a FUCKING army with helicopters included, gets shot well over 80 times including a headshot...only to survive. What happens next is the worst part of this piece of shit...

@TheJorus (3) Then the whole Nibelheim incident was changed...for no reason Genesis is now the reason Sephiroth goes batshit by being told by him on what he was rather than figuring it out on his own. Instead of being under the manor for about a month reading nonstop about the Jenova Project, it was reduced to a matter of days. Did you see how many fucking books were down there? That's impossible. Then, because there is AC looking fighting, everyone asks how Cloud beat Sephiroth?

@banglefaar When Genesis tells Sephiroth about Jenova, he doesn't believe him. He wouldn't have gone nuts had he not read the books. And here lies the problem with VII. Sephiroth wants to rule the world because his mother was (mistaken as) an Ancient, or then he went nuts because he thinks he's a monster. Heck, he's got friends, he's got intelligence to be a doctor or something if he wants to quit fighting. Sounds like a stupid anime plot. This is the reason Angeal failed as a character.

@TheJorus (2) The fact that they changed so many things with Genesis alone, including adding a fucking wing on his back adjacent to where Sephiroth had one in his last form is pathetic. Most people don't realize that Sephiroth never sprouted one wing at all until stupid ass Kingdom Hearts. One Winged Angel was just a really popular song, nothing more. Safer Sephiroth had one wing, but that was for the aspect of being a last boss and nothing more. It's something that needed no attention.

First off, it doesn't carry the same atmosphere of the original game by having fight scenes like Advent Children and characters that don't act as they did in FF VII. For example, Cloud wasn't super emo, Zack wasn't a happy go lucky Japanese pop rocker looking moron, Genesis and Angeal were never involved...the back story with Genesis and Clones and Geneva the spirit of the world is fucking stupid and never had any relevance AT all.

You have Cloud fighting off against 3 guys that come from no where and yet have cell phones with phone numbers to Rufus, have him and the world by their balls...and suddenly act on some convoluted scheme that isn't really explained simply because all the fanboys want to see Cloud and Sephiroth fight. You let the action soak in and you give up on the questions.

Advent Children was a CG masterpiece of a movie game that expanded the beautiful world of final fantasy 7 to all time high. sure it had cool fights, but it showed the aftermath of Meteor and how everything was pretty fucked up afterwards, it expanded the story, and the story was awesome, the 3 guys were remnants of sephiroth so once one of them fused with jenovas head, what else is gonna happen?

Spirits Within carried the same theme of FF VII about the Lifestream. It had a Cid, a cameo with a chocobo (made a label on clothing) world catastrophes and characters that don't come from no where. Just because it's sci-fi doesn't make it FF.

Because last I looked, there was a game called FFVII that came out in 1997 with a perfect plot that included Cloud WITH a Buster Sword, a small part with Zack who gave Cloud nothing but ideas on what the both of them could do before being shot dead. Being ashamed of not making it into Soldier for Tifa, Cloud unknowingly took on the persona of Zack, his friend, and lived a lie because of the horrible experiments Hojo did to him including the injection of Mako.

@dragondook Too bad Genesis shows up in Dirge at the end, so I guess all the shit that happened in Crisis Core is related to Dirge which is a sequel to the world of FF VII which makes it a part of the story. Crisis Core was a contradiction of everything VII stood for. If you don't realize this, then it's because you either didn't play VII all the way through, or it's because you suck Square-Enix's cock and call anything they deliver a masterpiece.

While X-2 is by far the worst sequel ever (even worse than Dirge of Cerberus), Crisis Core went back into the origins story of VII and added two characters that were never mentioned at all. Then forced them to become main characters...especially Genesis who shows up in DoC, which is 2 years after Advent Children. It contradicted so many things in the original story that it makes me cringe to think about it.

I really, really wish they hadn't had Zack moving like he had escaped from Kingdom Hearts here. Seriously, real people do not move that way, it looks ridiculous, and it screw ups the voice acting, since what would work suddenly doesn't match the motions.

Why the hell do they ALWAYS have to turn into a ridiculous ass monster? Can't for once they stay in their real forms? The fight scenes are infinitely more epic - You can actually SEE you are fighting Genesis, and not some weird form.

Because Final Fantasy villains ALWAYS have terrifying monstrous forms as their final shapes. Look at Sephiroth's "Saviour" form in FFVII for example. ESPECIALLY in FFVII's universe, crazy monster-forms seem to be the "this thing is super powerful" indicator.

@Pyre In a way, I agree, but some of their forms are so distracting it's hard to believe you are fighting Sephiroth/Genesis/Angeal or whatever. Also, they don't need terrifying forms to prove their individual power - Many of the fight scenes from FF7 and Crisis Core still give off a sense of furious, unchecked strength - And they don't need a massive, twenty foot red knight that doesn't resemble them.

This is pretty much a side effect of Advent Children and the expectations it created. Sephiroth in that movie is supposed to possess all the power he had in the final fight of the game...but he's human instead of a giant eldritch abomination.
But then, like someone else pointed out, they echo FFVII and have the very finale of the fight be against Genesis' human shape.
