This thing sounds like garbage. I have the same drum, in the Antiqued Silver finish... and it sounds great! Not sure why this thing sounds so bad. Either poor tuning or poor mic'ing.
@claudiofimiani: Exactly! That's why I said it sounds like crap. Normally I love Toca percussion products but this particular drum sounds like the dude is beating on a cardboard box.
If you want to play....get an authentic drum, you can't match it for sound and aesthetics....if you want a stupid plastic ornament....go for your life!
I have this djembe I have been playing for a really long time and I seriously do not like this particular one.. The shell suckssss because it does not sound natural at all.. It`s too modernly artificial!
@xXRASHEEDXx That's good to know man. I've been looking up drums. (my two sisters bellydance) and I heard the djembe is the instrument for the dance. Is there a paticular drum you prefer that's possibly on muscian's friend.com. I have my mind set on a darbuka. I also want to know how the two drums differ. I'll be watching more vids and will eventually figure it out, but if you could suggest a better djembe, that would be cool.
@bettewills Yeah try to get a jembe from someone that can actually make one themself the original way.. like west african djembes are the best.. for me atleast.
what size is this drum? a 12"? great crisp sound! :D thanks for posting. i'm looking at buying one soon and can't decide between a 9", 10" or 12". Any suggestions. i like good bass yet a crisp slap. Decisions!
You can get the Toca djembe for about already $50 I saw one at Amazon for this price. But I am from the Netherlands and here they are from 25 euro to like about 300 euro's! HTH.
meh, traditional djembes made from proper wood and animal skin (even fur!) woven and made in the african traditional way have a much better sound- more authentic.
ah but you can order online a traditional djembe direct from africa for under £80... although it would be (depending on the size) somewhat heavier than this type... so perhaps you're right on the portability bonus haha!

This thing sounds terrible... either that or the microphone built into the camera has no bass response.
Every hit sounds the same

it is a djembe, its just mechanically tuned. It doesn't use strings, but instead you tune with a key, like a normal drum.

one question how much is that djembe

I bought one at a local Sam Ash for $169+tax. Great value since the carrying bag was included in the purchase price.
BTW...I'm happy with this drum..it's great
