  • "I taught John Travolta how to dance" LOL Gordon you moron.

  • The funniest song ever!

  • Awsome. I can still remember every word (which is sort of scary I think).

  • Playing rhythym guitar with mittens, fucking priceless.

  • i have a neighbor called gordon, total moron

  • This was bizarre and brilliant. Jilted John opened the door for off-the-wall music videos.

  • This is essential and stands up to the scrutiny of time - unlike Kid Jensen.

It 'rocks', is genuine and cool - despite being something of a parody, and it speaks poetically. Jensen comes across like John's geography teacher - just about approving of the relative AOR sounds of Blondie's 'Picture This' . I want to grab him by the shirt collar and spit 'what kind of DJ can't identify new Rock n Roll when they hear it!?'

  • @liborsionko yea, I thought that aswell. What a twat!

  • What's with that intro from Dave 'Kid' Jensen? Boo! Always a tops song. And WHAT a band!

  • shuttleworth!!

  • 500 bus stops!!!

  • Gordon Brown you are going OUT!

  • Austin Ambassador Y reg.

  • Please tell me you're going to re-release this for the general election. Please do, it'll be number one!

  • Ooof this one's a bit ebullient in't it? More dry ice please, not sufficient! Well in fact theres none as far as I can see, ohhhhhh.

  • "I know he's a moron..Gordon is a MORON"

It's much funnier 30 years on - love it!

  • great memories bought this on single aug 1978/a true classic 78/79 great memories leaving school ....sony walkmans, lee cooper jeans, tiswas, chips, incredible hulk, crossroads, return of the saint ian ogilvy, disco music, power cuts, rubbish strikes, bjorn borg 79 champ, maggie thatcher i could go on..

  • Is this The Streets' dad?

  • No, he said "puff", not "cunt", JJ is disputing Gordon's manliness.

  • It did sound like "cunt".

  • Fuck me I still like this song after all this time.

Hearing it again, he sounds a bit like a very effete John Lydon (a stretch, I know) crossed with Frank from Some Mothers Do 'ave 'em (The Phantom Of The Opera guy).

The backing band could almost be from The Fall.

    Which I like.

  • whose that CUNT i said his name yeah but hes no CUNT she cried

  • did he say CUNT

  • Always thought on the record he sung I'll get my mate Paddy to hit him. Here it's Barry. Think it's Harry on another TOTP!

  • It's not fair John but you got the last laugh in the end ;)

  • best punk song ever :P

  • "best punk song ever"

its funny, i agree, its totally priceless and defines the era as much as any proper punk release. But at the time, the song was written and released as a satire of punk- the point was here's this guy with nothing to sing about except run-of-the-mill teenage angst, with a band that can hardly play but do a good line in looking cool and oh so bored. it's total genius, but what else would you expect from the man who went on to create the mighty John Shuttleworth?

  • couldnt have put it better myself ;P

  • A very good punk track from the 70"s

  • Jilted John Shuttleworth. Ace!

  • not that puff I said dismayed

yes but he's no puff she cried

    Brillliant!

  • is gordon brown a moron?

  • In reply to Stoneroses13 I would like to say simply that Jilted John were 30 years ahead of their time. Whether or not Gordon is a puff is open to debate.

  • well, if he looks trendy, then he's a puffter....

  • thanks for posting

  • Is this the only song they ever did?

  • no he did 2 albums

    true love stories

    and the crap stops here

  • Thanks for the reply

  • Is that the original Bez??? hehehe

  • fuckin genius

  • I think a certain pioneer of the Britpop movement based his early image and singing style on Jilted John. I'm not saying who...leaving it for people to guess

  • kazzielm, i'm curious.. who is the guy?

  • Graham Fellows actor musician comedian now

    'John Shuttleworth'

  • thx for reply.

  • That'll be Albarn

  • "Im sopseh, i'm sopseh" lol.

  • I dunno about anybody else, but the phrase 'here we go...2,3,4' is STILL often used in our family! (okay; so we're all barmy as well...!)

    A great spoof punk record.

  • "Not that puff I said dismayed, yes but he's no puff she cried, he's more than a man than you'll ever be, ere we go 2-3-4"

  • they were standing outside a cinema. if i remember right, gail told him she had been jilted. good in-joke!
