I have an 800D and there are a number of design changes to make it better, like, cable channels behind the motherboard, with power + 4 PCI-E cables my side panel bulges :(, or the pissy plastic bit that flips down for the USB etc - make it solid aluminium! include the 5 1/4 quick release mechanisms on the other side as well, else ur drives do not mount flush :( AND, the 1 plastic cover that is visible should have "CORSAIR" on it, not the one hidden by the side panel :/ AND a 4x140mm rad space.
for liquid...800d. but i think the best air cooled wasn't even mentioned...haf 932. at first, i thought it was ugly, but the 932 grows on you after a while.
@101Hoody Weight: It's a case. LAN parties are for fags, so let the case sit.
Look: Personal preference. Riced out cases look like fags own them. (read: dahvie vanity)
Stock fans: It's a $300 case, you're a fag for leaving the stock fans in it. The person willing to shell out that kind of money for a case is filling it with liquid cooling and/or Noctua fans.
That case is fucking ugly, its fucking heavy(20KG empty :O retarded) wonder how you actually got it out the store, Two fans come with it, TWO FANS!!! and your paying $300 for it!! Fuck that shit, you might have money to waste but some of us are smart. Cooler Master FTW!!!!
And also - Only kids get bling-chassis ( I can vouch for that. I got myself a really cool case when i was 14, blingy and shit. Worst mistake i've ever done.)
There's about 4 options on the case market today.
Silverstone Fortress FT02
Cooler Master ATCS840
Corsair Obsidian
And a Lian-li (They're very much alike most of their cases.)
@511V325731N Can say the exact same thing about the 800D, The CM one and the SilverStone ones are nice, also some Lian-Li ones. But everyone is entitled to there own opinion...
800d is only good for watercooling (Where it's outgunned by chassis like the CM ATCS840) and of course, the cable-management in the 800d looks nice, and it has the pro of hot-swap, if you use that.
1200 is just bad. It was OK a few years ago but now, there's no reason to get it, unless you love disco-plastic.
I own obsidian 800D and its perfect in any way.Its overpriced so much but its most beautiwfol, big and all black design. Not the best big airflow case on the market, but FTW case for sure. Bad english srry
Mountain Mods Pinnacle 24 would be my personal vote for the best full tower case of all time. All amuminum and the amount of custom options on that case is amazing. It's neat that you can add the Tower Pedestal 24 to it and it becomes an addition to the case for housing extra radiator(s).
the obsidian 800D has a stunning gorgeus inside but a very awkward window and the corsair logo looks pretty unfitting
the cooler master cosmos s now this is the case im considering the most as the design is just amazing but it's pretty big and the front leans down on my desk (i had it before) it has no black inside or window if it had a full window and black inside then no doubt i would get it
reason why i want window is simple my new hardware will have lights :)
ve seen the 800d in person doesnt look tnearyt as good as pictures on the outside anyways as far as cooling if you have water cooling then go for it if your on air dont waste your time or money just for cable management
lol no.. it only has 1 intake fan. it isnt good enough.. it doesnt even have 1 intake at the front.. thatcase doesnt even come close to match the ATCS 840 cooling..
I have a Corsair Obsidian 800D case. Only get this case if you plan on a. Water cooling or b. changing all the fans out.
The standard fans don't push/pull nearly enough air to keep things cool. My ambient temperatures went up by 7c when I switched from an Antec 900.
Once I swapped out all the fans, added an extra fan down by the PSU pulling air in, and installed water cooling, my temperatures dropped back down to Antec 900 levels (antec 900 has great air flow).
Also, the "tool-less" optical drive mounts are CHEAP. They break easily, and don't allow for certain types of screws to be used.
On the other hand, the motherboard "tray" is removable, and also has a removable panel behind the cpu. The wire management is simply amazing. Also, I had enough room to internally install my Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultima kit with room to spare.
I have a feeling they will revise this case to fix a few issues (weak fans, crappy tool-less design).
From what I have seen the 800D is a improved version of the Antec P183 (which I am going to buy, because I can't find the 800D any where). It is very similar, it has the separated space between the PSU, not too many fans but still kept very cool, looks extremely professional, sexy and not over the top at all. They both make it easy to make your own comp, both have a little gap in the back which you can run your wires through so the interior looks neat. Both are VERY large.
From what I've read its airflow is shit. It has very little intake and too much exhaust. It suffocates. I was planning on getting it until I heard this.
swap out the fans and all is well. The standard corsair fans top out at like 950RPM, which is crap. Toss in some high quality ball-bearing fans and the air flow is amazing.
Then again... doing that would ruin the whole dust filter busines..... ugh..
oh.. and the 800D apparently is not great stock air cooling. It looks like it is a fantastic case... amazing for water cooling. Many great features but i'd say poor air cooling design.
The CMATCS840 is the one I'm thinking about getting. I just don't like one 230 intake and a ridiculous amount of exhaust. Where does it get the air from to exhaust? The bottom that would be hindered by my carpet.. and probably just go right out the psu??.... or the vents on the back of the case when the lil adapter for exhaust would just blow hot air right back in near the video cards to be exhausted out the top. Maybe removing one top exhaust and cutting it in as intake on the side would help?
@hamburglerz77 only if your under water if your on air witch most of us are dont even think oabout the 800d terrible for air youll get bad temp all aroung with that case just get a haf x
Oh dear god. Not the HAF X. If you're going to use air: Get the Cooler Master ATCS840.
The HAF X is for kids, plastic crap..
I'm sitting with an 800D, and i aircool. The case is not meant for air-cooling but i've made the temps accetable (Not good, but completely acceptable) by turning the back exhaust to an intake and using two fans on the top as exhaust. Got the temps down with 10degrees that way.
@511V325731N not sure what your saying if your saying the 840 is better for air if so that is simply not true if your running air you want possitive pressure witch the 840 does not have it is a negitive pressure case the haf x is in more ways than one better than the 840 in a q@a 3dgameman was asked witch case to get and even though he has an 840 he said to get the haf x wwhat do u mean kids crap its a fantastic case btw has all of the features of the 800d practicly
The HAF X exceeds at cooling at stock-config. By adding 1 fan and turning the back exhaust to an intake, the 800Ds temperatures is around 2-3 degrees hotter than the HAF X (The GPU's, however, are hotter in the 800D due to lack of GPU-cooling)
The inside design is in no way comparable to the 800D. It just isn't.
The HAF has two hotswap's instead of 4 (If that makes a difference to you)
The design is completely different where there is brushed aluminium, HAF has plastic.
@511V325731N that doesnt even make any logical sense think about the airflow patterns your setup is bloonly blowing air in the front side to the back of the mobo in through the back and out the top very broken up yes better than the stock the haf x is a clean pattern almost as good as the 932 witch to this day no case can match with airi i promis you the way you have your case cant match the haf
@511V325731N True, I love the look of this case..but the concern I have is this. I have a triple 120 rad that I want taking fresh air into the case, and if the bottom fans are bringing air up also...that leaves one small fan at the back to expel air. I really want this case. But I cannot see how I will have the cooling setup if I have this radiator setup! I currently have a HAF X which I love. But I would buy the Obsidian if I found a solution to this issue :) Any tips appreciated!
You can, turn it all upside down. Make the top intake, and the bottom exhaust.
The "hot air rises"-term is true, but it won't make much difference. But i don't think you'll get much of a difference in temps with using the rad as exhaust. 2-3 degress would be my guess. The 800D is the king of liquid cooling!
Seen a new review on the 800D, and it performed worst than the CM Scout & 922, both of which is $200 less. Makes no sense to pay $200 extra for cable management. The ATCS 840 is the clear winner.
Hey where did u read that review i'd like to get more info on the 800D. As far as air cooling goes this case doesn't look like the way go. It doesn't surprize me that the scout and 922 would out perform it in that area, but like the TJ07 it looks like more of a watercooling case to me. I mean come on it only has 1 140mm intake it for enthusiasts i.e. watercoolers and maybe phase.
I seen it on the Corsair forums I think under cases & cooling. Someone posted a link to it. They compared it to about ten cases. It just doesn't make sense to spend $300 on a case that needs to be watercooled. A case that much should be great in both configurations, You probably will not see this case until next year since it performs so badly, and Corsair knows it, that why it sucj long delay. They can't justify the price. Its vaporware for now.
That is because the case is designed to have 3-6 120mm fans on the top as exhaust. Also, with the H50 Corsair cooler, the rear exhaust is supposed to be an intake. Not to mention that having a case with a 20cm fan on the side looks stupid. The 800D is INCREDIBLE for water cooling while looking very suave.
Thanks again Rod, always great information. I was all set on the Antec 840 but then found out about Corsair's new offering the Obsidian 800D. I'm gonna go with that, I think it is going to be a real winner, it certainly looks badass! Now to figure out water cooling options!
you should do another vid on this im thinking of the 650 d but not 100% sure and others around the price point would be nice

So many wrongs.
15,6kg. (Due to the high quality-front and well, it's steel body instead of aluminium. It should've been aluminium.)
And you get 3 fans.
I gotta say, it was worth every penny i paid for it (I got it for like 200 bucks, i pay more for a pair of headphones so it was a great price)
The cooling however - is not that good for air. But i fixed the temps so that they're good.

A question to anyone that owns one though.
I've had aluminum cases in the past and one thing that annoyed me... was the rattling.
I like how the Cosmos has nice thick aluminum panels with rubber on the side to prevent any vibrations.
Does the CMATCS 840's thin aluminum panels make any noise while all components are running?

@511V325731N that doesnt even make any logical sense think about the airflow patterns your setup is bloonly blowing air in the front side to the back of the mobo in through the back and out the top very broken up yes better than the stock the haf x is a clean pattern almost as good as the 932 witch to this day no case can match with airi i promis you the way you have your case cant match the haf
asus3571 1 year ago
@asus3571
I don't think you have any idea about how the 800D is built.
The air goes in the bottom and exits through the back, by default.
I've done so that it enters through the back, and the bottom, and blows up from the top.
The 840 can very well match the HAF X in cooling performance. (Match, which means being around the same temps, not beat.)
The HAF-X is a chilly case, but that is all it is. It's ugly as hell, and so plastic.
But sure, people might like that over a clean case

@511V325731N True, I love the look of this case..but the concern I have is this. I have a triple 120 rad that I want taking fresh air into the case, and if the bottom fans are bringing air up also...that leaves one small fan at the back to expel air. I really want this case. But I cannot see how I will have the cooling setup if I have this radiator setup! I currently have a HAF X which I love. But I would buy the Obsidian if I found a solution to this issue :) Any tips appreciated!

@jlebesis

Hello 3DGameMan
Could you please make a video review about the new Corsair Obsidian 800 D Case? You make the best reviews!!!

Hello Rodney,
What do you think about thermaltakes & BMW level 10 case?
It really looks interesting but id like to know how it keeps everything cool being so compact.

Seen a new review on the 800D, and it performed worst than the CM Scout & 922, both of which is $200 less. Makes no sense to pay $200 extra for cable management. The ATCS 840 is the clear winner.
BlacklightMultimedia 2 years ago
Hey where did u read that review i'd like to get more info on the 800D. As far as air cooling goes this case doesn't look like the way go. It doesn't surprize me that the scout and 922 would out perform it in that area, but like the TJ07 it looks like more of a watercooling case to me. I mean come on it only has 1 140mm intake it for enthusiasts i.e. watercoolers and maybe phase.
Macsimus007 2 years ago
I seen it on the Corsair forums I think under cases & cooling. Someone posted a link to it. They compared it to about ten cases. It just doesn't make sense to spend $300 on a case that needs to be watercooled. A case that much should be great in both configurations, You probably will not see this case until next year since it performs so badly, and Corsair knows it, that why it sucj long delay. They can't justify the price. Its vaporware for now.

The 800D is a water coolers dream though.
Dewality 2 years ago 2
CM 840 showed at bit-tech,10 degrees more than antec 902 which is too much and its caused by its size cuz fans and components are not tight enough.
3DGM would have the best reviews if he supplied us with some temperatures...
vlefteris 2 years ago
