Malayalam and tamil are not twin languages, infact tamil was the intial dravidian language, malayalam is practically derived from tamil, so malayalam can be said as ancient tamil...tamil speaking ppl can understand malayalam but its hard for ppl speaking malayalam to track tamil words...
