This movie came out when I was in 8th or 9th grade. Needless to say most of the guys in school tried this kick on one another. We all thought we were Billy Jack but then we evolved into Blonde of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly so we started smoking those little cigars. BORN IN THE USA. :-)
IMO an indidvidual can be a pacifist and still protect themselves from abuse. A pacifist need not be docile or submissive....just someone who abhors senseless violence.
Yeah, overall the movie sucked and the acting was poor. But at the time I thought the fight scenes were cool. They sparked a long term interest for me in martial arts. So there was something positive LoL.
It was a retarded hippie freak show. Supposedly anti-war/violence yet drew crowds based on fight scenes. Completely hipocritical like everything in the 60's
Tom Laughlin who played the role in this 1971 film is still politically active. For any person interested in culture of the 70's this film is a must see.
It is a decent movie for its time. It was a blockbuster hit and preceded all the Bruce Lee movies as far as martial arts scenes go. It was independently produced and there are several sequels, i.e. The Trial of Billy Jack & Billy Jack Goes To Washington. Also there was one before this one called The Born Losers.
Ok film. Really long with a low budget and lackluster acting. Still worth it for the fight scenes (Doubled by korean Hapkido master Bong Soo Han) and the story is good too. I have all the Billy Jack films. :)

The fight scenes were okay, but overall, it was an awful movie with awful acting, an awful plot and really fake-looking blood.
wondoney 5 years ago
Yeah, the blood looked really bad. Ever see the sequel? Now that had some classic fights! "The Trial Of Billy Jack". Really long film though....

@metalliclark It's ridiculously, absurdly good. I use those adjectives in all seriousness.
