crazy, i did some winter swimming last year in January in a river in Switzerland but not at temperatures as low as -30. Isn't that dangerous? i guess you trained a lot? did you do that after saunaing?

yah me and my friends do this all the time at my cabin, there's an underground hotspot that we open up (dig up) in the fall that stays warm all year, I have no idea why, the water doesn't ice over though. but from the looks of this one it is NOT heated. it's believed that it is actually healthy to swim for short times in freezing water. it starts your heart pumping very fast which is good for you. I asked a physician.
@EpicWinzz - It is not steam, it's water vapor raising from about 0 celsius water. The vapor condenses in the about -30 celsius cold air. Here is a quotation from a quite good explanation at Yahoo answers:
"At normal surface atmospheric pressure, water evaporates. The vapor is not hot enough to be steam, as from a kettle or heated pot, but it is water vapor, and the lower air temperature cause the vapor to condense enough to be visible."
I first went ice swimming with my dad @ age 3. I only stayed in 10 seconds then, but U build up slowley. I've had daily cold baths & swims ever since. I'm now 23 & swim in winter @ 2C for 10mins most days. Its a fantastic way to toughen up.
I swim everyday in the sea in winter and never caught a cold. it's very important to relax and move in the water. An extra cream to spread on the skin helps
if you think it's a hotspring, then why is there ice? Hmmmmmm? A hot spring wouldn't be that tiny, it's becuase it really really cold out. One of those days I call a snot freezer, LOL!

Vesi oli noin 3-4 ºC lämpöistä , mutta tuntui suhteellisen lämpimältä koska ilma oli niin kylmä. Syksyllä tuulisella ja sateisella kelillä uiminen tuntuu paljon kylmemmältä.
Water temperature was about 3-4 ºC, but it felt almost warm because the air temperature was over 30ºC colder.
Well, you stayed in the water for an impressively long time. (I swim outdoors through the winter in London, so I know what it's like.) Thanks for sharing this - good video.
You poured some hot water there, from a large kettle, just before shooting this footage. Did you not?
