Comic relief is a character with goofy personality or silly looking moves, which still has no influence on their playstyle or how strong they are. Deadpool is a great example. Joke characters are characters like Dan, Servbot, and MVC2 Roll who are supposed to be crap that just simply picking them is like a taunt to the other player, as if to say "I can beat you even with this weak character".
And TBH I've never played the Tekken games. So I don't know too much about it and I'm not sure if what I said also applies there as it does to the MVC games.

Ryota Nitsuma should quit from Capcom instead of Keiji Inafune. What the hell he was thinking avoiding a beloved character like Megaman or X, his silly decisions made unhappy too much people. Capcom will not be the same anymore. I'm too dissapointed and I'm going to start playing other kind of games but no new capcom games anymore. "Updates" have been done by every company, like it or not. Most "updates" don't even give you the option of DLC or disc, they usually stick to disc releases. It's a good way to get a ton of money out of a franchise. Capcom isn't the only company guilty or updating their older games. Atleast UMVC3 is 40 dollars unlike Halo or Madden - 60$.
2 things. This game is 40$. Jill and Shuma are worth 5 dollars and with 12 characters that would come to a total of 60 dollars, not to mention all the new moves, and tweaks.

@neon6 Of Course I totally see what you are getting at here, but the game is too big with all the new tweaks, moves, health bar, and balances that it would take alot of money and time to put it all into one single download, this is why Capcom does this. The expansions they make are too game changing to be placed into DLC, and if we look at SF4 AE, that only added 4 characters and just some tiny balancing, so that was totally reasonable to put out as DLC.

Although you, adding new characters is like adding guns in COD, the difference being that in this game they are much more independent, as for COD, if you're good with one assault rifle you can probably manage with any other ones.

@frozrn You're assuming people take this game so seriously and would want to download every character to stay ahead of the competition in tournament settings (rather than just play as their favorite characters for fun) when in reality people carry few mains no matter how large a fighting game's roster is. Capcom is no stranger to milking a franchise with all the Street Fighter 2 versions they've released, but what no one remembers is that gamers hated on Capcom back then as well. Just because they did it back in the 90's doesn't make it ok for 2011. Besides.. all those Street Fighter 2's were released before the age of DLC. "Updates" have been done by every company, like it or not. Most "updates" don't even give you the option of DLC or disc, they usually stick to disc releases. It's a good way to get a ton of money out of a franchise. Capcom isn't the only company guilty or updating their older games. Atleast UMVC3 is 40 dollars unlike Halo or Madden - 60$.

@neon6 Of Course I totally see what you are getting at here, but the game is too big with all the new tweaks, moves, health bar, and balances that it would take alot of money and time to put it all into one single download, this is why Capcom does this. The expansions they make are too game changing to be placed into DLC, and if we look at SF4 AE, that only added 4 characters and just some tiny balancing, so that was totally reasonable to put out as DLC.

I personally really enjoyed MVC3 and I still play it to this day. The previous games had characters a lot of people didn't know beforehand. And guess what? Several of them became popular due to same reasons that these new additions could. And look at She-Hulk & Taskmaster. People were complaining about them getting in over other characters and now they're two of the most popular ones.
