  • So they killed the 2001 concept microbus and made it into a minivan, that's what need another same old minivan

  • Not a camper, not a van, not a bus. A cool, modern, plastc, suburbian mpv yes, but under no circumstances a replacement for the Bulli. Using the name is blasfemi!!

  • Not what I would want, it is a car not a camper/kombi, so what is the point?

  • So far off the mark. 2001 concept microbus is what the demographic wants. This would make a good stand alone but to say its in the tradition of the T1,T2 and T3 is way off. Can't camp in it. Does not have that utility flair that the old ones had. Like I said as a new line, might make it. Calling it a microbus revival dooms it.

  • Its amazing how companies are OUT-OF-TOUCH with their Customer's "FAN BASED" these day's.They ( Volkswagen ) MISSED THE MARK BY A MILE ! The BEST Idea so far was the V W Future Camper Concept, ( I call it the "Turtle"), I Truly Believe it would be a "Best" Seller.

  • The 2001 Microbus concept was better. But I still like this. Someone made the comment that it's just another Nissan Cube. True, it seems to be similar in concept to the Cube or the Scion Xb. And there nothing wrong with that type of vehicle. They are fun and practical. This just looks a lot better than those other two. The looks are right. But I'd really have something more like 2001 concept vehicle.

    What I'm really waiting for is a modern Karmann-Ghia. But I'm not holding my breath.

  • had the Bulli the size of a Mini-Cooper back then ?  Very nice, but: my Father could take the whole family to holyday; when I buy this car, I have to leave the children at home and drive with woman only ?!?

  • I like it, but I'm not sold on this as a legitimate replacement to the microbus. I really hope they build this don't get me wrong, but I would hope they would make a stretched wheelbase version, that's just a bit taller in addition to this little guy. They can do what they want with the name, go ahead and call this the microbus and the bigger version the "macrobus" maybe? Volkswagon is making a new plant in America, they should build it here to keep cost reasonable. Like if you agree!

  • @MrJPBradbury Yeah I agree...i'd also like to see the front face of the bus look more rounded like the classic 50's/60's era...Its just a tad too modern looking to replace the old V front end buses...

  • Anyone remember the Concept 1? The public reaction was so large VW had to put it into production as the New Beetle. Anyone that wants to see cars like this in production should tell VW. And make sure you mention the electric option when you do or it will only come with internal combustion.

  • I like that they're going in the electric car direction, but--

    I miss the flat-nose profile of the classic microbus (and, yes, I know it's not really a safe option to carry the engine in the boot).

    I miss the more customisable feel of the old microbus. This looks very locked-in.

  • @phantasmbunny Why isn't it safe? Engines are a huge obstacle to designing a efficient crumple zone on a car. A large amount of engineering has to go into keeping the engine out of the passenger compartment. If this is sold as an electric car then I would think the way to go would be in-wheel motors. That would maximize interior space.

  • @marshgre I don't think it's much of an issue if the driver is accustomed to driving (or learned how to drive on) a rear-engine vehicle, but most drivers who have always driven front-engine vehicles have a difficult time safely operating an auto with all the weight at the back. It's the shift in balance. The other argument I've heard against them (though I don't know how much credence to give it) is the danger of rear-impact fires.

  • @dragonamt Because this isn't a proper microbus. It needs a boxer motor, or electric I guess, in the REAR, round headlights, and a flatter front.

  • @robotmonkey73 they are allowed to do something new, it was just 'inspired' by the microbus, they didn't call it the microbus concept, they called it the bully concept. W/e to each his own. I am clearly not VW's target demographic anyway since they don't cater to an audience with similar tastes to my own.

  • @dragonamt Actually, "Bulli" is what the original bus was called in Germany so what they are doing is naming a car something that it isn't. The original Up! concept was rear engined with a boxer, why can't this? This is even WORSE than the new beetle, at least the new beetle has "new" in font of it and has round headlights.

  • @robotmonkey73 hmm. ok. Well it is a poor imitation, so they ought to name it something else, like Ford didn't name the Flex the 'new woody' because it was only a very loose inspiration. I still like it, but it clearly isn't true reincarnation of the Microbus, of course if it was it would have to have an air cooled boxer engine which would be pretty fail these days XD

  • Would like a high top version of Bulli with scenicruiser skylights, small auxillary multifuel engine in addition to the electric motor, and plug-in recharging, making it both a city car and long distance ride. Europe has ecologically friendly cars that can carry a refrigerator and get 60 mpg, while we get the ill-conceived junk from Honda and Toyota. Buy any car other than a Nippon one; the whales and porpoises will thank you for it.
