how can there be a driver shortage if theres not enough freight to go around to the folks who are out there now? I hear stories all the time about drivers having to sit for 3-4 days at a time waiting for loads.
I have cdl, but only have 2 month of experience with swift transport. I'am not willing to work this hard job to only make 26-28K a year. I rather stay home and make like 20k working in wall mart. Until every truck driver will make at least 70K a year, shortage of professional truck drivers will only grow.
@schneiderjobs I would argree to drive for anyone, the problem is that this industry does not pay enough money. 0.28 to 0.3 cents per mile is way to low, even for anyone who just came out of driving school.
@Krasvchik871 I am not sure where you got those numbers but we have a variety of job opportunities that pay differently depending on the job, location and experience of the driver. We also have some jobs that are salary. I would encourage you to check out jobs in your area or call 1-800-44-PRIDE. -Jim
There IS a shortage of truck drivers willing to work a rotating, tiring schedule thru the 24-hour clock cycle, rather than a fixed sleep cycle.
There IS a shortage of truck drivers willing to work for pennies per mile. At $0.35/mile, 2500 miles/week (130,000 miles/year) working 70 hours/week works out to be only $12/hour. That's not much when you have to be away from home for weeks at a time, driving in inclement weather, in high density traffic, etc.
I have Experience driving OTR & Have Hauled Tanker, Recently paid for a refresher course and am a safe driver with a valid CDL. I talked to a recruiter at Schneider and all she wanted to talk about was a speeding ticket and a misdemeanor that happened 5 years ago. Do truck driving skills Matter? I would like to drive for Schneider Out of Fontana CA . I am a Veteran and I am single. I thought going back into driving truck would be a sure thing?
There is no shortage of truck drivers, just a shortage of good trucking companies to drive for. You are nothing more than a number to any company and they treat you as such, this is why companies will tell you that there is a shortage because there are very few experienced drivers who will bend over and take the abuse day in and day out.. When you stop and think about it.Truck driving schools are throwing em out the door like mad so how could there be a shortage.
When you hire where I live I will come to work for you, yet with a hiring freeze that wont serve that state of Maine any higher than the greater area of Portland, Maine you are excluding a valuable work force that could be driving for you.
