  • F*cking Epic !!!!

  • I knew the vocalist about ten years ago. Johnny Lamb (2nd from right). He co-owned a pub I frequented at that time off the Strand. He sang the 'A'-side as well. Nice bloke.

  • top notch example of freakbeat

  • And it was on the B side...

  • i listen to family dogg radio. they play nothin but 60s underground. great song

  • Little Steven played this tonight. It's the second time I heard him do this

  • Meeksville Sound!

  • Just sold for £590.00 on ebay-I was £583.80 short as that's all I could afford!

  • Awsome great band! I am a '60s psychedelic fan or fanatic, but I never heard about them. VERY HAPPY to hear this music! Thanks Bro.

  • dat guitar...

  • The Horrors Cover of this is pretty sweet though, even grimier prehaps

  • @Widleykidz And played wrong.

  • @rugshort True True, Joe Meek may never be surpassed

  • awesome

  • Further to my comment below: the record eventually sold for £666.66 on eBay! For one 45 rpm single, amazing. Keep a look out for a good copy at your local car boot sale....

  • I just heard this record for the first time, as it is currently subject to intense bidding on eBay. It's currently up to £200! Never heard it in the 60s so it was probably never played on radio even at that time. I like it and can see whay it's got such a good press here. Steve Howe was a founder member of the Syndicats, I see - he went on to join Yes and Asia, of course. Great guitar sound, Joe Meek was a master producer.

  • how dirty is that guitar!

  • Fuck yes. Joe Meek it's still the best producer!!!

  • i always walk alone

  • Unbelievable that this was made in 1965. ¡Meeksville Sound!

  • This is awesome.

  • A scatter-shot of sound that hits all areas of the brain.

  • it's weird. i prefer the horrors version because half way through this one i get annoyed with it. no offence, these people rule. it's just a matter of personal preference, and i like the differenc of the other version.

  • @TheHunty2010 I get annoyed with the Horrors because they go into the song too early and the singer and the whole band are confused and miss their cue.

  • freakbeat is the shit.

  • Sheer brilliance!!

  • Makes you wonder where Pete Townshend got the idea for the ending of "My Generation"....

  • i had never heard this before brian matthews sounds of the sixties last saturday, radio 1 eat your heart out! blew me away, cant stop playing it, freakout guitar or what ,im 52 and had never heard it before, shit

  • a bit good eh! never heard it befoe last saturdays brian matthews sounds of the sixties on radio 2, radio 1 eat your heart out, cant stop playing it ,guitar freakout supreme, the very idea that i have reached the age of 52 without hearing it pains me!

  • the horrors Crawdaddy Simone ?????? who song :S original ??

  • no no, this song is not the original. i mean its from 1960s. and the horrors started their career back in 1921 you know.

  • the horrors started in 2006 idiot

  • @CheASeyBUDE

theres something called irony you damne dushbag!

  • @JackBauerin what?

  • @sk8Piti haha the syndicats is. the horrors came 40 yrs later

  • They didn't claim it as their own , tho.

  • They're just following tradition.. Rock 'n' roll is all about theft

  • Freaktastic daddio.

  • i love it !

  • giving freakbeat airtime would not only be risky to radio, it would also put pressure on the listener to actually listen to the f***ing music and lyrics. with the odd exception, radio stations air nothing more than background shite, and if they dared to air a song such as this, they run the risk of the listeners demanding more....AND THAT IS NOT FINANCIALLY VIABLE. RADIO IS DEAD COS IT LACKS SOUL, GUTS AND THE VERY LIFEBLOOD OF A RADIO STATIONS VERY PURPOSE... IT LACKS GREAT MUSIC.

  • thats exactly what i think everyday im in the car. thank you.

  • Well said!!

  • very strange. the best music should be played. money makes the world turn..... nobhead's !

  • @thebradfordinvasion1 Damn straight!!!! Radio feeds you what THEY want you to hear NOT what YOU want to hear!!!!

  • @thebradfordinvasion1 i actually heard this radio driving home yesterday, hense why i looked it up :)

  • Great Guitars and Vocal....unforgettable..!! ;-)))´

  • i have changed my opinion on that, this is better

  • lawlz. yeah.

  • Comment removed

  • This should be the test at heavens gate. either you get it or your insignificant brain and ass dies...

  • another user recommended this to me!Saw cant Judge a book by them-A Bit Yardbirdish!

  • I know Steve Howe played in this band. Is he on this record. Sounds like him.

  • Got both Nuggets Box Sets. Absaolutely mandatory for anyone who wants to truly understand the breadth of the 1960s. This is about 20 or more years ahead of its time,,, the guitar breaks are mind boggling....

  • Couldn't agree more! It's amazing how many GREAT 60's songs never have seen the light of day on the radio. And the guitar work back then blows away anything seen today!

  • Yeah, I agree with ya, Sandbagger300. It's strange to think about it.

  • @Sandbagger300 Hehe, thats my step dad. :D

  • @Sandbagger300

Actually this was played on "Sounds of The 60's" on BBC radio 2 about 2 years ago.

  • Been listening and loving this song for so long. If you guys like this you should download or even better BUY the nuggets collections. But since you found you'r way here, you proberbly know that already. :)

  • this is on the trailer for the film telstar about joe meek, can't wait for it

also the horrors version is pretty insane

  • The ending was nuts!!!

  • If You enjoy this one, get a copy of the 7" from Crawdaddy simone( the band) and purely enjoy.

  • great tune.....all mods con

  • i love the horrors version yeah!!!

  • the horrors screw this great song!!!

the original its so much better

  • es buena la de los horrors pero

    es mucho mejor esta

  • Heard Mark Lammar play this on his Radio 2 show, driving home from work one night....almost put the bloody car in the ditch....WHAT AN AWESOME TRACK

  • Just to remind everyone that 'Crawdaddy' is now available on a recently released CD compliation,'THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE!',an indication that the song is gaining in reputation.About time too!!

  • and its been on nuggets for a long time

  • @JFBridge It was released in another compilation years ago I just can't recall which one.

  • my brother Jeff co-wrote this song....

he is the keyboard player, and the group used to rehearse at our house in the 1960's. Those were the days!

  • @littlexine It so bugs me how the Horrors screw the song.

  • Yeahhh!

  • Great post. Who is on guitar? Howe?

  • Ray fenwick

  • ahhh looove this song!

  • The Horrors version is mint and so is this, they wouldn't have wanted to cover it otherwise. Peeps should stop with the whole covers can't be better crap, they both have their own merits!

  • I love The Horrors version as well, it has a more modern energy to it and they have amazing stage presence. However this is timeless and has such a rich sound to it that makes it brilliant

  • Few songs are better. Always a kick to hear!

  • Whell Whell.....this IS alouwed ,

thanks a bunch....NOT, you lot of deseased

    nitpicker video removers,

Your back catalogue ain't gonna sell

    for shite....I swear to you.

  • This is classic, no need for Ritchie where Ray Fenwick is concerned, a guitar player that later dared suit Ian Gillan as well, a tastefull player in his own right.

Thanks for sharing, all Meek stuff is worthy.

  • what did Joe meek have to do with this? did he wright it or something?

  • he produced it

  • i can't decide between the original and the horror's cover. they're both AMAZING.

  • Think carefully, because if you get the answer wrong, your ears will be removed. Even the Horrors know the answer

  • The Horrors play the song wrong, they go to the chord change before "He always walks alone" and not straight after. It makes a big difference. Their's sounds fake.

  • Yeah, that's true. However, I still like it. I think it was a pretty good cover. But I decided I like the original better :D. Because it's the original. And no cover can ever be as good as the original, of course. I don't know what I was thinking.

  • All along the watchtower, a Bob Dylan song covered by Hendrix is better than the original.

  • i think they are both equal. they both have different feels to them. Dylan's is more country rock n' roll and hendrix's is more psyhcodelic

  • A lot of originals were not as good as some of their covers.. like louie louie.. i know a lot of covers and the original doesn't beat everyone of 'm

  • Motorhead's Louie Louie is a classic, the 7" also had a great B-side, I wish still had it..., was it TEAR YOU DOWN?

  • Paul Anka - Diana vs Alton Ellis - Diana

The Early Reggae version of Alton beats the crap out of the original (seems to be 2 versions, i'm talking about the one on the other side of English talk, not the one that's on youtube atm).

A lot of Rocksteady & Early Reggae reggae covers soul/motown/southern soul songs. Some of them are actually better (but most of the time way different then the original).

  • the cover of the man who sold the world was amazing much better than the original

all the rules have an honorable exeption

i prefer the version of the horrors but is a free world

  • Ahh I suppose that's true. But at the same time, isn't music arbitrary? Who decides if the cover or the original is better? I don't necessarily always prefer the original...however, the original has extra merits because those performers are the ones who created the original song, which really, is the part that requires the music creativity. And, to scribepoe, I would've listened to your arguments more if you hadn't said "Peeps". :)

  • peeps??

  • I'm sorry, I just have a personal aversion to the word "peeps". Just a little pet peeve of mine :P

  • but i didn't say people hahaha however i think that each person has a personal opinion in music so there is no problem XD

  • lol no YOU didn't say people, but if you reread my comment, I said "And, to scribepoe" who did say peeps

  • sorry!! hahaha sometimes i'm idiot o.0 but you are right hahaha

  • one of my personal meek favourites, this tune was rated number one top uk freakbeat track of all time some years ago in record collector mag & how right there are.

  • Ah! The Horrors covered this on their debut EP. This is better!!

  • SNARE ROLL!!!!!

  • fucking magic song...absolutely wild. Didn't Richie Blackmore play guitar with these guys.

Joe Meek..freaky genius, still amazes me when I listen to his stuff to this day.

  • No Ritchie,man...He wished.

    But you're right.

    Meek shall inherrit the world.

  • This is so good! Go, Johnny Lamb!

  • Two words:

    Fucking. Brilliant.

  • bloody awesome
