How do you know it's not them? The title says it's a demo version, without all the studio tricks they pull to make it sound good. Also there a lots of Petrucci vids with him playing exactly like this! Think about it. This is what your heroes sound like at rehearsals.

Dude, have you ever recorded something in a professional studio? All the Protools stuff, plugins and outboard gear they use nowadays makes a HUGE difference on how things sound compared to rehearsals. I know for a fact that JPs solos get speed up using a certain software, that JLB vocals get pitch-shifted with Autotune and that MPs drums get triggered.

i have just finished recording an album in a pro-tools studio, and maybe tru. but there is no such software to correct any mistakes mp plays live, minimal for the others (which i doubt they bother with having seen them live) - and they sure play it better than that. not having a go at these guys but the difference in musicianship is massive.

The solo(Riff? Breakdown?? Bridge??) at 02:27 kinda reminds me of a part in "The Dance of Eternety", but it does fit quite nicely in this masterpiece.
