@mattwo7 It's pretty much a mixture of all sorts of video and arcade games (Shenmue, Zero Wing, DDR, etc.). The fonts themselves come straight from various arcade games such as Art of Fighting 2 and Panic Bomber.

But to answer your question, the character you select is used outside of all the QTE parts excluding the bonus level and is used later in the high score screen to show which pony you represent.

@schnockerface The two main programs I used were Vegas 10 and Photoshop. Vegas was used to put everything together and put in the effects such as the scanlines and TV look. I used Photoshop for creating all of the custom elements such as the buttons and bgs. Honestly, Vegas really isn't too hard to learn if you put some time into it and the same can be said for Photoshop if you just stick with making simple things. There are also a lot of tutorials online for both programs if you need them.
