It's insane how this is a more recent album yet they haven't turned into today's garbage like most old bands that try to stay cureent. It's still essential Cure!
Yeah this is how it ends After all this time Everything just fades away Worn-out and empty and all alone With nothing left to say Oh it's all too big to make a difference It's all too wrong to make it right Yeah everything is too unfair Everything too much to bear He doesn't have the strength left for the fight i can truly say with all my heart i feel this exact way on an everyday basis!
not sure if this song is about kurt cobain and whatnot, but it is definitely about how one succumbs to how hard life can truly be, and how after battly after battle, one finally gives up. whatever a persons "drug" is..ie..actual drugs, music, sex, alcohol, pain...whatever..the person just gets to a point in their life where no matter what they say or do, or how hard they try...nothing in the end matters. so they escape into their drug so they can get away from the real pain they have in life
@THECURELOST13 Sorry if I implied that you said it was "only for drunks". I didn't mean that, I was just trying to supply some alternate thought to the song.

Despite critics, for me, this is one of the best albums from The Cure. This song in particular is the true story of my alcoholic cousin who always loved The Cure. His addiction led him to an horrible accident and now he is disabled.
I know, right? Yes this album is AMAZING! This song is reality for so many people, whether the drug of choice is heroine, alcohol, food, even love! Only Robert could have composed such a horrific/depressing matter so beautifully!
@THECURELOST13 You don't have to be an alcoholic to feel this way. You don't have to be addicted to anything but your chemicals of emotionless feeling to feel this song in a literal sense. Just letting you know.
@simionTheOne....I agree!!! Lol Tolhurst deserves recognition also. Lol played a key part in The Cure. I don't care if people disagree...It's a fact. I love Lol's work.
and I thought I was the only one who felt that way....he puts thoughts into words, thats not easily done for some of us...in the song he says "HE" but it can also be "SHE"
This song hits me like a lightning bolt and chills me to the bone. Perfection at its finest. If I park it for awhile I still get goosebumps just like the first time. I like many cure songs....this one stands out, and there are others, so...ENJOY!!!
I'm a very VERY longtime Cure fan. and when WMS first came out, i was like "ehh, its ok'. but now, several years later its my favorite. This being the one song that i love the most. Simons bass playing is remarkable. Not sure if its about Lol or not, but i love it. Just wish i could find the bass tab for this and Treasure. :)
I love the fact that The Cure have a song for every emotion. And how they kind of have a pattern for making an album emotional and then the next will be a happy album.
I believe this song is written about Lol Tolhurst, former cure bandmember that was fired in 1989 and then sued Robert for royalties and lost in 1994. Lol was an alcoholic.
wms is the one of the most underrated cure albums ever. i like it more then bloodflowers. its damn beautiful, mostly driven by robert adoreable ovation 12 string acoustic sound.
Actually, WMS is not underrated but in fact widely dismissed by Cure fans as their worst album. But it is not true. WMS is a wonderful album. It's diverse in its musical arrangements and their only album to feature orchestrated sounds. In my opinion, it also has got Simon Gallup's most versatile bass playing as well (different from his usual style of bass playing). I think this album did influence 'Bloodflowers' to an extent (sound-wise).
At last, this song is here again and the long wait is now over..i really love this song so much because it touches me for some reason and it can really relate to a lot of people..the cure did an awesome job when they created this song..NUMB is one of the best songs of The Cure..Kudos!

A song partly to do with Kurt Cobain"s suicide. Such a sad song :(
1969Brookie 1 year ago
@1969Brookie, I didn't know that. Faith No More's Ricochet and Van Halen's Don't Tell Me What Love Can Do are also about Cobain's death too.
In Van Halen's case, it's ironic because Eddie had once met Nirvana and they had a funny dispute.
