I discovered Rypdal music in the early 1980s and it does not cease to move me with its profound depth and originality. This piece, as with many other mutates, grows, shifts but remains unified in its beauty. Very original soundscapes.

A couple of decades ago, Manfred Eicher's ECM label had already surpassed any American record label's commitment to an artist being allowed their full range expression. It's now very unlikely that any American label will ever achieve the diversity of the ECM Records discography.

Waves (album w/original version of Per Ulv) was one of the first Rypdal albums I bought, and I love it. Every song had so much personality - and I had no idea this one had to with a cartoon I'd seen a million times growing up; that makes it even better. And it's cool to hear it live in the studio - definitely more aggressive. Mikkelborg is one of my favorite trumpet players, but, being in America, I've found very few records with him on them; this helps!
