However in SE Asia, especially in Vietnam, Laos and Thailand, it is considered derogatory as these peoples degrade Hmong people by adapting the Chinese word for Miao to Meo, like the call of a cat.

She has a great voice but I'm not sure if her back ground is the same as the Hmong in America. There are perhaps dozens of Miao tribes in China. I don't think all of them identify specifically with the Hmong in America. If she can sing in the traditional Hmong language like Mee Hang (another Chinese Miao singer) then it would change my perspective.
