watch him play in the late 80s. Just watch a game. I don't know if it's because he played soccer in his youth or what but I've never seen a man that big change direction in the post so quickly. He could take a step 5 feet closer to the basket then take it back in a second.
Hakeem the greatest center of all-time ppl say its kareem abdul jabar but i dont think its fair to put him ahead cuz at the time when Kareem played for the Bucks he was like the 1st of his Kind a 7footer center soo he had an unfair advantage...hakeem dominated shaq, ewing, and david robinson which are all hall of famers!
His free foot was his left foot, meaning his right foot is the pivot. He took a step with his left (free) foot then another one with his right (pivot) foot, and since he did in in a standstill position without dribble the Dream traveled.
@xdachinamanx It wasn't a travel. Pivot was established first, then one dribble broke the pivot and allowed an extra step and another pivot. The footwork was amazing...plain and simple. No one does it better.
He dunked like 10 times every game. Best moves ever for a center. He is unstoppable on the boards and an amazing shot blocker. One season he got over 200 steals. Agile as a point guard yet strong as a center. Second best center. Only bill russell was better. Wilt was third.
Hakeem is easily one of the most versatile and gifted centers of all time. I remember as a youngster wonderin how a 7 footer could be so quick and agile on his feet, in the post. Truly a great player
ur stupid........shaq in his prime was golden......hakeem too...but u can say shaq was dominant...i do think hakeem iz the greatest center...but dnt deny tht shaq was more so dominant...hakeem was just more of a full package
If you watch young Hakeem play, his post moves and footwork were INSANELY fast. He would cover 6 feet of ground in a split second with a single pivot.
one of the best centers in terms of skills in offense and defense.. nice dream shake and counter moves, best for a 7"0 center and for a true center besides shaquille o'neal and abdul jabbar..
it looked normal . were you thinking that he missed his own shot and then off one step got that much air ? it was a different guy that missed . the first time it looked cool cus i thought he got his own miss with no revving up
The Dream is the greatest center in the modern era. There are times wen Shaq was a more dominate player, but Hakeem had to face Robinson, Ewing, and Shaq. Wen Shaq won titles, it was Tim Duncan and that's it. Hakeem the Dream!
thank u!!!!! shaq no doubt was more dominant!!!! hakeem is better...but not as fully dominant.....no one ever wanted to drive the ball in on hakeem ...especially shaq!
One of the most underrated players ever. I have him ahead of Shaq as all-time best centers ever. They don't remember him like they should. Great, great, player.
You said it all. Good call. I am from Franca, São Paulo, Brazil and have been a huge NBA fan since 1997 (I was 9 back then). A better center is yet to come to the league.
@godfather4377 Agreed. I grew up in Houston and had the fortune of watching him in his prime. The early-mid 90's was the NBA's golden era for dominant centers and Olajuwon dominated them all. How many people remember that Taco Bell was gonna sponsor a 1-on-1 between Shaq and Olajuwon and show it on pay-per-view? Olajuwon would've murdered him.
@whiteflash1323 Yes I definitely remember that...Hakeem was the most finesse and the most diverse skilful player to ever play. We desperately need another type of Hakeem in the league
His creativity was unmatched. His skillset was simply spectacular. He could do it all 1st Team Defense, Defensive player of the year, all time shot blocker with no one even within 1,000 blocks, top 8 all time steals( which is crazy as he was a center for crying out loud).
This guy could kill you with his power, his turn around jumper, his Dream Shake, his spinning drive that would lead to easy buckets, his fade away from 20 ft from the basket, his passing.... He truly was THE DREAM!!!
