Earthlike my foot why the hell do we have to assume that other planets have to be similar to ours to have life?

@Zurround100 It doesn't HAVE to be Earthlike, however it is likely that life on Earth would show us some basic fundamental necessities of life elsewhere. It is more technically correct to use the term "habitable" but a planet being "Earthlike" would indicate that the same kind of life that we KNOW happens here could just as easily there as well. Just going off of the little information that we do for certain.

my theory is there are planets in the universe similar to earth with atmosphere & life that could be ten times the size of earth or maybe smaller than earth. Earth is not the only planet that can have an atmosphere and gravity. Where ever they are though they are well beyond our reach and we are never liekly to find out. the thought of there could be planets our there like earth with life 20 times the size of earth. there could be millions of earth like planets in the universe

Why does the narrator of this NovaScienceNow segment sound like a kindergarten teacher speaking to five-year olds? Does even NovaScienceNow think we, the audience, are THAT dumb and clueless? What a sad state of affairs the USA is in today. EVERYTHING has to be dumbed down. I am so discouraged and dismayed at how low we have gone down to in terms of education in America.

The average IQ in America is a dismal 98

80 and below is thought to be slow. Consider how many 80's and lower it takes to get a 98 average down from just 120. The U.S. ranks 17th among other countries for smarts. Lots of European nations are ahead of us. Can you tell? You're discouraged and dismayed and I'm disgusted.

Yes and very well said, melro52. I have seen it this way too for many years now. I remember TV used to put on so many good science shows and documentaries even on network channels not just PBS. There used to be "Mr. Wizard", CNN had "Science & Technology Week" and "FutureWatch" and some other science-covering shows on CNN that I can't remember any longer since it's been so long since any science-based shows have even seen the light of day.

[2] Today, the sheeple are kept dumb by design by the power elite, corporatists, with so-called "reality shows". I say this is by design so that the sheeple are easier to manage if they are kept dumb, barefoot and pregnant (so to speak). If the sheeple actually thought, they might rise up and demand a fairer deal in the social contract.

[3] I have to hand it to the power elites at the top of the pyramid. They have controlling the masses down to a science nowadays, a science that only THEY get to reap the benefits of, of course. By having huge police forces (which even carry military assault rifles in the trunks of their cruisers now) and with huge standing armies that can put down insurrections should the police forces fail, they guarantee that the sheeple are kept in line.

[4] Plus, they control mass media and thus control the message that the sheeple are fed. Whoever controls the message controls reality or at least what is perceived to be reality. George Orwell in "1984" said, "He that controls the past controls the future and he that controls the present, controls the past".

[5] I also believe that democracy and free elections are just an illusion. Its all a charade to give the appearance that the sheeple are living in a society wherein they pick the leaders that govern over them. I think elites put in a puppet through which they then rule.

Anymore, of course. There are far too many deep, deep pocket lobbyists to ensure whatever we the people elect to do will not happen. Get rid of the lobbyists and the politicians will get a very clear message of what we the people really want or not get re-elected again.

Well, in my opinion, they don't care what "we the people" want or demand that they do. They're in politics for themselves, for their own personal gain, at this point. None of them are going to upset the apple cart and risk losing their bribe money, or worse have the cabal pick someone else to be put in their place that will do their unquestioned bidding.

I have to add "Don't forget the drugs" to control the sheeple also. It's very important we get everyone on at least one pill if not many for control purposes. I think the biggest plot however is to keep the prices a little higher than the salaries. When sheeple are busy working two jobs, raising families, they don't have time to find the truth or remember anything. They get rundown, the pills start...It's a whole disintegration process.

This is a very sneaky thing that they started doing around 1970. UMass economics professor Richard Wolff details this in "Capitalism Hits The Fan". Search for it on Google. It shows videos here on YouTube and a longer lecture he gave on it available on Google Video.
