I have Pokemon Firered and leafgreen, and my save files are still there since year one of getting it. :3

@Blazikenpwnsyou Fire Red and Leaf Green have different kinds of back-up batteries from Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal. Even if the internal battery did run out in your games, it's likely it would not affect your save file.

i never did get pokemon gold and silver when it first came out but i did find one at a used game store in november! they even changed the battery for me! Im loving this game so much right now.
