Just look at how petrucci does it. Whnever i see John Myung play it almost seems like his hand bounces up to a completely straight position. Dunno if this is some special thing in his playing or just a technique flaw.

Systematic Chaos gets way to many negative reviews, and so does black Clouds and Silver Linings. Both amazing albums, not watered down or dull, very creative and overall badass. A Dramatic Turn of events may have not been as good, but cmon, they lost Portnoy, they did the best they could and it came out pretty awesome.

They then sent them to Mangini who came in and recorded the drum tracks while adding some bits and pieces here and there. Portnoy played no part in this but then again, Mangini didn't get to contribute to the writing process either. The album was written without a drummer.
