  • Actually what he said about Beethoven and Mozart isn't true. They both had teachers in early life and gave a lot of time to practicing writing, performing, etc. It's a fantasy that people can just "play" at anything. In real life, even the gifted have to put in work to develop their gift.

  • @Ellie5621 but you have to recognize that they still had a feel and view for what they did; they did what most people could not ever do in their lifetime with an eternity of time... Even Will put work into learning, but he played at a different pace than everyone else...

  • This is an actual condition to where the part of your brain that does math and things of that nature or even memory moves to the part of your brain that controls movement or breathing making anything seem second nature!

  • BUT I STUDY OCHEM FOR FUN...

  • You sound very angry

  • FRUSTRATION UNLEASHED

  • Yup, I'm one of those intelligent people.

And what's so special about "photographic memory"??

I have VIDEOgraphic memory, doesn't anyone else?? I mean, how to the fuck do people remember things like what they did at a certain point in time? Does their experience get logged into their brains as SCRIPTS?

  • *sigh* Sometimes. It depends on what your experience is in the situation. If there was good you can probably channel in clarity more. Who wants to remember the bad? Sometimes the bad is the good in certain situations which is fucked but if going by then gallows humor is all there was, you make do. Sad fact of life. The important thing is to take those scripted memories and utilize them for whatever your strengths are. Whatever you like doing and can pursue as a career. Experiences count 4 alot!

  • @2528997 i know what youy mean exactly. Im a firm believer its all in how youre raised. i can remember scenes or videos VERY well my visual memory is probably my best attribute in intelligence.

  • @2528997 the more proper term would be eidetic memory, and it's not necessarily photographic, but more of the fact that people are able to process massive amounts of information at once... Don't get a blown ego over your "videographic" memory there...

  • @MrSsshin Don't get jealous over it. For a while I assumed that I was just like everyone else. I thought and still think that, that is what memories ARE. Mini videos of scenes that have played out in our lives. Much like dreams.

So when people use the term "photographic memeroy", I think, "what's so special about that??".

I think everyone can be intelligent, but some of our upbringings prevent that side of us coming out.

  • <.< Yeah and it didn't hurt they got talked up to the studios by Kevin Smith. *shrugs* j/k I'm just saying. B)-~~~

  • I tried this line on a chick once.

I said I probably couldnt paint you a picture or hit the ball out of fenway.

But when it came to my cock I just know hot to play.

So lets go home and have you play with it

  • She should have told him he should learn how to play the piano

  • lmao, certainly right there..

    \/

  • this is the first and last time a man can talk about MATH and get ass.

  • lol... good one

  • @Mist0rWiggles That's why Will Hunting is good. B)-~~~

  • Brilliant script

  • Matt Damon and Ben Affleck actually wrote it. And they got an Oscar for it.

  • I really like that piano analogy.

Such great writing by the man who said it.

  • for the love of god, first of all, this movie it is about entertainment; the point is compare been smart and have emotional needs, you miss the whole point this is not about the facts, it is about compare the differences between IQ and EQ, but well, after I see you answer, I don't expect any smart answer...peace!!

  • Stop being a fucking smart-ass fanny

  • let me quote from the movie the girl next door, "it's like a gift. it's like i can't control it."

  • maybe 'we' want believe that there aren't people who arent 'uomo universalis', because 'we' have to relativate, so our own capabilities don't seem pathetic...and we get some good night rest...

  • I never liked this scene because it implies that Mozart (and Beethoven) didn't become geniuses at what they did by practicing for years and years. Mozart himself said (translated) "The idea that I don't work is a myth. I write as a sow pisses." Just like being 6'10" doesn't make you a great basketball player, having a huge IQ does NOT make you an automatic great musician or mathematician. It's simple potential that you have to make use of by PRACTICING relentlessly, for years.

  • Aye true, but as with all things if people knew how truly gifted you are at something chances are you may become an attraction at a freak show.

  • Ramanujan (google his name)

I think he means that he learns faster (more rendement)

the first three years of my study (scientific university I read my books (500 -1500 pag.) 1 or 2 days before making the tests (without going to college) and I had good grades... But I agree you have to do something to achieve something...

  • Which is closer to the tenor of the scene. All of the things will is speaking of (and everything when you boil right down to it) involve a certain level of patterns. Ramanujan, Mozart, Shakespeare, DiVinci....the carpenter who built your house. They all see (we all see) in paterns. With Mozart, it was with music. He could see a beautiful pattern in sound and through work, express it. Shakespeare saw beautiful patterns in words, and through his art, could express it.

  • Will and Ramanujan, see patterns in numbers. And that's what he's talking about. He sees beautiful and incomprehensible patterns in these maths. But outside of that he's just as limited as the rest of us. Can't hit the ball out of fenway...can't play the piano and can't paint a picture.

But he sees those numerical patterns.

  • is not about pattern in numbers, but academia in general. In regards your point, i should mention leonardo da vinci. "the art of the science, and the science in the art."

  • well put

  • Good scene.

    Love that movie.

  • I wish women would get turned on by my brain.

  • So do I, buddy. So do I.

  • you can use it to attract them...

  • Well, the lie of the scene is that she is attracted to his awesome intellect. The truth of the scene is she is attracted to an incredibly good-looking guy with an awesome intellect. Or maybe I'm just another bitter smart ugly guy :)

    Anyways, it's a great film.

  • @garethac81

And how do you feel about the smart ugly girls?

I see women as more open-minded.

My favorite man was brilliant- He wouldn't stand out in a crowd for looks--- but his brain was dazzling. Watch the movie "Adam" and you will understand what I mean.

This is weird to comment on a comment written 2 years ago.

  • What a bitch! The scriptwriters obviously got organic chemistry confused with Physical chemistry. Organic chemistry is awesome, but no one does physical chemistry for fun.

  • True. Matt Damon was an English major irl, so may he doesn't know the difference.

  • well at least looking and watching Minnie Driver a consolation

  • Keira Knightley, with her beautiful British accent, beautiful face, and sexy body, could have been perfect to play 'Skylar'. But since the film came out in 1997, Keira was only 11 or 12 years old at the time.

  • YES!! I looooove Keira Knightley! I want to marry her! She's exquisite and sexy in ALL her films. (Sigh) She blows away Minnie Driver anytime anywhere anyhow! Oh, I wonder if Keira would like a Chinese guy like me???

  • I love these close-up kissing scenes. you can almost feel it yourself...sljfksfng

  • YES, Matt is from Boston! So his accent is FINE. I'm not sure if he was dating Minnie at this time though. Is it just me or is she... not very... attractive. Everyone else seems to think she's beautiful.

  • i don't think she's that pretty either... but Matt's gorgeous!!

  • Plus... he has a really nice laugh. Really nice.

  • can someone post the scene where Will and Skylar break up. Thanks <3

  • Minnie's accent is beautiful...the writing is pretty good too...acting is pretty good...Matt's attempt at a Boston type accent is mediocre.

  • GOD, I HATE OCHEM.

  • well, at time Matt Damon dated Minnie Driver... maybe that's the reason because he seems to be so involved :-D
