  • I only watched a little bit and already Phantasmagoria is on two lists of mine: 'top ten great games' and 'games that scare the shit out of me'.

But still, I wish I had been an actor in this, as a little kid that appears cute but when you look closer I transform into a wax doll with creepy red eyes that goes around to random locations in the house scaring the shit out of Adrienne...

  • Love this game. it scared the crap out of me as a kid! lol

  • i think by 6:30 i wouldve been like "what're you waitin on? get movin!"

  • if I was being chased by a demon, i dont think id even have the STRENGTH to jump up and grab a pipe and climb across it, id end up getting ripped apart

  • where the hell are the police in this town?

  • @MeesterCrumpet what difference does it make? THEY couldnt have done anything. all the doors were sealed

  • I know what you're all thinking: why the laughing and hammy acting? Well, the subject matter is pure unleaded nightmare fuel. If this was played straight, it would be too scary and not as entertaining. Be honest, you all adore seeing Don's hamminess. :D

  • Why the laughing and hammy acting? Well, the subject matter is pure unleaded nightmare fuel. If this was played straight, it would be too scary and not as entertaining. Be honest, you all adore seeing Don's hamminess. :D

  • Adrienne really takes her time, doesn't she!

  • I think I was 13 when I played this game so long ago. I never liked horror movies, so this game scared the PISS outta me. Especially the ending.

  • 1:36 HUMP THAT GUY, AD :D

  • Rape!

  • the ending is really sad : * (

  • what a bitch she kills the demon with a spell but kills her husband

  • @nekuboy1 she needed an altar with a circle to do the spell, and she never had access to them until after she kills her husband, plus she needed the book, and getting the book gets you caught so theres no way of doing the spell without killing her husband, plus she would have been killed if she let her husband live

  • @nekuboy1

There's a better way to end this game in which you save Don as well..

  • @kimberdawn8604 o.o really? Can you tell me the way how to do it? o.O If thats true I'm very interested to know how to do this!

  • I want the people who made that door to make me one. Very sturdy. Good value for the money, I think, if demon strength is any indication of its usefulness.

  • In my opinion Don's laugh is annoying.

  • anyone know if the 2nd is any good? never played it wen i was young so their will be no nostalgia factor... but if its good... ace

  • If the chick knew a spell to seal the demon, why kill her Husband?

  • It is lolsy that she actually caused all of this to happen by going into the chapel and opening the box.

Oh and the only bad thing about the game is that it is very forgiving for the first six chapters and then you get punished for any wrong steps later on.

  • looks like don probably went to hell.

  • The Bugs Bunny sneaking music really adds to the atmosphere, don't you think?

  • The laugh made me pee in laughter.

  • How come when the husband dies by being stabbed in the heart but then it shows that some of the skin from his face is removed =S

  • @DoomedQuake You throw this sulfuric acid on him, eatting away some of his face.

  • @DoomedQuake well for one i think part of his face was already like that, but if not then;

he didn't just get stabbed in the heart, the machine/trap was a giant swinging axe-blade, so i think he got impaled or sliced, but not enough for him to litteraly get cut in half O_o

  • @AWSOME123235 the best game period. just finished this... whereas final fantasy 13, supposedly the best story teling game of recent years, remains unfinished and collects dust.

atmosphere and story and gore, this game is timeless FOOL

  • @GatecrasherSlim When i said that i didnt mean any offence i just meant with this period of time we have great graphix (i dont care if its spelled wrong). this game type did revolutionize gaming as we know it but it wasnt all that good of a game... i found it cheesy and un-entertaining compared to Halo 1, 2, and 3, of Call of duty MW2.

  • That laugh...THAT LAUGH.

    Don is Sierra's Kefka :D

  • roflmao! true!

  • How'd the axe not either push him into her or go right through him into her?

  • lolocaust

  • sickest horror game of the time, the music fucks with my head, i was like 10 watching my mom play this, maybe thats why im a little fucked up in the head

  • @Ahzmodius420X You obviously never played "Harvester."

  • Yes, I remember thinking, "Wow, the graphics" but there wasnt much in the way of gameplay though.

Back then there must have been a special school for CD-ROM acting... ahem.

  • After all the crazy, horrific things that she had been shocked by at that point, I wouldn't be surprised if she had come to expect the fucked up stuff that followed lol.

  • is there any actual, oh I don't know, GAMEPLAY!!!!

  • this is corny as fuck.

the music is horrible, and it's just gross.

    And I'm a '91 born.

  • That you're born 91 doesn't mean as much as if someone born 85 were to claim the same thing.

I was brought up with games like these, and then I loved them for their graphics. But nowdays graphics are alot better ^^

  • An awesome classic back when adventure games were popular. I remember playing this, very bloody!

  • please just pleast just stand still while I IMPALE WITH WITH AN AXE MUWHAHAHAHA (adrienne) =P

  • Czemu już nie robią tak świetnych gier, mam nadzieję że trójka kiedyś powstanie. Ta gra ma duszę:)

  • 4:48

    AAAAAND JAZZ HANDS

  • You need to put this into a perspective buddy.

We didnt have 30 inch lcd's back then, you had a 15 inch crt monitor.

People where used to a lot less.

Playing this in a dark room was an expirience that no developer has beaten since.

I was 6 when I played this, it was 1998 and it was one of the first pc games I played, and I still remember it to this day.

  • 8... duh, im from 1989

  • 1998?well...we had better, like resident evil, and I'm not judging this based on it's capability when it comes to horror,i'm talking about gameplay.i mean c'mon...the screen is the size of a game boy nad from what i've seen you basicly just have to click around.sorry but i'd rather play 3 hours of sonic than 30 minutes of this, and i'm not just being an asshole,i understand how people might feel nostalgic, but not all things that people liked as a kid have to be good, just look at the power rangers.

  • Not everyone had a ps in 98, i didnt get my ps till 99.

And I didnt like re1 for some reason, I finished it, but re2 and re3 left a far bigger impression then re1 did for me.

  • i never had a ps,i played the pc version.yeah re3 was awesome

  • grande clássico, pena que é difícil de encontra-lo.

    saudades desse tempo...

    grande jogo!

  • 7TH DISC!!??!?!?! uhh...How many disks are there?

  • 7. 8 if you have the special edition.

  • "Stand...Inside...The magic circle."

    *Looks around.*

    "...I'm already in the circle."

    XD!

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, I LOL'd when I heard that part

  • I need your help as English is not my native language.

I used to play this game with a friend of mine when I was younger and we always wondered what Adrienne yells at 1:36.

Thanks in advance, Phantasmagoria was a really cool game -one of the best actually- and I miss these times.

  • Just NO! I think.

  • I had the same problem, my family moved from Holland to USA when I was a kid (we spoke Dutch and German), and Phantasmagoria was one of the first PC games we played.

Scared the living crap out of me!! I can't even keep count of the nightmares this game gave me as a kid-- the whole creepy, slowly building evil in the house thing, the demon itself, all these weird background images, that painting, the secret passages. Brr!

It's a great story but not for kids!

  • Yeah, it sounds like she was going to say something else but then switched to NO! halfway through. You end up with something like "Ziguhno!"

  • @becuzkultz i think she says : Let me go !

  • I've played a lot of horror games, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, The Suffering... but nothing gave me nighmares like the live-videosequences from Phantasmagoria... I hated the game so much yet I still had to finish it, because I wanted to know how it was ends... I actually smashed the CDs after I'd finished this atrocious game... only good thing was the opening and ending music. Thanks for posting the vids here so minors can see it too...

  • lol. How could you smash the CD's? It's such a great game!

Well, I don't blame you, I suppose if I was scared of it I'd probably smashed the CD's too.

I was just always kind of......strange.

  • I don't think they had the same dynamics as Phantasmagoria.

Can you imagine if this was a movie and it was those actors, those scenes?

  • I had a similar reaction in terms of being terrified by Phantasmagoria (I was a young kid and my friends snuck it in), though I wouldn't say it was atrocious-- just really, really terrifying.

Roberta Williams and the Sierra and Kronos Digital people did a good job with the whole suspense/horror angle.

It wasn't even the live-videosequences that scared me so much, it was the whole atmospherics and subtlety.

  • For example, on Level 1, when Adrienne is looking at the mirror with that creepy music, it's not just the the painting of Carno's wife on the wall that changes (the obvious creepy element)-- look closely, there's a man watching Adrienne in the background, around the far left corner! (Probably the spirit of Carno.)

Also the way the painting changes like that, day by day, with the music-- creepier than the Shining! Then all those eerie interactions, just on Level one-- extremely scary scenes!

  • Haven't ANYONE recorded the whole game yet ?

It was the most awesome PC Game ever :) I even had a dude once trying to record it on VHS, but he never finished :D

  • This is gorey and all, but if you want psycho-gore madness play Harvester, it's the same type of game.

  • wait, there were 7 DISKS!!! HOLY SHIZZNIT!!!

  • I really miss the "interactive movie" era (the mid 90's I believe). They're the kind of game you don't have to be a gamer in order to enjoy (not that gamers don't enjoy them mind you). Plus they are the only 'retro videogame' style I still like.

  • PC.

  • I was very fond of this game, the ending is the most tense and suspenseful in any games I've played back then (and I've played Sierra games since King's Quest I!). It's far inferior to GK: The Beast Within which came out later, but still...

But I loath the design to allow us to jump straight to the last chapter though... it made the game felt less rewarding.

  • I Just found this, so very cool. This is'Don'.David Homb. And a big thanks to all the many fans out there. I love the mail. Love to hear from you, visit me on myspace.

  • reminds me of the are you afraid of the dark pinball ep..

  • the demon looked abit stupid, what they could of done was gave him something like chains on him, a bladed arm, demonic wings, and in snake like tongue.

  • The husband is possessed, but back when i saw a clip of him i thought he was on crack, and it's sad he had to die since he was possessed, the woman could of just find a bottle of holy water sprinkle it on her husbad to expel the demon(out of him or out of his ass) then throw it at the demon and the demon would go away.

  • Drain cleaner to the face!

  • i played this game a while back

  • terrible sound quality on the set they were on you can hear the room echoes....

  • Demon says "BOO!" at 4:48 lolz.

  • Is this chase sequence the end of the game?

  • Pretty much, yeah.

  • no it isn't

  • He's gone looney tunes!

  • "...im already in the circle"

  • Hesitate hesitate there. Okay, Adrienne, I know it's scary but you have a pit before you and a friggin' demon behind you which is worse???

  • Love the precious moments music at 2:40

  • so that is what the game looks like without choppyness? thanks

  • go in to the magic circle... im already in a circle LOL THE BEST PART!!

  • loved this game

  • Ok, i know how to get the theme song. But how do you get the others such as the music after she gets past the huge gap?

  • Can anyone put up some videos of the second game? IT looks interesting, i know the first was.

  • if you search Phantasmagoria 2 on youtube you will get some videos but not in succession like Zarla's. You will get a couple of random videos. The second game doesnt seem as interesting at this game

  • Thanks man, but I actually got a friend (who is a nerd @_@) to lend me the second one, and I beat it. ^^

  • I played this game when I was 12 years old.Yesterday me and a friend where talking about how scary that game was and it still is today !!!!!!!

If you can accomplish somthing that has such an impact then your good!!the creators really knew what they where doing !!

  • Damn, I wanted to kill the girl myself for all the times she would stand around and do nothing

  • @Xerock ít was annoying, she would do something then look around like she had to figure out what to do next, it was annoying cause i knew what to do next but had to wait for her to stop moving, i never knew you could forward it to her standing still. At the end she walks dows the steps 1 step at a time and for some reason the demon takes a long time to get to you if you do the sequence right. And what is the point of the demon smashing the door if hes just going to appear behind you?

  • Awesome! That wakes a lot of memories! I loved that game for so many years!!! Isn't the main theme just a great song??

  • It still gives me chills, despite how goofy the game is. :O

  • I remember playing part of it 12 years ago when it came out at a friends house and being scared to death of it. I guess you had to of played it the first time around to appreciate it now.

  • The first time I couldn't beat that game i couldn't sleep. But I beat up that game many time since then without cheating

  • Does he whisper her name shortly before he dies or am I imagining things?

  • No, I think he does...:'(

  • Now I really wanna kick some demon ass!!!

Don was such a sweetheart, the few glimpses in CH I were enough for me to really like him. :-(

  • Aaaw! Me too! I had the biggest crush on him when I was younger! (I still really love him though...*Blush*)

I hate the fact that there's absolutely no way of saving him. I think that is the reason why so many dislike the game. I find it sad, but it really makes the game even more tragic.

  • Oh, I couldn't agree more!!!!! I think that the Snowman should have snapped him out of it and they should have banished the demon together. Like that you at least get some sort of happy ending.

  • I remember I use to be scared at some of the scences at age 10, but I finally beat it! Do they even sell this anywhere now?

  • Jeesus Zarla, I did'nt know you liked this game. I still can't believe it was 8 freaking CD's long. 0_0 You should make a compilation of all the ways you can DIE in that ending.

  • Well, 7 disks. :O I tried to get most of the better ones!

  • sweet jesus this game is horrible but so good.

  • Best. Comedy. EVER.

  • hey at least they made up for that with the gore.

  • I've never played this game, but im thinking of downloading it. the only thing i dont get is that during the part where she's trying to distract don so she can kill him, do u have to click on the items for her to show to don or does it do it automatically?

  • Yeah, you have to click the snowman and click it on Don for her to do it.

  • and how hard is this game in terms of where to go and what to collect?

  • Really, it's not too difficult. You just have to have all the items needed for Chapter 7, it can sneak up on you. And sometimes it can be hard to find secret direction arrows. But mostly it's not too hard.

  • i remember being stuck literally trying to find a needle in a haystack... for weeks! thanks for uploading all the vids zarlasheenaza - you have truly brought back memories.

  • Oh I swear... When I played this at age eleven I cried so much when Don died... So sad!

  • Me too!!

  • Love this game, but you should record it again with fullscreen... Please...?

  • great game :D

  • this is one of my favorite scenes in Phantasmagoria where she sends the demon back very cool video ^ ^
