I'm just checking out all the different versions of War Pigs on Youtube. When this started up I almost turned it off immediately, thinking: Eh? War Pigs on drums and keyboard? Nahh.
But I thought I'd read the comments first as it played in the background - glad I did, it's fucking excellent. Not the sort of thing I'd listen to at home but wow - got a lot of respect for these guys. Good stuff.

Seriously, dude, I love the Dresden Dolls, but Brian is not the best drummer. Gavin Harrison...Dino Campanella....Morgan Agren....Gene Hoglan....Neil Peart...Danny Carey...Jimmy Chamberlain...just to name a few better drummers. I could go on for days.
This is not to discredit Brian. I can't play like he does, but I'm not a drummer. He's good for what they need, but not a "great drummer" by any means.
ok, I'll give you gavin harrison, and neil peart, but I can't abide gene hoglan, even though he's clearly a more practiced drummer, because he's never played on one song that I found listenable, he's simply a technician, I wouldn't consider what he does to be comparable to any of the folks here. As for guys like Danny Carey and Jimmy Chamberlain, they happen to play in more successful bands, but listening to recordings I can't really say who is better, it comes down to style.
Then you are clearly biased. Look, I'm a Dresden Dolls fan, but Brian is not in the same league as those guys. That's not a knock on him. I don't particularly care for the style of music that Buddy Rich played, but he was an amazing drummer. Now, if you think that Jimmy Chamberlain was just in a popular band, you're a moron. The guy is a machine, and I don't even like Smashing Pumpkins. As for Danny Carey, go purchase Adrian Belew - Side One and expand your horizons.
and y not.. he's got his own style which i like, u cant have 50..say punk rock drummers that you like (not implying that you do) and say they are ur top 50 because they would all be the same...
Anyone who can cover a black sabbath song with that degree of awesomeness deserves a medal....and to be covered in chocolate and repeatedly licked by sumatran bush babies.
amazing cover! I love it!

I'm thinking you could learn a lot about drummers simply by googling "polyrhythms."
AnewKINDofFEELIN 2 years ago
you must not know of a lot of drummers. not saying he's not good, but i wouldn't even put him in my top 50 based on any aspect you'd like to look at.
