If you want to save money in your residence you would be better off turning lights and a/c off when not needed - get occupancy sensors - buy compact fluorescents - and junk that 15 year old fridge and get a more efficient one. These devices are a scam. His technical arguments are bogus - talk to any degreed electrical engineer and they will confirm it's snake oil. Residences do not get billed for power factor. Cleaning up spikes is Ok but has nothing to do with saving energy. Shame on you.
Wow, Imagine you think you can argue with the Dept of Energy. It's more than cleaning spikes, get more electrical engineers to evaluate. There is a money back guarantee on the product. We get patents, and it's UL tested. You must sell appliances, way more expensive than this energy conditioner and your fridge will never ever SAVE the buyer money. Power factor has a direct relationship to electrical use, why do you think flourescents reduce use? Same principal. Duh!
The duh is on you! Dear Readers, notice how these mountebanks continue to insist on pressing their dubious claims. I'm not arguing with Dept of Energy I'm arguing with you perpetrating a fraud, they would never endorse such a useless gadget I'm a physicist. To understand the relationship between power factor & energy refer to the vector triangle all educated engineers know showing watts and VAR vectors at 90 deg and VA as the hypotenuse, the angle between Watts and VA is the pf. MORE
If you reduce pf by adding capacitance that doesn't alter the length of the watts vector It takes a certain amount of watts to drive appliances and loads. Work (watts) over time is energy or kWh which is what you get billed for not pf. The con is this: they show a reduction of current and tell laypersons that this will result in watts reduction -not so. (from W=VxIxpf) OK there is slightly less heating of wires due to reduced current so the watts vector will shrink but only a tiny amount.
