@Khanhachan409 well look carefully. When he took the stance of a smash he missed intentionally to confuse his opponent to not come near the net. Then he hit the drop shot
i dont get it why dont u smash it would go less against the nature and probably if u kept doing smashes the game could end faster therefore u wont get tired why work so hard to fake a smash when a smash can work just as well
@lordbossharrow nope. They made it a real not too long ago. You only get 1 swing at the ball. It doesnt matter if you hit the ball twice or 3 times. You get 1 swing and thats it.
@paulrocks247 That's what I'm trying to find out. lol. Was that 1 swing or 2? Cuz after he faked the smash, he kinda pushed the ball up by moving the racquet up.
if you do this pro-level, i guarantee you that it's considered a disrespectful shot towards your opponent. that's why no pros in the top 100 do stuff like that. fun trick nonetheless :)
This is really cool but the fact is once you become relatively competent at tennis if you get an overhead that easy you should just hit an overhead for a winner.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
what antiglobalwarming, you consider 3.5 upper level? lol, upper level is like 5.0+. im 14 and play either with top juniors or 4.5's.
and about the drop shot, it wasnt bad, of course it would have been a lot smarter just to hit an overhead. and the second i saw u miss the overhead, me or any other good player would be instantly at the service line
Only problem is the odds of having such a perfect smash winner in an upper level (3.5+ i'd guess) are slim to none. They usually land further back and such
Wow, I saw the title and was still tricked! Especially cuz I saw you wind up for a smash and was wondering how you were gonna pull it off. I'm gonna try this one out.
@mickelboy182 i would say that's true but then again, there are some people who can tell where a smash is going to land and can prepare to return it, in this video he fakes a smash letting the opponent run backwards and use a drop shot, in my opinion this shot is very effective.
@mickelboy182 even if you're that close to the net you can still miss and lands the ball right into the net, smashes are great finishers but they can miss just as well, even federer landed one into the net with a overhead smash, this is just playing with creativity thats all
I get so many replies to that comment, It was made before youtube automatically tagged the @(user)
It was a reply to some guy saying that this shot would in fact be suitable in a high level competition, and in some cases more useful than a simple smash.
Clearly that's not the case, and any player playing at a high level would put that smash away with ease.
Wimbledon Final 2012. Current scoreline: You vs Federer: 7:6,6:7,6:7,7:6, 21:20, 30:40, Running forehand into the corner, Federer scrambles and hits a defensive lob landing short leaving you the same position as the dude in the video at 0:07. Smash? Nah fuck that too easy to finish off, you wanna be remembered. What better way to do so by pulling off one of the greatest finishes in sports history at 0:08. Now that takes two fucking massive balls and a cuntload of mental cojones.
There are a lot of players, like me, who have enough reach and fast enough reaction time to return most smashes, but if you set up to do that, you'll never return a drop, or if you do it will be pretty much the weakest return possible.
@mickelboy182 I've returned smashes from competant players who were right next to the net. It takes both fast reflexes and a good ability to read where the opponent will hit the ball, but if you have both those things you can return smashes against most players, assuming you're closer to the net than the baseline. You need to be able to reach it, so you have to see it coming, but it can be done.
I stand by my statement, you play decent opposition (not some local league scrub) and there's no way that you should be able to return a smash when they are mere inches from the net. It'd take a miss-hit or an extremely weak action.
