Photographer Edward Weston wrote this in October, 1932. "I have a new record which I have played to the exclusion of all others for a month: Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major, Philharmonic Orchestra, Berlin, Furtwangler conduction; It is such a complete work so absolute, holding everything that music, or any art means to me, that I can hear it daily, ten times daily, and never tire."
This is actually a very good performance; considering it is a full orchestral string section, it actually follows much more accurate performance practices than most recordings with the "correct" orchestration would.
Good for Furtwangler though he does get the tempos wrong during the disc change!
Thanks for sharing this. Probably one of the best interpretations of this piece I have heard! Absolutely magnificent!Despite the crappy recording, the beauty of this music shines through.
@JasonJason210 Considering this recording was made in 1930 it's not crappy at all; it has good orchestral balance, the ratio of captured "orchestra to concert hall" is fine; it has good resolution, even at low levels, is quite compression free and has a reasonable sound stage and good dynamics.

Bellissimo. Now the style is philologic but this interpretation gives great emotions.

@SatchmoSings Yes, not bad for 1930, but I meant not so good by today's standards.

Even as a kind of Furtwängler fanatic, I never heard his Bach. I enjoy it very much.
The slight ritardandi at the very beginning remind me a bit of Willem Mengelberg's way of approaching Bach tempi.
Thanks, nyanko ! Keep it up ?
