  • I wouldn't be all that excited about demo-ing a Squat Thrust (Burpee) If I worked at Crossfit. I mean isn't it all about blood, sweat and dreams at Crossfit? He sounds like he is demonstrating exercises at the Nursing Home.

  • these are called burpies but the difference is that in burpies u jump at the end.

  • According to my college PE professor, squat thrusts should not be done because they are dangerous, and present a higher risk of injury. Straight legged situps, toe touches, windmills and "bridges" are also among the exercises which should be avoided. Supposedly, jumping jacks, pushups, and crunches are safer.

  • we do these in wrestling practice. i hate them. haha. and we do them MUCH faster than he does them in this video. and after we pass #20 we jump after each one. they hurt. haha.

I'm one of six girls on our wrestling team (most in the state of maine, im proud! haha) and I've been told that a lot of guys have such a big problem with it, they might intentionally hurt us... but i think its a load of crap, do you know anybody like that?

  • Just barley turned 19. But yeah I wrestled for my high school we had at least one girl every year, anyways I see it as no problem. A lot of guys are just scared that they might look bad in wrestling a girl. But if you love it keep doing it, go to camps and work hard every practice, and outside of practice. Go through moves when you're not in practice. Honestly it takes a lot , to become decent. But yeah, I think two years ago a highschool down here in Utah had a girl place second in state

I lost both, and I know this is no excuse, but they were both good wrestlers, and this is my first year. I plan to stick with it, hopefully all through high school. Are you wrestling in college?

  • Na, I got a scholarship for Track in THROWING Discus and Shot. AT UVU. Miss wrestling and all that, but we'll see where throwing takes me

  • As well if you want to become better, try freestyle, the rules are different and the style is different for sure. It is a bit more dangerous because some of the moves can easily break a bone or even your neck. But yeah check it out if you truly want to shine in the sport.

  • i would recommend trying them in a Tabatas style format. That's 20 seconds on, 10 seconds rest...etc. for 8 rounds. That's a total of 4 minutes. Great way to close out a cardio workout and feel like you're going to throw up...lol.

  • I did a lazy 3hrs once. How lazy? I only did 600, which is about 3 per minute. I didn't start that slow, but thats how it ended up. I think it was 3hrs- no less than 2 1/2 and no more than three.

  • I love youtube for the simple fact that a short exercise video can spark such heated debate about something so trivial that onlookers feel the need to question the motives of the arguing parties. Until the subject of your debate comes out and clarifies his life experience, neither of you are right and you're just going in circles. I wish people could grasp this concept instead of pushing so hard to hold the correct opinion without any of the facts.

  • When doing this, When standing back up I perform a "Star Jump", and then go back down :)

  • you dont have to jump. The jump one is called a Burpee. A squat thrust you do not have to stand back up, you can just continously repeat the squat and thrust bit for a minute, making sure you completely straighten the legs and then bring them straight back up to your chest. But his squat thrusts wernt that great :(

    It has nothing to do with his sense of humor as you put it. He could have lived a sheltered life and then I would understand his claim but if he was being truly honest it has everything to do with his lack of life experience or lack of "getting out more" as in getting more comedy in his life.

  • You can't possibly know how much "life experience" he has, or how much he goes out; that's why I said you were being ignorant. Also, what's funny to one guy can be really boring to someone else. I despise Family Guy, some of my friends like it. And YES, it has got something to do with his sense of humor, not him going out or not.

  • You also know nothing of his life experience, maybe he has lived a sheltered life and thus it would have everything to do with his limited exposure to comedy. If all he did was sit in his moms basement and make fart noises his entire life then it would explain his comments. I'm simply pointing out the absurdity that this is somehow the apex of comedy to someone. You seem to have no problem accepting that as plausible, which says a lot about your sense of humor. I personally think hes lying.

  • Furthermore what i learnt from my instructor was an exercise he called the 'explosive burpee'. We all just called it burpees but it involved you to jump up instead of just stand up.

  • it wouldnt kill ya if you put some speed into the movements.

  • That's the perfect speed. you want to do every exercise slow, it works each muscle more and prevents injury. If you don't truely know something don't act like you do, it only spreads false information.

  • Being able to do it quickly once you have good form is fine, as with any exercise. The form is important - as soon as you start to lose form, you should slow down and possibly stop whatever exercise you are doing - but if the form is nice and smooth, speed should be the next goal.

    the faster you lift the weight the more power you produce, the stronger you can get. explosive power. it gives you 2 variables to rain so you can progress if one of them stagnates. slow repetitions WILL keep your muscle under tension for longer, thus increasing the hypertrophy BUT hypertrophy is useful only to impress chicks. you will get stronger tho but not as strong as you could be.

  • woa, cool, thanks for explaining that. so its kinda like "looks" if you bulk up? but for sure, lean muscle is better than huge ones. more efficient, more funtional, more endurance.

  • defo. i've got a mate who is a 230lb body-builder but he is crap at body-weight exercises. he can bench incredible amounts of weight but can hardly do press-ups for more than a minute or so lol

  • That's usually how it goes. I think seeing someone do planches or hand-stand pushups is equally, if not more amazing to watch than someone lifting 300 or 400 lbs
