I've had this condition (keratoconus) for the past 5 or 6 years at the advanced stage now but I haven't let it stop my passions of music (See my channel) and it shouldn't control your life either, stay positive and make adjustments to daily life if you have to!
hi thanks for putting this up, my mother in law is having this op next week tho she kind of knows what happens i am not sure whether to show her this before or after? i think after the op myself but never been through this, so too you who have had it done, should i offer to show her as she has no computer or wait till after?
I'm having my cornea transplant in two days but I'm nervous because when I had my right eye don't back in 2003, I was knocked out. This time around I was told that I'm going to be conscious. Am i going to aware of what's going on? I know I'm not going to feel anything but just the thought that I'm still awake is not making me feel good at all.
@killshot13000 as of today it's been 3 months since the surgery and the eye has not given me any problem. The experience was better than I though it was going to be vein awake thru the surgery. The stitches are going to start coming off Aug. 1st!! Thanks for asking :-)
@HPaisana most people get cornea transplants because the one they have either stops working like it should and contact lenses don't work no more. And yes, they come from other people that donated them after death.
I had a corneal transplant in each eye. The right eye when I was 18, and the left eye when I was 19. I have keratoconus, but my vision has vastly improved because of the surgery.
I have had three of them and YES I was conscious - but I was so drugged out, I didn't care much at the time. It is a little emotionally scarring, but nothing that requires therapy. I even remember talking to my Dr. while they were sewing me up - 30 stitches - VERY large graft.
I've had the surgery, 2 weeks ago, It went great, minimal pain, vision improving daily, all I have to do is start getting the stitches out in a few months! Went better than I expected! Thanks for asking
hi there, i,m sorry to bother but i ve been told by my doctor that i have to have a corneal transplant. i didnt ask for more details and opted for the semi-rigid lenses. i suffer from (curvature di cornea)this vid scared the hll out of me, it must be painful, do you think that the surgery can turn bad? i want to do it, actually i am in the states but i was living in italy and heard it's the best place i can have better results... please can you or anyone help?
I work for a cornea specialist and we see transplant patients all the time. Many of them are very successful, but there is always a risk with any surgery. There is also a chance the graft can reject at some point which would cause it to no longer function for you and need replacing again in order to get vision back. I haven't had it done so I wouldn't be a good judge of pain, but the surgery itself you'll likely be under anesthesia. Good luck!
@killshot13000 how long does it take?

I'm probably gonna have to get this when I'm older and this is freaking me out. Hopefully I can get crosslinking soon so my sight wont get worst.

@maxreynoso Why do people make cornea transplants... and is it some sort of plastic or from another person?

because their cornea is degenerative or they have sustained some sort of injury damaging the cornea.
