I really think with the net clearance that Nadal hits on clay, Federer must go for the overhead; once it bounces, it will be a difficult return on the rise.
Federer's win at the French Open was immense...OK he did not play Nadal in final but the draw was hardly easy, To play a solid clay courter Acasuso, Haas, Del Porto and Soderling (Monfils as well) that's not an easy draw...Who did Nadal beat to get to the final of US................Youzny....that's it...His draw was easy....
you can use this board to illustrate the different patterns the top players use normally and you can disect their attack patterns( or defense ). kinda like what you did with federer's drop shot. maybe you can even show your viewers (even fed) why he keeps losing to murray nadal etc. keep up the good work coach.
I love the board. I am happy that roger won the french open but I wanted to see him beat nadal. As you said Roger has a different strategy against nadal that he showed at madrid open
What you are doing is really interesting ... Please continue doing this, it really helps me to watch the matchs with more analysis ... The bord is great. Go roger
Board is great. Comment is spot on, all the right moves from Fed are correctly described. Funny that in his own website Federer said, a couple of years ago, that he is not a great fan of dropshot. Well, he changed his mind, and with his talent he used it to perfection, especially against big and heavy guys like Acasuso, Soderling and Del Potro. That's a great weapon on clay because your opponent will almost certainly slide while changing direction in a rush. More so if he's a big guy.
i like the new board as well...and you are absolutely fantastic...hope hearing your explaination about the wimbledon..cause i am going to london to watch it...
Great job ! Please also explain why Nadal is able to beat Federer so many times. It Not not only the great quality of Nadals play, Nadal also knows how to neutralize Feds weapons which work so fine against hardhitters like Safin, Del Potro and Roddick. Against those guys he can recover in a speedy rally with a backhand slice crosscourt onto the others backhand. Against lefty Nadal, this does not work, coz N. can answer with a topspin forehand. So, vs Rafa, Roger has to play more topspin backhand
Right, I agree. Federer is one of the few who can do this. But it is very triring and as a singlehand player, he cant put as much preasure on the ball. An easy answer with a slice crosscourt onto the backhand works against right handers but not against Nadal. Beside the sheer physical difficulty, I would assume, that it is also mentally demanding for Federer to play against Nadal, because he cant play instinctly as he does against righthanders. Vs Nadal, he has to think all the time what to do.
wow that tennis board is incredible, i really admire how much money and effort you invest on teaching us about not only technique but also strategy, and all of your aids are awesome, specially the HD slo-mo :) keep up the good work!!
i like the board keep it up. it was very interesting. i really love your youtube page it has been a great help and inspiration to me ever since i began playing tennis
You were right about Federer's positioning close to the baseline. With all respect to technicalities it also sends a clear signal to his opponents..."Here I am and not gonna take one step back ". Soderling won his 6 mathes on to the final by dictating play all the time.
But in the finals, he was the one chasing the ball all around. I think his comment in the press said it all..He said no one plays as fast as Federer.
Right on the spot with analysis FYB. Good idea with the board. Keep it up..
I enjoy watching tennis so much more since I started following your analysis. You Rock ! Lucky me got tickets for 2nd week of Wimbledon in the ballot, can't wait.
I like the white board... keep using it...And with federer grip, is he really a eastern? He must use alot of whip with his wrist to generated alll that spin
Love the whiteboard. Helps in analyses for us to understand what you are actually referring to. I would also suggest the use of actual 10 second videos from matches that you are analyzing to underscore the observations you make.
will your site is becoming a powerhouse with all the great tips, feedback and lessons you give and now including strategic lessons and showing how the pro use tactics such as the drop shot is making you and your site a force to be reckoned with on the tennis online community
I think a cool idea might be to have a little cross section at the bottom of a court "side view". that way you could describe certain spins a little better, as well as using it in cunjunction with the quarter angle view to analyze serves
I love your videos, they are very informative. The white board is an excellent prop, it really helps to understand your points much better. Thanks for the awesome review!
Soderling had a better chance of winning against Federer if he had played without thinking his inferiority. He said so himself that he couldn't likely beat Roger because he was superior. Great summary though. awesome... 5 stars oughtta do the trick!
Board is fantastic !! Good job...makes your commentary even more lucid...Fed's drop shot was the reason he won this year....the missing key to his prior attempts. He should dominate Wimbledon
Good points on Fed's dropshot. Please add a technical video showing the details of Fed's technique on the dropshot both from the forehand or from the backhand side. Thanks
I like the fact that you are using the whiteboard. It's a good tool to illustrate the tactics and strategies of the players. It would also be good if you can put some video clips in your anaylsis of the matches.
That whiteboard is awesome! I learned alot more by using that white board because it had awesome visualization and I loved it! Keep using it for future analysis like in Wimby and in the U.S.
the whitebord is top notch. gives great visualisation. One thing you could add is magnets of the players. fx, a magnet with federers face and one with soderling so its more clear who's who. If the whiteboards is magnetic of course.
I also notice that Fed has the ability to wait a bit longer before hitting a put away forehand. He likes to let it drop a bit before he strikes. This i rekon gives federer more options decide on where to put the ball away or simply go for the drop shot. So against a guy like nadal where he might even get the ball back with a on the run winner, federer can actually just play it safe with a dropper. I think this keeps players guessing when theyre in that situation.
Really like the tennis board. Only suggestion would be perhaps the use of different colored pens to illustrate your different shots, movements etc. But whatever you use, all your stuff is brilliant. Thanks a bunch and can't wait for the Wimbledon analysis.
loved the tennis whiteboard. like someone else said, incorporate video of federer doing a drop shot (like you were talking about) and the result, then explain it on the whiteboard. however you do it, great job!
What you mean is a legend describing some standard modelling elements which make up the drawing. That would make it more clear what is actually depicted on the board when drawing it.
Are you using the whiteboard as a green screen and then overlaying the court? If you're doing this, make sure you change the court to whatever they're playing on! (like someone else said)
I liked how you drew everything out. Very clear and nice job.
I love it! He also got inside of Soderling's head a little because he kept using the drop shot and playing with him, running him around the court since he is so tall and cumbersome. Great vidz make more about Federer and his strategies!!!!!!
