Bare in mind they've had intimate acts together (which was also noted as all of the "tough scenes" Julie has said she's been in), they've had possibly the most screen time as a couple on the show and the relationship between them - especially in Season 4 wouldn't surprise me that they both like each other very much - but not in any romantic way.

Especially considering I think he was married to Jennifer Carpenter at the time.

Well Carpenter and Hall are married in real life, and maybe the way the table is set up is a little annoying to Carpenter. Also Julie and Jen never really had a lot of time to bond on the show. They hardly ever appear in the same scene. Past a few double date moments in the first episode I can't really think of many times.

@Tommie809 Bare in mind Deb did save Ritas life prior to the start of the series, and that Debra was insensitive to other characters in the seasons 1-3 (not so much in Season 4 - I haven't seen past the end of Season 4).

That, and Debra also gets involved with a lot of men, Rita has the kids - when he's not with one of them, they're with someone else.
