Fred's slight lateral move of his head off the ball (camera left) of 1-2" combined with his huge leg drive probably puts strain on his lower discs, yes. Just after the arrows Miller drew after impact, he's in quite a reverse "C' position. If you imagine after impact that his head is slightly less behind the ball (to the left) after impact, there would be less of a curve to the back. The more the back is curved, the more possibility to herniate the disk.
gravity move? johnny miller is an idiot and ben hogan would like to slap him, i never took any good advice from miller, never liked his thoughts and comments because he has no idea what hes talking about, its like hearing freddy couple talk about the golf swing, you start the swing not with a "GRAVITY MOVE" no, you start it with the hip, thank you hogan!
@helenathena it was interesting to hear miller say he got the left heel plant move from tony lema.Such an important part of the swing, the left heel plant is the "2" in millers 1-2-3 swing.
See,golf is a jazz triplet beat.
If u play golf to a rock 1-2 beat you'll come over the top.
It's 1-backswing, 2-left heel down gravity drop, 3-swingthrough
@mondo4422 it took me years to cure my over the top move.Just too stubborn to go to a pro and I had too much aggression in my swing.Too much of that rock and roll back beat,I guess.
Needless to say, golf is a lot more enjoyable now, swinging from the inside.
You're being overly harsh. The lateral/turn of the hip coincides with the fall of the arms into the slot. That they can be analyzed separately doesn't mean they don't happen simultaneously. Seems to me Miller is just pointing out one facet of it.
@helenathena You dont' have any knowledge if you think Hogan 's first move from the top was a hip turn. It's a hip bump to shift weight back to the left side and dropping the hands that put's you in the slot. Don't make nasty comments about major winners who wouldn't let you wash their car. Miller was as good any anyone during his prime and won by large gaps over the field.
@danic18 This is one way to 'get this'. Try to remember that most golfers try to start the downswing by pulling the club down with the coiled muscles of the left side. This creates the 'over the top' swing path. Miller here is giving you the secret to real effortless club head speed. The downswing starts passively until you have gotten halfway down. Then the legs drive forward as the hips uncoil or rotate left. As the forearms and wrists rotate and release through the impact zone.
i smell hackers.......here come the bullshit analytical coments

One has to wonder how much of Couple's back problems are related to this swing. Comments?
