I used to go to Bay Meadows race track in the San Francisco area on friday nights with my ex husband, mom and dad, and my aunt and uncle. I haven't been in a really long time and I miss it! Looks like you had a blast!
Keeneland is a really special race track and is a wonderful and not expensive way to spend a day. One doesn't have to bet to come out feeling like a winner.
I don't gamble, except for situations like this. We went there to enjoy the food and the horses, and, the betting was just something to do for the video. I was careful to bet very little and very conservatively!
Indeed that looks like a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday, in the horse capital of the world :). I see you still have your lovely autumn colours there. Here in Quebec they arrive and depart somewhat sooner... *snif*
Yes, we still have leaves on the trees and fresh herbs in the herb garden--but that may end this weekend! It was a pleasant trip to Keeneland to watch the races and enjoy a meal! I hope you enjoyed the video! Thanks for viewing and commenting!
Thanks for your lovely comment! I'm not into gambling that much, either, or I would have bet a lot more $! I just wanted to show the whole racetrack experience, and I ended up making two of the dishes that we had for lunch. It's nice to hear from you--all the way from Germany!
great video thanks for going to the trouble of making it. I really like learning about new places to see. is this the same track the kentucky derby is held or are there more then 1 track there?
Hi! Thanks for your sweet comment! No, the Kentucky Derby is held in Louisville at Churchill Downs. This is a smaller venue, but a lot of fun! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
ok ya now that you said Churchill Downs I do remember that was a differant track my bad LOL... do you ever go to that track? it might be cool for you to so a video from that track as well. just an idea..
I have been to Churchill Downs, and I could take all of you there sometime. I have a couple of other trips in mind that I will be doing soon! You will get to know Kentucky very well! Thanks for your comment!
Horse racing is big in Kentucky, the home of Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby is run the first Saturday in May each year. This has been going on over 100 years. Horse racing is big with the horse-racing set, but not everyone! Thanks for your comment!
I miss the pride and patriotism that exists in America - things are very different in the UK in that respect. Thanks for sharing another wonderful field trip! :)
Thanks! We have been married 40 years (in January), plus we dated for 4 years before that! Our lives fit together very well! Thanks for your sweet comment!
Hi Betty, just wanna thank Rick and you for takin' us to the Keenan Horse Races in Kentucky,.....mighty fine field trip, glad ya all won somethin' and as for the vittles, both them plates look SCRUMPTILIOUS, take care pretty lady, say hi to ol' blue eyes(Rick) for me! = ) *****
OOooooo Betty that looks fab! I so hope you are going to take me to the Kentucky Horse Trials next April, with your camera :0) Looks like you and Rick had a lovely day out! Px
Thank you! Kentucky gets a bad name across the country, but the truth is that it is a very beautiful place with generous, loving people (as a rule). I hope I am able to share some of the nice things that only Kentucky has to offer. Thanks for your lovely comment!
I really enjoy the video of the keeneland horse race. That was great. Thank you Betty for taking u tube community along with you. God Bless You and Family!
Looks like an excellent day out! This is probably a silly question, but what exactly does it mean when you bet 'to show'? I've never placed a bet on anything in my entire life, so when it comes to these things I'm in need of education!!
Yes, we had a fun trip! When you bet to show, you are betting that the horse will come in 3rd(show) or better. If the horse comes in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, you get the payout money for 3rd place. If you are brave, and bet to win, if your horse wins, you get the payout money for 1st place (which is more than the payout for 2nd or 3rd). However, if your horse comes in 2nd or 3rd (or farther back) you get no payout money. You just lost your bet. I hope that is clear!
Betty! Loved this video!!!! Your chicken salad looked delicious! I love your field trips! Hope you have a beautiful rest of the weekend! Love to you and yours.
Thanks, Amy. The chicken salad was *wonderful* at Keeneland! I decided to upload it, because it was different from the two chicken salads I already have posted! I hope all is well with you! Love to you and yours, as well!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! And I am glad you enjoyed the chicken salad! I uploaded it today, and I hope you will be able to use the recipe! Thanks for your lovely comment!
Hi Jimmy! I'm glad you liked the video! Thanks for your nice comment. I uploaded the chicken salad today, but, don't worry, Jimmy--I made the burgoo for you! I will be uploading it tomorrow!
Hi Jimmy! This will be Keeneland's version of burgoo, with a few changes from me. It's very much simplified from the real Kentucky burgoo--the real burgoo has about 5 meats and a dozen vegetables. If you want to see that version, just let me know--but it will take me a while to get to it--plus, I am going out of the country for about 2 weeks at the beginning of December. I won't be doing any uploads during that period. (I just wanted you to know in advance.) Have a good night, Jimmy!
Yes, I upload trips on Sundays. I have a few already ready, but I think they would get boring if I did them every day--and when the weather gets colder, I won't be doing as many trips! Thanks for your comment!

I never gamble. For me it's about as productive as sitting at home in the john trhowing money down the commode and flusjing it. LOL.
My Mom likes to gamble, and she often wins, though she usually goes to casinos rather than horse tracks.
