The Jewish citizens of pre-WW2 Munkatch were predominantly religious and those who didn't observe the Shabbos in Munkatch were a mere small sliver of the community. In the USA, shabbos observance was was hardly noticable until the religious Jewish community grew after the war and immigrants were numerous
There are still Hasidim in the world, and Munkatcher Hasidim at that. Baruch Hashem! No matter what the descendents of Amalek try to do, the Jewish people will prevail.
Sad irony. The Grand Rabbi exhorts for the camera(s): if the Jews in america keep the Sabbath, everything will be good. Maybe the Jews kept the Sabbath better in Munkatch, but it was not good.
Here is one of the most influential Rabbis of the 20th century, "Rebbe" M. M. Schneerson of the Hasidic sect of Chabad Lubavitch, teaching that all non-Jews are to be considered a different inferior species to Jews:
"We have a case of "let us differentiate" between totally different species. This is what needs to be said about the body: the body of a Jewish person is of a totally different quality from the body of [members] of all nations of the world... "
@MultiTakida The hora dancers are not necessarily "young Zionists". They are singing "V'al Yedei Zeh Yishpah Shefah Rav", a song that is still popular in modern Hasidic circles.
Amazing. Never saw this before. Today that life in Europe is no more, but thank G-d, a new life for Jews exists in Israel, the United States, and elsewhere too. I helped to produce a film shot partially in Munkatch or Munkach in 1994 and 1995 called Carpati, to see what little remained there.
Thank you for showing the whole Jewish community of Munkatch here. One of the Spinker family sent his son to Israel in 1935, so that son survived the Shoah.
It is pleasant to see their spirit; it is sad to contemplate what came after this.
@Hungaria56 yes millions died under stalinism & in the comunist revolution, I have sympathy for them all. I find that the people who shout this are usualy nazi sympathisers & hate Jews and are glad the shoah happend...
I sympathise with all the inocents that died under comunism but I'll not cry over the evil SS & nazi collaberators that the red army killed...
I don't know if this is real or not. My family is from Munkatch and small villages very near there. My grandfather came to America in 1910 and couldn't send for my grandmother and her two girls for 11 yrs because of WWI. It moved me to see the place my family walked. Some survived, most didn't.
No words for this. A whole population decimated. How is Man capable of evil such as the Holocaust? All the more impetus to "know thyself", and aim for nobility of spirit despite the capacity of Man to descend to pure evil. Thank you for this moving clip.
I wonder how many of the children singing HaTikvah knew it would be the Israeli national anthem? I wonder how many of those children survived long enough to find out : (
I think there are many reasons why the Holocaust happened....though none can be validated or justified. When Human beings can depart from divisions of culture and the seperateness of religious beliefs can our race evolve to a point where this can never happen again.
Mainly because the Americans wanted to get their economy back up and running. If you have a war and you supply weapons, you have full production, full employment and a healthy economy. Then, when everyone has killed each other in Europe, the Americans arrive at the end of the war to give Europeans loans to make even more money from the interest.
The only reason why Holocaust happened(and why all those chiild died) was because there was no Israel and the ONLY thing why it wont repeat is because we have Israel
Thank you for posting this insight in to a past era. I am not Jewish, but when I noted the date of this film, a shudder ran through me.
To recall the unimaginable horror and suffering these happy people were to endure just a few short years after this film was shot makes me quite emotional.
People, people, there were many ideologies and "isms" in Europe at the time among Jews, just like today. Fruma Rabbonim did not sanction such things, especially the Munkatcher Rebbe.
This is realy touching to see, and sad at the same time, knowing the fate of most people in this video. I am grateful for those who survived and wish them all te be 120 years of age in "gesundkeid".
What fate. Ah the fate of the official version of the holocaust that is protected by laws and courts because without it even the most ignorant sheeple would have got it that its a hideous lie.
@suutari13 No the fact that Germans are famous for their accuracy and precision and documented those numbers themselves is something no one can deny. It are the old and new nazi's that are believing a hidious lie that there were less deads. Understandable, less victims would suit them better ofcourse, talking about ignorant sheep......... The ones that believe things because it suits them better and rape history....... well, nuf said in my opinion.
I'm ever so grateful you've downloaded this. My father came from Munkac altho he was 2 at this time.11yrs later the entire community was destroyed in Birkeneau.
@Nov633 They are not frum, and you are making an argument where there isn't one. If you even bothered to read the video title, it even says "secular jews dancing". Next time read so that you do not look like a fool.

Starting from 2:46, they're singing 'Hatikva' (The Hope) - a song which will become the national anthem of the state of Israel.

Stalin murdered over 50 million people. Can we hear the stories of those millions who suffered under Marxist tyranny?
Rákosi was the biggest terrorist Hungary has ever known. How about the millions who suffered under his evil rule?

In Munkatsch there was Rabbi Shapira who was antizionist and the first zionist school in Czecholsovakia- the two movements clashed.

Amazing how boys and girls, apparently frum, dance together to the words of a holy prayer. And no Rabbi screams "gevaldt!"
Nov633 2 years ago
Trust me they were far from what we would call frum. Note the change in Haavara as well
simcha112 2 years ago
The havara is a trivial change. Other changes, such as the mixing of genders I mentioned, are more significant.
My point is, the definition of what is frum changes. The frum of yesterday is the epikoirus of today.
Or, like my tatte of blessed memory used to comment on the seider nacht:
"Why do they print new haggodahs every year?
"Because the Chacham of last year has become a Rosho this year, so they need a new Chacham for this year's hagadah!"
Nov633 2 years ago

The zionists dancing aren't necessarily secular but they are not orthodox like the Hasidic movement that was led by Rabbi Shapira shown in video
