  • Thank you, Raymond Crooke, for introducing me to John Walsh through this video. Like you, he is the "real deal", authentic, vibrant, traditional music performer.

  • @MerlePsyA You're welcome. He's a good friend, though I only see him about once a year now - when I visit Hong Kong.

I LOVE THE IRISH (and theirn MUSIC)

  • I've heard Appalachian songs that use this tune.

  • @MondoBeno I'm not surprised. A lot of Irish tunes travelled to America.

  • This is great! I live in Youghal! What a song. I was surprised to see that you did this. That "Mental Hospital" is called St Rapheals here!

  • One of many great songs that John Walsh sings.

  • great version of this tune, i really enjoy listening to it well done.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • I first heard it from Christy Moore, his a bit far-eastern sound is nice, but this song so beautiful even when i sing with my crow like voice. :)

  • Thanks for watching. I've never tried singing this song myself. John does it so well.

  • Yours is great also, but wish that the cam could show the "chorus" while they all sing together i wondered them all the time i hear their voice. Great job :)

  • A lot of my Canny Man videos do actually show the audience as well as the performer. But we don't want to be too intrusive with the camera.

  • i need to drink this shit immediately

  • thats a great version :)

I love this song ... can listen to it time after time ... :)

  • John does it really well.

  • Great!

  • You're welcome.

Normally I like listening to Punkrock, Skapunk, Oi!, etc. but that song really rocks^^

  • Glad to hear you can appreciate John's singing. Folk music rocks too!

  • Yeah

  • You da man johny

    KEEP IT UP BUDDY!!!!

  • Hello

    Raymond...

This is yet another classic that we sing @ Sweet Rosie O'Grady's Bar & Grill in The Big Apple (usually just after our second round of "Cockles and Mussels")

Here,John presents the song in a very relaxing and laid back manner which brings out the very best in his performance. A superior showcase would indeed be a challenge to meet. Thank your for sharing this magical and from the heart floorshow with us.

    Peace,

    Stewball

  • its a good version, but i think Christy Moores is better

  • I should hope so, as Christy Moore is a professional musician. I'm sure John, who sings purely for enjoyment, would be happy to know it's a good version, and would have no intention of competing with Christy Moore.

  • Johnny Jump up refers to Breton cider.. Not sure where the WW1 stuff comes in. The beverage pre-dates the war....

  • Hadn't heard this for years - I was in a pub at the age of 11 believe it or not, but the performers were friends of our friends so...

Anyway the guy sang it a capella and this is the first time I've heard it since then. Being partial to a bit of cider myself...

  • I don't think I'd heard it until John sang it!

  • bravo.

    cheers to you good sir.

  • BRAVO!! Man, I love this song, but I love this version a whole lot better. Please do post more of his songs.

  • I'll be happy to post more of John's songs when I get the chance.

  • Nice version!

  • Outstanding. I'm pretty sick of those slick uptown versions of these trad songs. This guy sings it like he's actually tasted the stuff. And the choruses by the folks on the couch add to the great feel of this song.

  • Thanks for this comment. I always enjoy John's songs and the relaxed style in which he presents them.

  • I like it... I'm used to this song being more upbeat, but this new, calmer spin on it is different, but not bad! :)

  • John has a very relaxed style. I always enjoy his singing.

  • best version on youtube..

  • Thanks. I think John does this really well. I hope I have a chance to record more of his songs some day.

  • You should lol as many as humanly possible and then some more lol

  • It sounds great. :)

  • i luv that song

  • go on ya by ya

  • Well Done John, Greetings

    From Murroe

  • if he sang it with a little more upbeat rhythm it be better but jus the same

  • put a bit of life into it man. that song needs to be sang with passion.

  • This song moved my russian heart. Though I didn't understand everything, it's simple and straight. That's good.

  • Great stuff.

  • oh man i loved this! Really makes me want to learn the song myself. Id love to see the lyrics to the song :)

  • Thank you, it was Great!

  • I just have to learn this song.

    Thanks man.

    Trevor

ps Hmmm, maybe I'll try to make it too.

  • That's a good way to go out with a bang. for the record, I think you did it better then the Dubliners or any other professional band. Don't let anyone tell you any different, or I must might have to hiss at them.

  • Great song. Pity it's the last one by everyone, but still looking forward to more form you Raymond.
