There's so much fear of a strong female figure...of women having power, choice, rights - people need to get with the program and all the crap in our society that Steinem discusses are reflected in the comments below. She's absolutely right - if a woman is powerful, she's feared, she's called a "bitch" or a "cunt" - but when a man is powerful, authoritative, it's viewed as natural and inherent when it's not at all. And all three of those rules are based upon the erroneous assumption that women are blasé about abortions and just prance into the clinic. That's patronizing, and it doesn't show any respect for a woman's life and choices.
It's about putting barrier after barrier in front of women seeking abortions, in an attempt to further shame and guilt them.
