I love Akira Kurosawa...Richard Gere too. I was wondering why Kurosawa casted Richard Gere as the half Japanese grandson in the film. Now I know. Gere is 1/4 Japanese and stated that his Japanese grandmother was the single most influential person in his life. I assume that's why he's Buddhist as well.

This is one of Kurosawa's weaker work. If I had to describe it in just one word, it would be...hmmmm, well it was awkard.
