  • love stray cats brian is way cool

  • slap bass !!!!!!

  • just love that bass beat.......

  • You got it all wrong Samhain..Yes Setzer rocks but "The Stray Cats" were amazing talent. They were the heart and soul of rockabilly.. stand up bass .. stand up drums Setzer playing brillant guitar...absolutely stellar band.. LEGENDS. and highly respected in the music industry.

  • You got it all wrong Samhain..Yes Setzer rocks but "The Stay Cats" were amazing talent. They were the heart and soul of rockabilly.. stand up bass .. stand up drums Setzer playing brillant guitar...absolutely stellar band.. LEGENDS. and highly respected in the music industry.

  • Setzer rocks - he was just in a stupid concept band when Sha Na Na was still around....

  • I want that hair, but im getting old and bald LOL!

  • I like both metal and rockabilly, and Brian Setzer is just as cool for me as Kerry King, Tony Iommi or Lemmy. In fact, Lemmy actually sings in a rockabilly band called The Head Cat, with Slim Jim from the Stray Cats and Danny B. Harvey from The Rockats.

  • Great band when they first arrived in the UK back in 1980 but none of the 'Rockin' bands back then were a patch on the original line-up of The M3t3ors.

  • Actually, I'd quite like to run away with Brian Setzer..... And agreed with a couple of the comments below, he does look a little bit like Joe Strummer.

  • EDDIE COCHRAN MEANT THIS TO HAPPEN!!!¬

  • Setzer was my reason for picking up the guitar... legend!

  • Brian is still going strong!

  • pretty sure this is either over dubbed or they are lip synching. sounds just like the album note for note.

  • @adamrenihan Yeah, unfortunately on Top of the Pops, they very, very rarely would let bands or singers play live - even in the few cases they did, it had to be a backing track with only the vocal live. 'Jilted John' was an example, because the lyrics were virtually all spoken, and couldn't be lipsynched. Some bands wouldn't even play the programme if they couldn't sing live, like The Jesus and Mary Chain. In the later years of the programme, this rule was relaxed quite a bit.

  • The dogs bollockus!!!!!!!!!

  • great musicians :-)

  • i love this song, especially the solo.

  • j'adoooooooooooore!!!!!!!

  • The singer kinda looks like Billie Joe armstrong (:

  • @TheGreenOrgasm i was just thinking he looks like joe strummer(the clash R.I.P) he has that london boy stamp.blinding!!!!!

  • Brilliant track!! LOVE IT!!!

  • weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Stray cats rock....the gretsch god..ROCKABILLY RULES!!!!!....

  • 2 cans of extra hold aqua net hair spray, go Brian

  • The show was TOP OF THE POPS, a program that INSISTED that musicians who appear "perform" to a pre-recorded track, much to the irritation of many of the guests. STRAY CATS were world class musicians who COULD have performed live & still sounded AMAZING, equalling, if not surpassing, the sound of the recorded original. They didn't have to rely on the talents of the sound engineer & echo chambers & pitch correction equipment.

  • @dannypantsNYC - 100% behind your comments..

  • Hey Setzer die hards! I wrote a Setzer tribute song (a la Gene & Eddie) called This Kitten is Smitten. In it, I reference 15 Setzer/Cats songs. How many can you find?

  • I had the pleasure of seeing the stray cats at the Sydney Australia Horden pavillion way back in 1981.What a show they put on.Slim Jim was excellent and Brian was one of the the best front man around.Imagine thirty years have passed. My uncle Dennis had hair like Brian and was the black sheep of the family. We were warned to keep away from him.He smoked stole cars and got a girl into trouble! In a small country town he was a real stray cat!

  • 同時から、めちゃくちゃかっこ良かったけど、30年前でも全然新しい!

    中学生やったけ

  • @haizin57 talk the one n only truly universal language known throughout the entire galaxy as ENGLISH

  • @MrDemdom Practise what you preach. That's barely English.

  • Great music..makes todays stuff look sad.

  • I never realised i was so old this bought back memories

  • All the people commenting 'Dude, look at his hair!' Haven't you ever seen rockabilly hair before? Have you been living in a cave? Also, anyone who says the Stray Cats were shit obviously has no appreciation for good music, I don't care if it's not your thing, but that doesn't make them bad. They're still incredible no matter what your musical preference is. Even though to a metal fan they were 'simplistic and boring.' they were clearly truer to real rock and roll than any metal will ever be.

  • @SidVicious270 wow thats just what i thought! stray cats are awesome!

    cheerio!

  • @SidVicious270 there are a lot of metal fans out there who like the stray cats (: most of my friends that listen to metal love the stray cats, eddie cochran and chuck berry.

  • @arnocardon yeah I take back what I said about metal fans now that I've met some really lovely metal-heads with impeccable taste.

  • Comment removed

  • @SidVicious270 I love metal & I love Stray Cats. You know what is boring? The nowadays night clubs' music is boring.

  • @emeschemess NO METAL IS BORINGER. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  • @SidVicious270 Totally agree, i even think if a 'metal' fan where to go to a concert of Setzer, they would be converted, seriously

  • @SidVicious270 boring to metal???? Ha! this isnt boring...oh no. this is asshole degenerate music. fact is i never met a nice person that listens to this shit except concertivist sarah palin would be fuckers. and child molesters. i really HATE rockabilly and i cant see how any of you people can get thrilled with this nonsence music. hey im not "trollin" as some of you idiots say. im just stateing facts. this music needs to be banned. period.

  • @benjamin80ify But why? I don't really understand your argument at all. I'm not really sure what the connection is between rockabilly and being a conservative Christian, and none of your arguments make sense. You say you don't like rockabilly because the people you have met that listen to it aren't "nice," yet you're a metal fan, which draws its influences from punk - one of the most violent (although I am a punk fan) "degenerate" (according to society) movements in music... what?

  • @benjamin80ify

You said "This music needs to be banned, period.".

In a way I'm wondering whether that's a compliment, as far as rock and roll goes in a funny kind of way.

Also, don't judge the music by the people you know that listen to it. If we did then no one would listen to this awful "R&B" (Nothing to do with proper R&B) music we get because everyone that listens to that is apparently an iliterate wannabe ganstah with severely lower than average intelligence.

  • @SidVicious270 have you seen brian's orcchestra ? now tell me this man wasn't taleneted

  • @SidVicious270 Don't get angry! Metalheads are with real rock music like Stray Cats. See you!

  • One of the 3 greatest appearances ever on TOTP.

  • Lovely Setzer.......

  • omg the kids dancing and the adults sitting behind that looks akward ... this music is not for 12 year old teen girls

  • カッケーよ!!大好き~~~

  • Hot Rods,bobbers and ROCK-A-F*CKIN'-BILLY music!

  • This tune is utterly fooking amazing!!! play that Rock-a-billy!!!

  • Let the haters hate while we have some booze, get girls and have good time.

  • 15 people stayed at home instead of Running Away.

  • Stray Cats are one of the most underrated ands ever... very, very nice human material.

  • stray cats - pussy cunts

  • @NaturalBornHedonist Have you heard Professional Musicians talk about Setzer ?

He is ranked up with Hendrix, Clapton, Knopfler and known as being a Master of Country / Rockabilly Riffs & Guitar Picking. The Guy is a World Class Musican.

  • @tribalheadz yeah dude. his cd "rockin by myself" of him live is pretty amazing.

  • @tribalheadz You and ds12sky have the measure on this. When JEFF BECK is in awe of his playing, you take notice. Brian has been namechecked by many greats, and he truly is a jaw-droppingly awesome player live. He's lively, inventive, subtle, then tears apart what you think you can do on a Gretsch.

  • @tribalheadz remember an interview with Ry Cooder who said Brian was one of his heroes

  • @tribalheadz Absolutely true. One the reasons the Stray Cats blew up is because lots of big musicians immediately took a liking to them (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin). If this band didn't break up when they did, they would've going platinum for another 20 years. People forget how HUGE they were at the time.

  • this is heaven...

  • the best stuff

  • Love this!!! Brian Setzer is sooo cute!!! This was produced by Dave Edmunds, as was "Rage to Love" by Kim Wilde in '85, 2 of my favourite tracks. Curse today's music!!

  • Great song, great look and the drummer plays standing up! What more do you need?

  • the singer looks like joe strummer

  • Forgot to mention in my previous comments:-

Of the two main 'rockabiliy revivial' acts, at the time in the UK, the Cats probably best carried the feel and energy of what they revived in their covers - whereas Matchbox (the other main act of a similar nature) probably best reflected rockabiliy turned 'pop', as pretty much reflects post-1960 'rock n roll'.

Dunno, that's my feeling anyway having grown up listening to a lot of early 'rock n roll' as a kid (parent's collection of).

  • brian setzer is the stray cats

  • Early Stray Cats. I imagine that this is when they had moved to England, (where anything is popular for one week), before breaking big in the US.

  • This isn't live. But I like this group..grew up with them.

  • qui aime est bon

    ou bonne

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • It's almost a shame that some folks refer to the Cat's as a cover band, rather than a revival band which would be more accurate - blending the heart of real 'rock n roll' aka rockabilly with the combined energy of the source with the thump of punk done with precision - anyone familiar with the original songs respects the heart and soul was captured nicely and rendered in the 'Cats' own interpretation .. aka brilliantly.

Like those they took inspiration from, the 'Cats' will live on in spirit :)

  • I'm only 15 and I'm unemployed

  • SOME OF THE BEST HUMAN ARTWORK

  • pyschos man, thats how i remember them unless they were a really bunch of daft cunts. lol. never get a job with that nailed on hair. lol have fun man.

  • werent they the tom cats in the 80s?? The Daisy... Amityville

  • @MsReddox

For a very very brief period...In the very very beginning..

  • Rockabillies true king is Brian Setzer!!!

  • Remember seeing this very performance on TOTP as a thirteen year old and thinking, "Wow! Rebels! That's what I want to be!"

  • oouuujeeee!!!!

  • Us brits no whens there good talent hay U.S.A

  • Great song, but it was obviously lip-synced for the show. It sounds EXACTLY like the album.

  • @lancezilla You do realise that every single song on TOTP is synced right? I hope you realise that, if not, you're a bit of a twat.

  • haha lthe living end = almost exact copy of the stray cats

  • @calvery28 No, no sir, not at all.

  • haha living end = almost exact copy pof the stray cats

  • Stray Cats and The Meteors...

  • Wow! Look at the size of that guy's guitar!

  • @lilynick1 cos' he wwas only small and skinny...a Gretsch is actually notthatbig. You should see SETZER with a WHITE FALCON...well you can't

  • @PoireauMan68 Ah sorry, I was being smart. I meant the cello!

  • @lilynick1

Its just a Gretsch 6120, but Setzer wasnt the biggest boy in class...

  • When the Stray Cats hit they were totally unique. And I ate them up like candy. They were tight tight tight and Brian Setzer's guitar playing was always inspired. Great band. Very cool to check in with this song again.

  • This was one of the 3 greatest things I ever saw on TOTP......it was like you had been asleep and were suddenly awake.

  • The comment that upset everybody has ben removed but I guess it went something like "these guys are shit because they don't sound like Metallica/Megadeth etc (add/delete as appropriate).Anyone who says this is easy is a tosser and has no appreciation of tone, rhythm or timing.

  • @verlaine4 that kinda comment irks the pisss outa me. I was playin metal b4 metal was cool. Even playin it in punk bars where the fans ate it up.

pegging urself so tight in one genre is like the bumper sticker that reads a mind is liek a parachute. it only works when it's open

  • worst lip synch ever... but great song :P

  • always reminds me 'cry baby' with johnny depp

  • Brian Setzer and Cats are the BEST - and he hasn't lost a step yet!

  • Comment removed

  • @Grezy55 ur an idiot

  • Love and miss these guys - the shows they put on....ROCKED!

  • "Some" British tv show?! It's TOTP!

  • One of the bands that made the 80's bearable

  • great video

  • You want to know how full of shit the Rock and Roll hall of fame is, consider this:....... Madonna, a chick who plays watered down lip synching karaoke disco is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame while these guys, The Stray Cats are not, EVEN THOUGH they started their careers at exactly the same time!

  • its passed the test of time this track, the bass is simply awesome, its a great tune and i dont like rockabilly music, im more hip hop and trance, but i'll make an exception for this cuz its the best rock and roll song that ive heard....

  • AWESOME

  • Stray Cats were absolutely brilliant! One of the best bands of the early '80's. I love the video as well where they are wearing leather biker jackets. The song was produced by Dave Edmunds, who also produced Kim Wilde's "Rage To Love" in '85. Just an interesting point.

  • @Feisty1967 pffuewndhdk...I just hope Setzer don't turn to gardening close to retirement...in fact, I hope he never retires...the WYLDE dysnasty had given up on Rock'n'roll and KIM put a hint of disco and rubbish in her artistic cocktail ! Edmunds was just a hip producer..."the race is on" with TSCats is actually quite wishy washy...

  • It was the very crappy top of the pops, brought to life in this case!

  • great record ,,great band ...but the people dancing look like a bunch of turkeys

  • @redrock1965 monkeys rather...who said the Englishnu had...STYLE...maybe this was a different crop to the one I was used to...

  • I remember watching this on TOTP, I was so into the Stray Cats...I still am...one awesome band

  • lekkkkkkker

  • MINT!!!

  • @kevtheMOD1

I don't know how old you are, but if you had been young in the Stray Cats days, then you would have worn your hair like that too! Fashion, fashion, fashion wins!

  • i dont like his hair ! 1 star . ;P

  • @SnakeNickkkk i love his hair

  • @issyvanity in kidding :P

  • you have a bad taste in hairstyles then

  • Hawkthunder- translation please?

  • imma fan..damn I was only eight hehe

  • for all you melons talking about fashion and the look of the crowd, this was 30 fucking yrs ago.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, I've just found this vinyl in a cupboard in its original sleeve. The artists have exotic tattoos on their arms and the tattoists get a mention on the sleeve. The B side is My One Desire. All I need now is a record player!

  • lip synch?

  • thats where jedward got their hairstyles from lol!

  • wow. look at all the slags

  • ça me rappelle ma jeunesse que je n'ai pas eu!!!!! à méditer!

  • This is sacret footage tome, seeing that episode on TV when I was a kid made me want to pick up a guitar and start to play.

  • @WouterJ One of the best 3 pefs ever on TOTP.

  • timeless tune, unlike most of the crap at the time.

  • Wat is en blijft dit toch heerlijke muziek,Mijn zoontje van acht vind dit ook geweldig.

  • ik ben 15 en vind het ook geweldig:D

  • they got Buddy Hollies bass

  • Love his haircut LOL

  • i vote for double basses at the next chinse erection

  • thanks for bunklefee for the details on Top of The Pops.yes,it happens many that the bands do not plays and sings at the TV lives.I love Stray Cats, too.they're amazing,so talented and cool.

  • The people dancing make me laugh!

  • That network couldn't of found some Rockabillies or Teds to be near the stage and dance ?!?!?!?

  • The audiences in top of the pops used to be hired and had to do a specific dance move in a specific position. Also All the bands never really played but mimed (hence there's no guitar cables!) This changed though and the audience became normal later on. Though the music was never live. The only band I know to actually perform live on there is Hayseed Dixie, because they told me when i saw them live.

  • these were my dads fave band before he sadly passed away :'( anyone agree that the stray cats are an utterly sexy band!

  • @AUFPET123 One of the best 3 TOTP perfs ever. Also check out "Wunderbar" by Tenpole Tudoe
