I don't think gay OR straight marriage should be legal - "love is all you need". If you love someone with all your heart then why on earth would you want to sign what is essentially a legally binding contract?

I think it has become a fad and they are trying to influence people via the media. It may be a civil rights issue but it's a civil rights issue that effects the civil rights of another minority. In massachuessetts where gay marriage is legal. Two christian families had problems with the school not recognizing their wishes that a backpack full of book about equality, that included books about same sex families not be sent home with them.

So now in massachuessetts they want their schools to practice seperation of church and state in order to respect people of differing religious beliefs but when it comes to differeing religious beliefs on sexuality they turn a blind eye.
@charlamain2209 Further more if Gay marriage were to become legal on a national level then they would be pressuring the government to take some sort of action on churches that still preach against homosexuality. I can't remember where in America but in a state where they allow civil unions a methodist church lost tax exempt status because they would not rent out a gazebo that they owned in a park to a same sex couple. The church felt that they would be condoning something they don't believe in.

I believe that there is absolutely no proof that this child is in any danger of being 'made gay'. What is wrong with that anyway? My children are for the most part grown and have their sexual identify, but I can remember telling them that it was none of my business who they loved. Gay is NOT the new Black. A Black person in the 1950's, 60's, and before could've been robbed, assaulted, raped or murdered & nothing would've been done. I don't think gay OR straight marriage should be legal - "love is all you need". If you love someone with all your heart then why on earth would you want to sign what is essentially a legally binding contract?
When love dies, it is a terrible thing but it's made even more so when you bring the government, religion or even worse, divorce lawyers into the mix because soon that dying love will turn to resentment and hate. That's not good for anyone, gay or straight.

I think it has become a fad and they are trying to influence people via the media. It may be a civil rights issue but it's a civil rights issue that effects the civil rights of another minority. In massachuessetts where gay marriage is legal. Two christian families had problems with the school not recognizing their wishes that a backpack full of book about equality, that included books about same sex families not be sent home with them.

I can't remember where in America but in a state where they allow civil unions a methodist church lost tax exempt status because they would not rent out a gazebo that they owned in a park to a same sex couple. The church felt that they would be condoning something they don't believe in.

For example, It's like people smoking Pot. Smoking is harmful in all kinds of stuff. If people want to harm themselves, it is their decision. I believe that there is absolutely no proof that this child is in any danger of being 'made gay'. What is wrong with that anyway? My children are for the most part grown and have their sexual identify, but I can remember telling them that it was none of my business who they loved. As long as they were capable of loving someone, I had done my job as a parent. Everyone needs to stop being judgemental. I have no place telling someone how to love, who to love, or how to live.

I am gay and I go to church and my partner wears a cross around her neck it does not make her a liar and deciever. People can be gay and still chose to go to church and believe jesus christ was their savior. Even if it isn't obeying the bible. She's not going around telling people she does so I do not see how she is lying to people or decieving them.

As for Maine - basic civil rights should not have to be voted on. Gay is NOT the new Black. A Black person in the 1950's, 60's, and before could've been robbed, assaulted, raped or murdered & nothing would've been done. Blacks didn't have the right to vote, or sit on juries. This doesn't apply at all to gays today. & Marriage is NOT a right. It is a privilege as consent is required and there are restrictions: not more than 1 person, siblings, immediate relatives or parents.

My uncle's friend also in the 80s was ripped from his navel to his face, also just for being gay. Marriage is a priveldge, but only for those who have found someONE unrelated to share it with.
